Scientists consider the Trojan asteroids to be the ancient remains of the formation of the solar system. They have stayed captured in Jupiter’s orbit for billions of years. The Trojans circle the sun in1wo groups. One group leads Jupiter in its orbital path, while the other follows behind it.(该航天器还将观测7颗特洛伊小行星。 根据文章第三段“The spacecraft was named Lucy after the ancient fossil discovered in Ethiopia in 1974.Lucy was one of the most famous scientific finds of the 20th century. The collection of skeletal bones gave scientists a better understanding of the evolution of humans. Cathy Olkin, the deputy lead investigator for the Lucy mission, compared the NASA spacecraft to the Lucy fossil. “Just like the Lucy fossil transformed our understanding of human evolution, the Lucy mission will transform our understanding of solar system evolution.” she said. 故选A。 根据文章第四段“Lucy will depend on solar power to operate.(Lucy将依靠太阳能来运行。)” 根据第一段内容“What do you get when you paint a pair of eyes on a cow’s rump (臀部) The answer is that you’ll get an approach to scaring predators (捕食者) away. This simple trick is called the “i-cow” solution. The eyes painted on cows’ rumps can trick certain predators, such as lions and leopards.”(当你在牛的臀部上画一双眼睛时,你会得到什么? 根据第二段关键句“Over a four-year period, researchers found that 15 out of the 835 unpainted cows were killed by predators, 4 of the 543 cows with “xs” died, but every single one of the 683 animals with eyes painted on their backsides were still alive.”(在四年的时间里,研究人员发现,835头未画任何东西的奶牛中有15头被捕食者杀死,543头画有“xs”的奶牛中有4头死亡,但683头臀部画有眼睛的动物中,每一头都还活着。) 根据倒数第二段关键句“Despite the positive results, Dr. Jordan says the method isn’t a sure solution. He says if farmers painted eyes on the backsides of all their cows, predators might eventually figure out that the eyes aren’t real.”(尽管取得了积极的结果,乔丹博士说,这种方法并不是一个确定的解决方案。 根据最后一段内容“In spite of this, he’s still hoping that the “i-cow” will become a widely used technique to at least reduce predator’s attacks. “I think the farmers are just happy with this,” Dr. Jordan says. “After all, all they need is a paint pot, paint brush and a little bit of artistic talent.””(尽管如此,他仍然希望“i-cow”将成为一种广泛使用的技术,至少可以减少捕食者的攻击。 36-40. After a while, the car stopped at a house, and I met the owner. He was a man with a not-gentle face. But soon, his face was lightened by a bright smile, and he revealed to me that all the money in the world could not replace the photo of his beloved daughter that he always carried in his wallet. His beloved daughter lived on the other side of the planet and they saw each other very rarely. After his story, he surprised me with an unexpected proposal. He wanted to reward me for my honesty and kind act. I was awkward with his offer of a financial reward, but I could not refuse it. So I accepted and was even more pleased when I heard he would offer me a job to work for him under much better conditions and salary than my current job. My heart was beating with a mixture of emotions—relief and gratitude. My answer came quickly. This day will forever remain in my memories as the one in which my moral values and correct decisions helped change my life for the better.2023---2024学年第二学期第一次月考高一英语试题第一部分听力(共两节,满分30分)第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分)听下面5段对话。 Sanya Coral Reef National Marine Nature ReserveBEvelyn Topper likely dropped her wallet when she and her granddaughter, Mikayla Gounard, were leaving a local coffee shop in San Rafael, California, but Topper didn’t realize it was missing until she got home. With her credit card, money, and medical card gone, she was understandably upset. The next day, however, Topper got a call that put her mind at rest. Sean Curry had found the wallet in a trashcan behind the coffee shop. Except for the cash, its contents were intact Even though he’d been homeless for five years, rather than take advantage of the opportunity, Curry reached out to Topper. While Topper praised his behavior and declared (宣称) it a mitzvah, a good deed that’s performed with a good heart simply because it’s the right thing to do, Curry didn’t believe he’d done anything out of the ordinary. He’d done it, he explained in an interview with NBC, because that was the way he was brought up.What Curry didn’t know, however, was that there was a surprise in store for him. Mikayla Gounard had already planned a socially distant “drive-by” party for her upcoming 12th birthday. Rather than presents, she