书面表达 第一节
Dear students,
Good health is essential to everyone, without which one can hardly live a satisfactory life. As
students, when longing to learn better, we shall in the meanwhile act actively for good health.
Here are some of my suggestions. First, we’d better do more exercise such as playing
basketball, running or swimming to build up our body. Second, we should have a balanced diet.
Don’t eat too much meat or sugar but more vegetables and fruit. Third, we need enough sleep and
rest, and we shouldn’t stay up late because it is bad for our health. Besides, keeping ourselves
happy is also very important. I hope we are healthy and enjoy our life.
Sincerely yours,
Li Hua
书面表达 第二节
It looked like Grandpa was crying in the photo. Crying! Yes, the secret was about crying!
Grandpa once said with wet eyes that the potato salad definitely brought tears to his eyes. It
seemed that Alexis found out the final secret ingredient. Full of hope in her eyes, she quickly
rushed to the cabinet and grabbed an onion. Then, delighted and expected, she cut the onion with
tears in her eyes. Finally, adding the onions into the salad and mixed it, Alexis’s palms getting
sweaty. Heart raising, she held the salad to her family and waited for their try.
With hesitation, the family tasted the potato salad with onions in it. Nodding their heads at
the same time, smile flickered across everyone’s face. They eventually figured out Grandpa’s
recipe. Finally, Alexis completed the salad and took part in the contest. As the result that Alexis’s
potato salad won was announced, Alexis was thinking about Grandpa, her tears welling up
uncontrollably. She hugged the Golden Potato to her chest and wore a shining smile, saying “Just
because of the onions.” It’s not only a recipe for delicious food but also a recipe for a happy
family.

NANJING-China’s first solar satellite, ASO-S, is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2022,
marking the country’s first-ever mission to observe the sun.
The satellite will operate in an orbit above Earth to maintain a view of the sun 24 hours a day. It is
expected to be in orbit for at least 4 years, according to Gan Weiqun, a researcher from the project.
The sun is the only fixed star that can be studied in detail by humans. The vast majority of its
radiation is blocked by Earth’s atmosphere. Only by sending satellites into space can a complete
picture of the sun be presented for further studies.
The satellite will also realize its potential in space weather forecasting. Sun activities can be
detected at least 40 hours ahead of their arrival by the satellite. This can help with early warnings
of damage to Earth’s environment.
Since the 1960s, more than 70 satellites related to solar observation have been launched globally.
The ASO-S is expected to fill China’s gap in the field, according to Gan.

Situated in the east of Shaanxi Province, 120 kilometers away from Xi’an, Mount Hua is the highest of China’s five great mountains. And it’s well-known as the most dangerous mountain in China. Having made reservations at a simple hotel on the West Peak ahead of time, my brother and I determined to spend a night in the mountain last week.
We went through the east entrance. Our plan was to climb, on foot and with hands, up to the West Peak, then take the cable car (缆车) down the next day.
We started the climb in the early afternoon. The path consists of many stone steps with rough chain link handrails ( 扶 手 ) in the narrowest and steepest areas. Physically, it is more like climbing the narrow steps of a skyscraper than trails. The most dangerous 100-metre-long path is called “Plank Road in the Sky”. We had never seen that steep cliff. Most climbers were frightened to tremble. Holding the chains tightly, we didn’t dare to look
downward, and had a very difficult time in inching that distance carefully.
Tired but excited, we reached the West Peak before 6 p.m. and rested at the hotel. After dinner, we spent some time talking with our guides, and picked up some interesting local stories. That night we watched the sky become spectacular with thousands of stars. This was the clearest sky that we had seen in our lives. The fresh air at Mount Hua was a treat!
Next my brother and I made sleep a priority. We did happen to wake up a bit before sunrise. At about 5, an incredibly splendid rising sun unfolded before our eyes. That scene, as well as the terrifying climbing, did leave an everlasting impression on us.
