HALIFAX, Nova Scotia—Officials in Canada’s Atlantic Coast province of Nova Scotia said Saturday a wildfire that forced thousands of people to leave their homes over the past week is now largely controlled because of rain.
David Steeves, a technician of forest resources, said the fire in the Halifax area is about 85% controlled, sits at 9.5 square kilometre and is unlikely to grow thanks to the firefighting efforts and long-awaited rain. The news was also good across the province, where Premier Tim Houston said the total number of active wildfires reduced from 10 in the morning to five by mid-afternoon. “If you step outside, you will see something beautiful: rain, and hopefully lots of it,” he told an afternoon briefing (简报).
The blaze that broke out Sunday in the Halifax area raced through a number of other places, burning up about 200 buildings—including 151 homes—and forcing the evacuation (疏散) of more than 16,000 people. Meanwhile, at the provincial wildfire centre in Shubenacadie, north of Halifax, about 20 Canadian Armed Forces soldiers stood in the pouring rain outside a light armored vehicle (装甲车). Lt. Col. Michael Blanchette said the soldiers had arrived on a “fact-finding task” to see what support was needed in the effort to fight the fires.
In Shelburne County, meanwhile, 6,700 people—about half the city’s population—remained out of their homes as the blaze that forced their evacuation continued to burn out of control.
Dave Rockwood, a spokesman for the Department of Natural Resources, said it remained to be seen that there would be no further growth and that firefighters could use more direct ways to control it. Two other fires which were considered out of control on Saturday morning were finally controled later in the day, he said.
24. What can we infer from the second paragraph
A. Rain helps firefighting a lot.
B. Something beautiful can be seen in the rain.
C. Nova Scotia’s fire was the largest recorded one in history.
D. The total number of active wildfires in Nova Scotia was 15.

Habit is a behaviour you do regularly (有规律地). As a professor who studies how to help students become better readers and writers, I can tell you that research shows habits have a loop (循环). Here are the things you need to make a studying loop:
●A set time to study every day.
●A cue (提示) to start studying.
●An environment that helps you stick to your studying routine (常规).
●A prize for studying.
When you do things at the same time every day, it is easier to remember to do them. To determine how much time you should set aside each day to study, multiply (乘) your grade level by 10 minutes. That means if you’re in third grade, you would plan to spend about 30 minutes per day studying. Spending more time than that on a regular basis can cause stress, anxiety and possibly destroy healthy sleep habits.
Studying at the same time every day is one cue, but you may need something more specific when first forming your habit. This can be a calendar reminder you set on your phone, or something as simple as a card with the word “study” printed on the front.
To help yourself study, you need a place set up for work and not for doing other things. Do not study on your bed—that’s for sleeping—or in front of the television, or anywhere it’s difficult to hold and use the materials you need. Best option: a table or desk with good lighting. Your study place should limit distractions (干扰). That includes other people’s conversations and all media: TV, video games, social media, texts or music.
The prize. That said, after you finish studying, you can give yourself a little gaming or social media time as your prize. With time, the studying itself will become its own prize. Improving your knowledge and skills will give you a sense of achievement and make you more confident and happier at school. But while forming your study habit, a really fun prize will help you stick with it.
28. What are the four parts of a habit loop
A. Hobby, cue, routine, prize.
B. Set time, cue, environment, prize.
C. Hobby, cue, environment, achievement.
D. Hobby, environment, routine, achievement.
29. How long should a fourth-grade student spend studying each day
A.10 minutes. B.20 minutes. C.30 minutes. D.40 minutes.
30. What can your study place keep according to the author
A. A comfortable bed. B. A desk with a TV.
C. A table with good lighting. D. A table with a music player.
31. What’s the best title for the text
A. What Is the Most Reasonable Way to Study
B. How Can You Make Studying a Daily Habit

The United Kingdom, Great Britain, Britain, England-many people are confused by what these different names mean. So what is the difference between them, if any getting to know a little bit about British history will help you solve this puzzle.
In the 16th century, the nearby country of Wales was joined to the Kingdom of England. Later, in the 18th century, the country Scotland was joined to create the Kingdom of Great Britain. In the 19th century, the Kingdom of Ireland was added to create the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Finally, in the 20th century, the southern part of Ireland broke away from the UK, which resulted in the full name we have today: “the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Most people just use the shortened name: “the United Kingdom” or “the UK”. People from the UK are called “British”, which means the UK is also often referred to as Britain or Great Britain.
The four countries that belong to the United Kingdom work together in some areas. They use the same flag, known as the Union Jack, as well as share the same currency and military defence. However, they also have some differences. For example, England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland all have different education systems and legal systems. They also have their own traditions, like their own national days and national dishes. And they even have their own football teams for competitions like the World Cup!
The United Kingdom has a long and interesting history to explore, which can help you derstand much more about the country and its traditions. Almost everywhere you go in the UK, you will be surrounded by evidence of four different groups of people who took over at different times throughout history. The first group, the Romans, came in the first century. Some of their great achievements included building towns and roads. Next, the Anglo-Saxons arrived in the fifth century. They introduced the beginnings of the English language, and changed the way people built houses. The Vikings came in the eighth century, left behind lots of new vocabulary, and also the names of many locations across the UK. The last group were the Normans. They conquered England after the well-known Battle of Hastings in the 11th century. They had castles built all around England, and made changes to the legal system. The Normans were French, so many French words slowly entered into the English language.
32. What can help us find out the difference between some different names of the UK
A. British languages. B. British history.
C. British location. D. British education.
33. Which country is the first to be joined to the Kingdom of England
A. Britain. B. Scotland. C. Wales. D. Ireland.
34. What is different for the four countries of the UK
A. The flag. B. The currency.

