1. I’m sitting by the pool … 我坐在水池旁边 ……
1) sit 动词，意为“坐”，是不及物动词。
表达“坐在某地”就用介词短语来表达地点。
e.g. Please sit on the chair and have some tea.
请坐在椅子上喝杯茶。
2) by 意为“在……旁边”，它所表示的位置比near 更近一些。
e.g. All the children are sitting by the table.
所有的孩子们都坐在桌子旁边。
Language points
2. studying hard 努力学习
hard 是副词；意为“努力地”，修饰 动词。
e.g. Mary is a good student. She works hard at school.
玛丽是名好学生，她在学校里努力 学习。
拓展：hard可做形容词表示“困难的”,相当于difficult,可以修饰名词或做表语，或做宾语补足语。
e.g. hard work艰难的工作。②The work is very hard.这工作太艰难了。
hard可做形容词表示“硬的；坚硬的”
The ice is as hard as rock. 冰像石头一样硬
3. … but my phone isn’t working………但我的电话坏了 …
work 在这里是不及物动词，意为“（机 器）运转；活动”
e.g. My watch doesn’t work. What time is it now

拓展：work 的其他含义：