Where did the writer sleep that night
A. At a luxury hotel in Xi’an. B. In a small tent under the stars.
C. At a hotel on the West Peak. D. On the mountainside Mount Hua.
What does the underlined word “inching” in paragraph three probably mean
A. Moving slowly. B. Lying quietly. C. Shaking violently. D. Walking swiftly.
What’s the main idea of paragraph 4
They watched the sky and observed stars.
They made friends with some local tourists.
They had a hard time climbing Mount Hua.
They enjoyed themselves having a good rest.
How did the author feel about their trip to Mount Hua
A. Different but relaxing. B. Depressing and tiring.
C. Difficult but impressive. D. Familiar and comfortable.
C
With no special equipment, no fences and no watering, two abandoned agricultural fields in the UK have been rewilded (重新野化), in large part due to the efforts of jays(松鸦), which actually “engineered” these new woodlands. Researchers now hope that rewilding projects can take a more natural and hands-off approach and that jays can shed some of their bad reputations.
The two fields, which researchers have called the New Wilderness and the Old Wilderness, had been abandoned in 1996 and 1961 respectively. The former was a bare field, while the latter was grassland—both lay next to ancient woodlands. Researchers had suspected that the fields would gradually return to wilderness, but it was impressive to see just how quickly this happened, and how much of it was owed to birds.
Using high-tech data, the researchers monitored the two sites. After just 24 years, the New Wilderness had grown into a young, healthy wood with 132 live trees per hectare(公顷), over half of which (57%) were oaks(橡树). Meanwhile, the Old Wilderness looked like a mature woodland after 39 years, with 390 trees per hectare.
“This native woodland restoration was approaching the structure (but not the species composition) of long-established woodlands within six decades,” the researchers explained in the study.
Part of this reforestation( 重新还林) was done by the wind, and researchers suspect that previous ground
disturbance may have assisted the woodland establishment—which is good news, as it would suggest that agricultural areas may be reforested faster than anticipated. However, animals—Eurasian jays, thrushes, wood mice, and squirrels—also played an important role in helping the forests take shape. This handful of species provided much of the natural regeneration needed for the forest to develop. Jays, in particular, seem to have done a lot of heavy lifting.
What does the underlined word “shed” in Paragraph 1 refer to
A. Be opposed to. B. Be contrary to. C. Get involved in. D. Get rid of.
Which aspect of the changes in the two fields impressed the researchers
A. The scale of the woodlands. B. The diversity of the fields.
C. The rate of the changes. D. The frequency of the wilderness.
What does the author want to tell us by providing some data in Paragragh 3
The woodland restoration was approaching the structure of long-established ones.
Much of the wilderness of the fields was owed to birds.
Previous ground disturbance aided the woodland establishment.
How quickly the fields returned to wilderness over time.
What does the last paragraph mainly talk about
The essential role of humans in the reforestation.
The factors that contribute to the reforestation.
The importance of woodland establishment.
The threats faced by a handful of wild animals.
D
“You’re so smart!” This encouraging response to children’s math performance is commonly heard. Recently, a new study, conducted by the University of Georgia, found that encouraging children with responses related to their personal characteristics or inborn abilities might weaken their math achievement over time.
Parents who make comments connecting their children’s performance with personal qualities like IQ are using what’s referred to as person responses. In contrast, parents who connect their children’s actions, such as efforts or strategy use, to their performance are using process responses.
For the study, researchers asked more than 500 parents to report on how they responded to their children’s math performance and their math beliefs and goals. Children were divided into two groups across a year to measure their math achievement.
The results show that parents who view math ability as changeable are more likely to give process responses focused on their children’s strategy use and efforts rather than their IQ or other personal qualities. In contrast, parents who believe math ability is unchangeable and that math failure can’t be constructive give more person responses. Parents with high expectations for their children give both responses. While responses focused on strategy and efforts are not related to any achievement results, children who receive more responses about their personal qualities — especially, related to failure — are more likely to avoid harder math problems, show higher levels of math anxiety, and score lower on math achievement tests.
