Recently, a design student has developed an auto-mini robot—A'seedbot that can search through vast deserts, sowing seeds when it finds a suitable area to plant a tree.
The A'seedbot, created by Mazyar Etehadi from the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, could be a new and creative way to transform deserts into greenery. "Planting trees in the desert area can keep the sand and protect the environment," said Etehadi. It was launched at the Global Grad Show (CGS), an event that has designers come together to showcase innovations that could solve today's environmental issues.
In an area where high temperatures are limiting to life, the importance of growing plants is crucial. Measuring just eight inches long, the tiny robot is equipped with its own solar panels (太阳板), allowing it to charge during the day and continue working through the night. It can operate all on its own, using its 3D-printed legs to search for viable spots to plant a seed. In doing so, designers seek to understand how roots work and also to design sensors that might monitor soil pollution, prospect for minerals and look for water.
The robot has a distance sensor that it uses to send reports back to its controller. The only time humans need to step in is to refill the robot with more seeds. "I think it was an easy solution to come up with, but no one had made it, and here comes my idea! It means a lot to the people who have been fighting against the deserts for generations," said Etehadi. Going forward, he hopes his idea can be adopted by the government, the farming industry, and private individuals as a more efficient way to grow plants.
24. Why did Etehadi develop the A'seedbot
A. To lower the temperature.
B. To protect the trees.
C. To turn the desert into greenery.
D. To win the prize in the GGS.
25. What can we know about the A'seedbot
A. It can work around the clock.
B. It is powered by electricity.
C. It monitors minerals and water.
D. It can refill itself with seeds.
26. Which of the following can replace the underlined word "viable" in Paragraph 3
A. Distant. B. Empty. C. Dry. D. Suitable.
27. What is the passage mainly about
A. A project for creation.
B. A robot for sowing seeds.
C. A student gifted in design.
D. A proposal for environmental protection.

In 2014, Mahoney was asked to choose a person who regularly gave back to the Halifax community to perform an act of kindness as part of a Facebook challenge. Mahoney chose a 79-ycar-old senior named Eleanor, who not only gave goods to the people at the pub where Mahoney worked but also volunteered at the local homeless shelter.
Mahoney wanted to get to know Eleanor better, so she asked that they spend a day together—picking up fruits, getting their nails done, that kind of thing. "It was the first time in years that someone had made a day about her," says the 30-year-old. "That focus made her shine."
Their shared experience got Mahoney thinking. How many other seniors might benefit from that kind of attention And had some of those seniors delayed their dreams because they'd been busy caring for others Chisholm, now 31, was equally interested in these questions, and together the pair set up their new charity: We Are Young (WAY).
WAY has since delivered on 38 dreams—from a helicopter trip over a childhood blueberry-picking place to travelling to Toronto to watch a Blue Jays game. These dreams are to work out problems caused by the health and loneliness of seniors. 78-year-old Victor wanted to go to the beach—a dream he'd given up when it had become too physically difficult to reach the sea. The team at WAY offered a boat for him and his son in the fall of 2021 so they could reach the sea and spend the day enjoying themselves on the beach.
"If you lose the sense of purpose that having a passion (激情) can give you, your self-confidence goes down," says Mahoney. "Now, Victor has got some of his self-confidence again—and his sense of humour. We want to show that anything is possible with the support of others." "We want to create a movement that changes our whole society's opinion and support for seniors," says Mahoney. "That is the influence we're trying to create."
28. How did Eleanor feel after spending a day with Mahoney
A. She was panicked. B. She was in a good mood.
C. She was confused. D.She was tired.
29. Why did Mahoney and Chisholm set up WAY