decided to ask for contributions to be donated to charity in her name.Gounard hadn’t yet chosen which charity the money would go to, but after learning more about the man who’d so selflessly returned her grandmother’s wallet, the choice seemed obvious. It was Gounard’s turn to set her own mitzvah in motion. On the day of her party, the 12-year-old girl placed a photo of Curry and a collection basket next to balloons and party favors on an outdoor table in the driveway. By the end of her “Happy Birthday!” party, she had raised several hundred dollars. When Gounard and her mom met up with Curry the next day and gave him the money, he admitted that he was truly touched by the heartwarming gesture. Rather than merely pay lip service to a mitzvah, like Curry, Gounard chose to make another good deed happen — because she knew it was the right thing to do.24. What can we know about Sean Curry A. He witnessed the theft of Topper’s wallet.B. He discovered Topper’s non-cash property.C. He enjoyed wandering around coffee shops.D. He called Topper to comfort her for her loss.25. How did Curry react to Topper’s comment on his behavior A. By turning his attention to his lifestyle.B. By choosing to put it on social media.C. By approving of her idea about a mitzvah.D. By putting less value on what he had done.26. What does the underlined part “a surprise” in Paragraph 4 refer to A. An unexpected party.B A charity sale in Curry’s name.C. The spread of Curry’s good deed.D. A generous donation from Gounard.27. Which of the following can be the best title for the text A. Do Well and Have Well B. Be the Best — You Can Make ItC. More Self-control, Less Desire D. Be Nice — You Won’t Finish LastCSet to launch on October 16, the Lucy spacecraft is designed to study Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids (小行星). These asteroids are small bodies leftover from the formation of our solar system’s large planets. They share an orbit with Jupiter as the planet goes around the sun. The mission’s aim is to gather new information about the solar system’s formation 4.5 billion years ago.Lucy will observe eight asteroids over 12 years. One of the eight asteroids orbits in what is known as the Asteroid Belt , an area between Mars and Jupiter. Most known asteroids orbit within this area. The spacecraft will also observe seven Trojan asteroids. Scientists consider the Trojan asteroids to be the ancient remains of the formation of the solar system. They have stayed captured in Jupiter’s orbit for billions of years. The Trojans circle the sun in two groups. One group leads Jupiter in its orbital path, while the other follows behind it. Lucy will be the first spacecraft to visit these asteroids. The spacecraft was named Lucy after the ancient fossil discovered in Ethiopia in 1974. Lucy was one of the most famous scientific finds of the 20th century. The spacecraft is equipped with several imaging instruments designed to capture information about the composition of materials on the surface of asteroids. Other equipment will be used to record asteroid surface temperatures and measure the size of the objects the space-craft observes. Lucy will depend on solar power to operate. NASA says the mission expects to set a record because Lucy will travel farther from the sun than any past solar powered spacecraft.Lori Glaze is the director of NASA’s planetary science division. She said “Whatever Lucy finds will give us vital clues about the formation of our solar system.”28. What is the mission of the Lucy spacecraft A To explore the surface of Jupiter.B. To collect soil samples from Mars.C. To find out the origin of solar system.D. To search for life on Trojan asteroids.29. What can we learn about Trojan asteroids from paragraph 2 A. They all orbit in the Asteroid Belt.B. They were discovered 12 years ago.C. They share the same orbit with Jupiter.D. They are the oldest planets in solar system.30. What is paragraph 3 mainly about A. The inspiration for the name of Lucy.B. The significance of the Lucy fossil.C. The introduction to the Lucy mission.D. Cathy Olkin’s study on human evolution.31. What do we know about the Lucy spacecraft A. It has a large space inside.B. It is powered by sustainable energy.C. It moves faster with its lower weight.D. It gets closer to the sun than other spacecraft.DWhat do you get when you paint a pair of eyes on a cow’s rump (臀部) The answer is that you’ll get