Because person responses mean poor math change in children over time, researchers suggest parents limit this type of responses at home. Another recommendation for parents is to think about their own beliefs and goals for their kids and examine how these might lead them to respond in person or process ways. Simply telling parents to avoid talking about math ability may not be enough. Focusing less on how children perform and more on their strategy and enjoyment of math might be a more effective way to encourage children.
Which of the following is an example of process response
A. What works well for your study B. Running is in your DNA.
C. You are a lucky dog. D. Why are you such a math talent
What can be learned from the study results
Parents prefer to give more process responses.
Person responses can discourage children from learning math.
Process responses help with children’s math achievement.
Children are more likely to be affected by math anxiety.
What do researchers advise parents to do
A. Ignore children’s math problems. B. Protect their own beliefs.
C. Stress children’s performance. D. Limit person responses.
Which can be a suitable title for the text
The Strategy Children Use to Learn Math Helps.
Responses to improve Children’s Math Performance.

At 11:50, the bell rings. We students rush to the canteen at an amazing speed to enjoy our lunch. Have we ever stopped to see what happens after the meal 36 . Sadly, this is not a common sight. We will find, instead, a mountain of leftovers in the waste bins. 37 .
This irresponsible food waste deed can never be tolerated. It reflects poorly on our hygiene practice (食品良好卫生规范). 38 .
Let’s learn from a Michelin-star chef who says that he will always respect the fish he cooks. Why 39. He can fully understand the dangers which the fisherman constantly faces in order to supply the fish to him. Therefore, by not wasting any part of the fish, and by cooking excellently every time, the chef is appreciating the fisherman’s efforts.
40 . Just think of the poor and homeless who have not eaten for days due to a war or a natural disaster that may have wiped out homes and families. Think:“wouldn’t it be good if we shared our food instead of throwing away what we can’t finish ”.
Let’s respect our food and share the joy of living well through giving food to those in need.
Some unfinished food is taken away to the dormitory.
We can also pack food from home or buy canned food or biscuits to give to the needy.
The ideal picture would be this: the chef sees his hard work being rewarded when piles of empty.
Simply, he recognizes the sacrifices the fisherman makes.
Similarly, we should respect and appreciate our food more.
And some of these foods have not even touched the students’ lips.
It also shows that little thought has been put in preventing food wastage.

It was time for the annual Potato-Salad Contest in Russet Park. After trying for the third time, Alexis shook her head sadly. There was no way she would win the Golden Potato again because Grandpa wasn’t here this year.
Memories of how Grandpa taught her to make potato rose in her mind. She sighed and missed Grandpa so much.
Alexis cut the potatoes and mixed the boiled potatoes, some sauces and a little salt and peppers in a bowl. But it didn’t taste right. Alexis tried a bite of the salad mixture, wondering what was missing. Seeing her frown, Mom suggested, “What about something spicy Your Grandpa loved spicy things.”
“You’re right! Maybe he put a jalapeno pepper in it,” Alexis said, cutting up a bright green jalapeno and adding it to the bowl.
It was closer, but it still didn’t taste right. Alexis was drooping her head, disappointed. “Should we look in a cookbook ”
“Grandpa was never one to follow a recipe,” Dad entered the kitchen and said.
It was true. People loved Grandpa’s potato salad because it was one of a kind. Alexis remembered posing with Grandpa for a photo while they were making the salad.
Photo! That gave her an idea. Alexis hurried to the bookcase and found an old photo album. She immediately flipped it open, expecting to find clues in the photos there. Lots of photos showed Grandpa and Grandma cooking together. Dad laughed, “He and Grandma loved to tease each other but he always called her Honey.”
“Do you think he put honey in the potato salad ” Mum asked.
“It is worth a try,” said Alexis. She stirred some honey into the bowl.
But it still wasn’t quite right. Alexis’ heart sank, on the verge of giving up. Dad kept flipping the album. At the end of the album was the picture of Grandpa and Alexis making the salad together.