Solving the mystery of the Loch Ness Monster would be considered as a good deed, right On that basis, a webcam (网络摄像机) has been set up overlooking the lake. Anyone can tune in at any time. If you see something suspicious, you simply click the "snapshot" (快拍) button to submit a picture for further analysis. It is free, easy, and you can do it for as little or as long as you like, with no login or sign-up required. What you are doing is micro-volunteering, which offers volunteers a series of easy tasks that can be done anytime, anywhere, on their own terms.
Micro-volunteering could involve anything from retweeting (转发) a message to joining a flash mob (快闪族). Volunteers don't need to go through an application or training process, or to make any ongoing commitment. The vast majority of micro-volunteering takes place online, but it doesn't have to. Weeding a garden in a local community centre counts just as much.
The key benefit of micro-volunteering is its flexibility. People frequently cite their lack of time as the biggest barrier to volunteering. For many, micro-volunteering removes the need to worry about making long-term commitments once they start volunteering. It enables people who might lose interest in traditional ways of volunteering to participate.
To some extent, micro-volunteering is an approach that aims to help lots of people come together to make a difference. It could take a while to see its impacts. Studies, however, have shown that 65 percent of those who have micro-volunteered are still actively doing so one year later. Even though micro-volunteering cannot replace long-term commitments, it serves as a complement (补充) to the more traditional methods of promoting good causes.
32. Why does the author mention the Loch Ness Monster in Paragraph 1
A. To illustrate a famous monster film.
B. To introduce a new way to volunteer.
C. To tell more information of the monster.
D. To offer readers a series of voluntary tasks.
33. What's the advantage of micro-volunteering
A. It's available only online.
B. Volunteers need to receive training.
C. It's flexible and time-wise.
D. It needs long-term commitments.
34. What can people expect of micro-volunteering in the future
A. It could take the place of traditional volunteering.
B. It might have a great influence on the world at once.
C. It can make people have more ongoing commitments.
D. It may provide more chances for people to make a difference.
35. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. Barriers to Promoting Good Causes
B.A Wonderful Complement to Volunteering
C. Reflections on Traditional Ways of Volunteering
D. An Answer to the Mystery of the Loch Ness Monster

In 1989, fresh from high school, I had the difficult task of choosing a career path before college started in three months. In those days in Pakistan, there were limited choices: becoming a doctor or an engineer, or entering the financial world after getting a business degree. I wasn't interested in engineering, so that I was left with medicine or business. I couldn't decide.
My uncle suggested that I do a work placement(实习工作) to experience it for a month in an international company followed by a month in a hospital. After that, I could make a decision. It seemed like a good idea.
I was accepted by a foreign bank in Karachi for a one-month placement. I got the feel of how the world of finance functioned, made new friends, and generally enjoyed the mostly easy-going work surroundings.
The month passed rapidly, and soon I began working at a leading hospital in Karachi. The experience couldn't have been more different. The hospital had a stressful environment. The days started early (at 7 am, compared to 9 am at the bank), and were filled with endless duties. And the night calls! This was crazy, working all day, through the night, and again the next day.
I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a more relaxing atmosphere, better working hours and less stress. The hospital was full of excitement, but the studying and training were difficult. It seemed that the business choice was going to win out.
Near the end of my month at the hospital, I was driving home after an especially busy night. In front of me was a public bus, with college students sitting on the top. As the driver weaved through(穿梭) traffic, I could see the boys shaking from side to side.

第二节
答案:a;amazing;was created;teens;to have discovered;personally;Measuring;covered;but;who/that
故填a。
故填was created。
故填to have discovered。
A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains是主谓关系,应用现在分词;此处位于句首,首字母应大写。
此处为固定搭配not only…but (also)…,意为“不但……而且……”。故填but。
故填who/that。

第二节
Paragraph 1:
Suddenly, a boy fell off the back of the bus. He hit the road with the facedown and rolled over. He lay still in the middle of the road as the bus sped away. None of the cars behind stopped. Thinking that he could die in a matter of minutes, I stopped my car and carefully examined the boy. With the help of some passers-by, I lifted the unconscious boy into the car and raced back to the hospital. Then his family was contacted, and he was wheeled into emergency surgery. I drove home, exhausted but happy.
Paragraph 2:
The next day, when I went to the hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces. What a feeling it was to help save the life of another person! I spent the rest of the day in a good mood. Driving home in the evening, I decided on my career path. Two months of placements could not do what 30 minutes' help with an accident victim had done for me. This experience taught me that at times, the decisions are made for you—and that whatever happens is always for the best.
