2. Have students share their understanding about the title of this article.
How do you understand the title “The Internet: a world without frontiers”
after you read the article
In my opinion, this title can be understood from the following three aspects.
Firstly, “The Internet has the power to connect people across the world to
a single shared community.” On the Internet, there is no boundary between
countries, and there is no boundary between countryside villages and modern
cities. People in different parts of the world can have access to the Internet.
Secondly, the life-changing advantages brought about to us by the Internet 批 注
are without frontiers—we can enjoy its benefits together.
Thirdly, the Internet is truly a world without frontiers only if we use it
properly and responsibly to make it a place of discovery, wonder and inspiration
for everyone.
3. Have students finish B3 on page 33.
(1) Have students find sentences showing a “before-and-after” comparison in
the article.
Gone are the days of searching shop after shop for the perfect pair of
boots—you can compare styles and prices quickly and easily in the comfort of
your living room. Why wait hopelessly for a taxi in the cold rain It is now
simple and fast to order one with a taxi app. Sit back and relax indoors for
a few warm minutes until the driver arrives.
(2)Have students write a paragraph to compare the life before and after
smartphones were invented.
Early mobile phones were not as functional as they are now and were used for
basic communication needs: telephoning and messaging. Mobile Internet was
not available then, so people depended on their computers or laptops to surf
the Internet. Since the invention of the smartphone, mobile access to the
Internet has helped users with more than just basic needs. They could now do
most daily tasks on a device that fits into their pockets, for example, instant
video calls, online shopping, watching videos, reading the latest news reports,
and searching for information anywhere and at any time.
