Lesson8 The best and the worst
Joe Sanders has the most beautiful garden in our town. Nearly everybody enters for ‘The Nicest Garden Competition’ each year, but Joe wins every time. Bill Frith’s garden is larger than Joe’s. Bill works harder than Joe and grows more flowers and vegetables, but Joe’s garden is more interesting. He has made neat paths and has built a wooden bridge over a pool. I like gardens too, but I do not like hard work. Every year I enter for the garden competition too, and I always win a little prize for the worst garden in the town!

形容词、副词的比较级和最高级高级
<1> 基本概念 在英语中，表示两者之间“比较/更...”和三者或三者以上，以及某个范围内“最......”时，形容词或副词要用特别的形式，称为“比较级”和“最高级”，原来的形容词或副词称为“原级”。
<2> 比较级和最高级的构成
一般情况下，单音节/部分双音节词, 比较级＋er, 最高级＋est 。
small --- smaller --- smallest clever ---cleverer --- cleverest
以哑e结尾的词，比较级＋r，最高级＋st 即可。
nice --- nicer --- nicest large --- larger --- largest
辅元辅加重读闭音节，双写辅音字母,再比较级+ er，最高级+ est。
hot --- hotter --- hottest big --- bigger --- biggest
以辅音字母+ y结尾的双音节词，把 y 变为 i ,再比较级+ er ，最高级+ est。
easy --- easier --- easiest happy --- happier --- happiest
其他的双音节词和多音节词,比较级在词前加more，最高级在词前加most 。
important --- more important --- most important beautiful --- more beautiful --- most beautiful
有些形容词或副词的比较级和最高级构成是不规则的（好坏多少远）
ill/bad --- worse --- worst many/much --- more --- most
good/well --- better --- best far --- farther/further --- farthest/furthest
little --- less --- least old --- older/elder --- oldest/eldest
注意：older修饰人和物，作定语和表语；elder修饰人，作定语
<3> 原级比较的用法
A+... as + 形/副原级+ as + B... A 和 B一样......
Tom is as tall as his father. 汤姆和他爸爸一样高。
John did not come as early as you did. 约翰没有你来得早。
A + ...not as/so + 形/副原级+ as + B A 不像B那样......
This book is not as interesting as that one. 这本书没有那本那么有趣.
She’s not so mad about sports as I am. 她不像我对体育那么痴迷。
A + less + 形/副原级+ than + B A 不如 B那样......

<5> 最高级的用法
(形容词最高级前一般要加定冠词 the, 副词最高级前的the可以省略。)

one of + the 最高级+名词复数+ in /of /among ......是......中最......之一
