教学过程
Pre-reading Step1: Raise two questions about the travelling experiences of the Ss. ① What tourist destinations have you ever visited ② If you had a chance to travel worldwide, which country would you like to visit most Students share their ideas with the whole class. Step 2: Ask Ss to do a quiz about the basic information on Canada to check how much they know about it, stimulating their interest in exploring Canada. While-reading Step 3: Ss read the text and complete the chart with the main idea of each paragraph. ① ②③④ ⑤ Step 4: Ss read for details and reveal the mysteries of the land. Read paragraph 2 and answer the questions. ① How is Canada diverse in its geography ② How does the author describe these landscapes What are they ③ How does the author makes them impressive to the readers Ss work in groups and figure out the rhetorical devices such as inversion, personification and descriptive adjectives help form a vivid picture in the readers’ minds. And the teacher leads the Ss to read these sentences aloud and appreciate the beauty they bring out. Read paragraph 3 and draw a timeline to reflect the diversity of its residents and then share and revise it in groups. Read paragraph 4 and mark the map of Canada with the locations of culturally iconic city in Canada, Vanouver, Montreal, Nova Scotia and find out what unique cultural experiences you can have. By answering these questions, Ss know that Canada can offer a fascinating glimpse into different cultures, such as Chinese culture, French culture and Celtic culture. Step 5: In this period, we have explored Canada--a land of diversity. Has Canada won your heart why Ss read through the text again and summarize the main idea in one sentence. Canada’s geographical wonders, ethnic groups and rich cultures make it a unique place to live and visit. Post-reading Step 6: Ss work in groups to help design a 4-day travel plan for your Chinese friends so that they can enjoy splendid scenery and diverse cultures in e up with the content that should be included in a travel plan. Draw a scenic route with the recommended content. Invite two groups to showcase their travel plans. Ss and T together reflect and summarize what has been learnt.
Homework ◎Search for information on geography, race and culture in China; ◎Exchange your collected information in Wechat; ◎Write an article to introduce China from three dimensions: geography, race and culture.
