Save Endangered Animals
Nowadays, with the development of society, the number of wild animals is decreasing at an alarming rate, some of which are in danger of dying out.
There are many reasons for this. Firstly, some people are still hunting wild animals to make profits. In addition, the habitats of wild animals are being destroyed by human beings. Finally, environmental pollution also leads to the extinction of wild animals. As for protecting wild animals, what we can do is to make laws to stop hunting them and destroying their habitats. What’s more, measures should be taken to stop pollution.
All in all, it is high time that we devoted ourselves to protecting wild animals. To protect wild animals is to protect ourselves.

M: We have a school where the students have small classes, five or six students with a teacher in a class.
Each child is well cared for.
W: Where do you get medical care
M: There are no medical services on the island. We take care of ourselves and each other to the best of our abilities, and head to the mainland for medical attention. Visitors are expected to keep themselves healthy and bring with them enough medicine during their stay on the island.
Text 10
M: Hello everybody. My name is David Anderson. I’m glad to be invited by the International Student Centre to give you a talk on how to protect yourselves and avoid losses, both on and off campus. First, if you, especially the girls, are in a café or restaurant, make sure that your bag is where you can keep an eye on it. If you want to leave for a while, don’t ask a stranger to take care of it. Just take it with you. Second, if you drive, park in a public car park, or at least in a well-lighted area if it’s at night. Avoid the quiet dark roads, and don’t leave your passport, laptop, or cash in the car. Third, if you have to walk
home alone late at night, stick to well-lighted areas. If you really think someone is going to hurt you, goto the nearest house and ask for help. If a car stops to ask for information, just keep well clear of the door.
At last, I just want to say that in this country, it is not allowed to carry a knife, or anything that can be used as a weapon, even if it’s for self-defense. Actually, this isn’t a dangerous town if you’re careful enough.志远高中2023-2024学年度下学期高一月考

It was a very cold day and the wind was blowing. But Li Yungang didn't feel it. He even felt hot. After all, this 14-year-old student from Beijing Jingshan School was cutting grass for three hours.
This was the first time this city boy had done any farm work. "It was not that easy. My legs and arms were sore," he said.
From now on,more Beijing middle school students will have a similar experience. 5,500 students from 13 city middle schools will take part in a one-week farm work program in the autumn and spring.
About 250 students from Beijing Jingshan School took part in it from Oct. 25 to 30. They dug peanuts(花生), cut grass, swept fallen leaves and did other farm work.
Lin Ruohan, 13, thought the work was hard, but she was very enjoyable. "When we dig peanuts out, we must be quick to pick them up. If not, they may be covered in the ground again. We must be patient and work as a team," she said.
But when she tasted the fresh peanuts, she felt happy. "I had never eaten such sweet peanuts before," she said.
Some of her classmates also learned what kind of fruits and peanuts grow in the ground. "We learned a lot about farming by seeding(播种)them rather than just reading about them in textbooks," she said.
The farm not only gave them knowledge but also gave them a new view.

We know that smartphone addiction (智能手机成瘾)is real, and that it can affect lives in negative ways. While some people have tried going cold turkey (快速戒掉坏习惯)or even punishing themselves for using their mobile phones, an app is made available in the UK that rewards people for staying away from their devices.
The app, called Hold, was created by Norwegians Maths Mathisen, Florian Winder, and Vinoth Vinaya while they are studying at Copenhagen's Business school to help break fellow students' attachments to their devices.
The three college students found that positive reinforcement (强化)was the best way of beating smartphone addiction. Hold allows students to collect points for staying off their devices between the hours of 7 am and 11 pm; they get 10 points for every 20 minutes.
Through partnerships with universities and businesses, points can be used for discounts on everything from cinema tickets to Amazon goods to cafe food and drink. A half price cinema ticket, for example, costs 60 points, or 2 hours away from a phone. And a 5 ( $6. 88 ) Amazon voucher (代金券)needs 1 ,000 points, or 33 hours off your smartphone.
Students can also use their points to buy school books and stationery (文具),which are then donated to schools partnered with children's charity Unicef.
Over 120,000 people use the app in Scandinavia, including 40 percent of higher education students in Norway, where Hold first came onto market in February 2016. It's now available to students from over 170 universities in the UK.
A 2017 University of Texas study claimed that merely placing a smartphone in someone's line of sight slowed down their productivity, response time, and reduced their grades. An earlier study from the London School of Economics found students who didn't use smartphones on school grounds saw their test scores increase 6. 4 percent.
32. The app Hold was created mainly to .
A. promote online sales of goods. B. earn discounts on goods or services .
C. find new uses of mobile phone. D. help students put down their smartphones.
33. How long should a student stay off the mobile phone to get 300 points
A. 6 hours. B. 10 hours. C. 15 hours. D. 30 hours.
34. What is the main purpose of the text
A. To tell the story of Hold creation B. To present people's opinions of Hold
C. To give a brief introduction of Hold D. To attract potential customers to Hold
35. Where is the text most likely to appear
A. A newspaper advertisement B. A computer textbook