Dealing with Stress in Sports
Sports are a great way to have fun while staying fit. Sports also teach important life lessons like working as a team. 36 . Having a healthy attitude about sports and learning to deal with the stress that comes with competing can help you perform your best.
Competing always leads to some stress. And that can be good. 37 . But too much stress can take the fun out of a sport and make it hard to perform. If you think there might be too much stress around competing, talk to your parents and coach. Making some changes can help. If you have too much going on, think about limiting practice time or only doing one sport or activity per season.
38 . So it’s important to know how to deal with it. Trying different ways during practice helps you know what will work best for you during competition. You can try to take a deep breath and hold it in for about 5 seconds, then release (释放) it slowly. Repeat those five times. You can also think positively and develop positive self-talk, like saying “I learn from my mistakes.” “I’m in control of my feelings.” “I can make this goal!” to help keep the negative (消极的) thoughts away.
Keep stress levels down when you aren’t competing. 39 . Besides, doing something fun and relaxing is great, such as taking a break from competing and going for a walk, riding a bike, seeing a movie, or hanging out with friends.
Finally don’t forget that no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes in sports. It is part of the game. 40
Whether you play on the school team or at a weekend pick-up game, the point is to have fun. By keeping that as the first place, you can learn to deal with the stress that is a natural part of competition.
A. There will always be some stress in sports
B. A little stress helps the body face a challenge
C. Why not be quick to forgive mistakes and move on
D. If you have too much going on, think about doing more exercising
E. It is best to eat well and get enough sleep, especially before games

It is hard not to thirst for victory in all your efforts when the world seems so competitive, especially if you’re a boy growing up with those values. A boy grew up in a similar environment where winning was all that was valued, and he longed to succeed. The boy was good at running, so he called everyone in the nearby villages for a race. A large group of people from around came to see this exciting event!
The boy had been training hard for this race. He ran among the strongest boys from around the villages, and it looked like heat on a finish line, but the young boy came out victorious! The crowd went wild with joy as they cheerfully waved (挥舞) flags praising him. The boy loved the attention. It made him feel happy and vital (生气勃勃的).
But among the crowd was a wise older man who did not seem as impressed with the boy’s fleets (舰队) as the rest. Just as the boy thought all the races for the day were over, the old man shouted from the crowd, “There is one more race left, the most important one.” The boy was firstly surprised by the additional race, but he was confident he could win any race.
The old man brought two new competitors for the boy, a blind man and a weak old lady. “I can easily win them,” the boy said. When the boy crossed the finish line, the blind man was still at the start, and the old lady had just started to move. The boy got his victory but he noticed that the crowd wasn’t cheering. 第一节
One possible version:
My hometown, located in the beautiful countryside of China, is a place I hold dear to my heart. It is nestled in the mountains, with lush green hills and crystal-clear streams.
The town is famous for its ancient temples, some dating back hundreds of years. These temples are not only architecturally unique but are also a symbol of our rich cultural heritage. In addition, the local cuisine is a must-try, with its fresh and unique flavors.
From here, you can appreciate breathtaking views of the sunrise and sunset, as well as the starry night skies. It is a place that is truly magical and one that I am proud to call my home.
第二节
One possible version:
The boy raced again. But he helped and guided the blind man, supported the old lady and walked along with her this time. Finally, all three crossed the finish line together. The crowd cheered and clapped, which may have been louder than any earlier. The boy was confused, “All three of them finished the race together. Who is the crowd cheering for ” So, he asked the old man, “Who is the winner of this race Who is the crowd cheering for ”
The wise old man put his hands around the boy’s shoulders. He answered, “Boy, You have won much more in this race than any other race you have ever run, and in this race, the crowd is not cheering for any winners.” At the end of life, it is not whether to win the race but whom to run next to that matters. Life is not all about winning, it is about moving together and helping others who are less fortunate than us.

M: We have learned body language in today’s class. And our teacher showed us how people use this language to express their feelings.
W: Yeah, it’s quite useful. But I have an idea—body language can be used to help police. That’s based on proper training of body language.
M: That’s a good point. It should be widely used by police officers. It’ll help solve a case.
W: OK. I’ve made up my mind. I want to be a teacher in the future.
M: All right. I’ll at your back.
(Text 7)
M: Why are there so many cars parked on our street this evening I couldn’t get the car into our parking place.
W: There is a concert in the park. Many people have driven here.
M: That sort of thing shouldn’t be allowed. The last time there was a concert in the park, it was full of litter.
W: I agree. They have no respect for local people.

W: What You don’t have a passport

W: God bless you. I will make some travel plans next week.
M: Yes, we can also join a tour group.

W: Talking about delicious food, I would definitely recommend Luosifen to you. Luosifen is a dish known for its awful smell in the southern Chinese city of Liuzhou, Guangxi in the 1970s. Luosifen started as an inexpensive street snack. It was not until 2012 when a hit Chinese food programme, A Bite of China, featured it that it became famous. In 2014, China had the first company to sell packaged Luosifen. The popularity of the online eating show has made this Chinese local food more popular. Different from Luosifen, Shaxian is more like a cooking style. Different shops all have different menus, but they will have strong Fujian characteristics. Tens of thousands of Shaxian snack shops opened in the first few years. But soon the companies can’t promise food safety. Then the local government established the Shaxian Snack Bureau in 1997. This move has turned Shaxian snacks into an industrial chain around the country.
