On the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific, some villagers cut down trees in a special
way. If a tree is too large to be cut down with an ax, they try something else-- yelling(喊叫) at it. Woodsmen with special powers climb up a tree at dawn and yell at it at the top of their voices. They continue doing this for 30 days. After 30 days, the tree dies and falls over. It seems like the yelling kills the spirit of the tree. According to the villagers, it always works.
It’s too bad they don’t have the advantages of modern technology and a scientific mind.
No matter how true the story actually is, it reminds me of something. I often yell at my wife, the telephone and workers. And sometimes I even yell at the TV, the newspaper and my children. I have been known to shake my fist(拳头) and yell at the sky at times.
The man next door yells at his car a lot. And this summer I heard him yell at a ladder for most of an afternoon. We modern, educated people often yell at traffic, bills, banks and machines. Machines and relatives get yelled at the most.
It doesn’t do much good. Machines and things just sit there. Even kicking it doesn’t usually help. As for people, well, the Solomon Islanders may have a point. Yelling at living things does tend to(有做...的倾向) kill the spirit in them. Sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will break our hearts.
54. From Paragraph 3, we learn that the writer seems to be .
A. a nice husband B. a patient father C. a gentle boss D. a complainer

B. Solomon Islanders never use an ax to cut down trees.
C. Modern people are often in a bad mood(情绪).
D. The man next door lives a peaceful life.
56. What does the story want to tell us
A. Yelling hurts both sides. B. Yelling is bad for our health.
C. Every living thing has its own spirit. D. Solomon Islanders are very clever.
C
I spent a lot of time making a large shelf for my cave. I found a big tree and chopped it down . This took three days. Then, I chopped off the branches. This took another two days. After that, I chopped the wood away from one side, and then from the other side. This took more than one month . Altogether it took forty-two days. In England, two men with a good saw (锯子) could have made six of these shelves from that tree in half a day.
I also spent a lot of time looking after my corn and rice crops. I had to protect them from wild animals and birds, so I made a fence around them. I shot some of the birds and hung them up near the corn. After that, all the other birds stayed away. I used one of the old swords I had taken from the ship to cut down the corn when it was ready. I was very proud of my corn and rice and worked hard to increase my crops. A few years later, I would have enough corn to make bread. I had to find a way to grind(碾碎)the corn into flour, but the rocks on the island were not hard enough. I finally discovered that a very hard piece of wood would do. I used some cloth to separate the meal from the husks(外壳). Not having an oven, I made some square pots with lids and covered them with hot ashes. This baked the dough, and I had bread! I made my cave bigger again to hold the corn and flour so that I could make bread whenever I needed to.
I sometimes wondered how I could get to the land which was visible from the other side of the island. I went to the ship’s boat that was blown onto the beach in the shipwreck. However, I could not get it to the water. It was too heavy. I tried many different ways of doing it, but none of them were successful.
57. From Paragraph 1, we know that Robinson ________.

B. divided the cave into several different parts
C. put some old swords from the ship around them

a. He found a way to grind the corn into flour.
b. He baked the dough with square pots.

六、阅读表达(共5题;每题2分,计10分)
They exist in every school. Some use words, and others use physical violence(暴力). No matter what the methods are, the result is the same: bullies make you feel bad and make going to school a lot more difficult. What can you do about them Luckily, dealing with bullies is not as hard as you think. Just follow these simple steps, and there is a good chance you will survive the bullies at your school without getting hurt.
The first step to take when dealing with bullies is to understand them. Most bullies make others feel bad so they feel better about themselves. Their main goal is to make you upset so they feel in control. The best way to deal with this is to avoid them all together. Don't walk near them, change your seat in class, or if they come up to you, walk away. If you can ignore(对...不予理睬) a bully for a few days, you will probably be left alone.
When it is impossible to ignore the bully, you will have to take further steps. Bullies prefer to target kids who they think are weak and vulnerable. The next time you see a bully, pretend to feel very brave and confident. If the bully says something to you, say "Stop it! "in a strong voice and walk away. If you see a bully picking on someone else, do the same. Bullies normally do not like confrontation(对抗).
If they still pick on you, the next step is to report the bully to a teacher. Bullies have been around for a long time, so experienced teachers will know how to deal with them. The bully will get into trouble and the teacher will get ready to be on watch all the time.
Bullies can give you big trouble. However, if you act quickly, you can almost always prevent them from bothering(烦扰) you. Just remember to never get in a fight with a bully. Fighting will almost always make the situation worse. Be smart when dealing with bullies and you should survive without getting hurt!
阅读短文,回答下面5个问题。(每题答案不超过7个单词)
76. Is there a good chance to survive the bullies if you follow the simple steps
77. What is the main goal of the bullies
78. What is the next step if the bullies still pick on you
79. What will make the situation worse when dealing with bullies
80. What will you do if you meet with a bully (言之有理即可)