an approach to scaring predators (捕食者) away. This simple trick is called the “i-cow” solution. The eyes painted on cows’ rumps can trick certain predators, such as lions and leopards. An experiment by Australia and Botswana compared how predators reacted to herds (畜群) that had eye paintings on their rumps, ones that had “xs”, and some without any markings at all. Over a four-year period, researchers found that 15 out of the 835 unpainted cows were killed by predators, 4 of the 543 cows with “xs” died, but every single one of the 683 animals with eyes painted on their backsides were still alive.Neil Jordan, a biologist in Australia, first came up with the method. While watching a lion hunting a deer, he noticed something interesting. “Lions usually move slowly and quietly to their prey (猎物), get close and jump on them. But when the deer noticed the lion and the lion realized it had been seen, it gave up on the hunt,” he said. Later, he worked with a local farmer to test his idea over a period of 10 weeks, and like the most recent results, all of the cows with painted eyes survived.Despite the positive results, Dr. Jordan says the method isn’t a sure solution. He says if farmers painted eyes on the backsides of all their cows, predators might eventually figure out that the eyes aren’t real. Therefore, further research should be done to prove whether it is effective. In spite of this, he’s still hoping that the “i-cow” will become a widely used technique to at least reduce predator’s attacks. “I think the farmers are just happy with this,” Dr. Jordan says. “After all, all they need is a paint pot, paint brush and a little bit of artistic talent.”32. What is “i-cow” solution intended for A. Recognizing cows quickly.B. Leading predators to the farm.C. Protecting cows from being attacked.D. Informing cows to notice predators.33. What do we know about the experiment in paragraph 2 A. Most of the unpainted cows were killed.B. A small number of cows with “xs” survived.C. More than twenty painted animals were killed.D. All the animals with eyes painted survived.34. What might a cause of the “i-cow” solution’s failing to work A. The farmers are lack of basic painting skills.B. Predators get closer and closer to the cows.C. Every single cow is painted eyes on the rump.D. There is more than one predator around the area.35. Why does Dr. Jordan think that farmers will favor his method A. It has proved the most effective.B. It is easy and cheap to carry out.C. It follows their traditional practice.D. It is a widely recognized approach. High school can be an exciting yet challenging experience for many students. How would I manage the increasing bills, the groceries and my children’s needs The future seemed hopeless. With a heavy heart, I hurried to pick up my two children, my mind racing wildly. That’s when I saw it—a wallet, lying on the sidewalk. It was as if fate had thrown me a lifeline (救生索). Hope came to me as I approached it. The wallet was large, and when I opened it, my eyes widened in disbelief at the sight of a large amount of cash inside it. I hesitated for a moment, torn between the immediate relief that this money promised and the morality (道德) of keeping it.Curiosity led me to search through the wallet. The things it contained were a photo and a couple of business cards. No matter how much I wanted to take the contents, my moral principles and inner voice told me not to do this. The decision became clear; I couldn’t keep this money. It wasn’t rightfully mine.I picked out a business card. The name and number were there. With a deep breath, I dialed the number and explained my find to the voice on the other end. The voice came, completely emotionless, warning that they would come to me. He hung up without even saying “thank you”. I was angry with the impoliteness. I even regretted my decision, but my conscience (良知) did not allow me to go back on my choice. I had told the voice where I lived and went to get my children.Shortly after we arrived home, a large black car suddenly pulled up to our house. The driver got out and knocked on the door. When I opened it, the driver told me that the owner of the wallet wanted me to personally hand over his wallet. I didn’t want to do so, but I agreed to go with the driver at last.____________________________________________________________________________________He wanted to reward me for my honesty and kind act.
