三、教学过程
Step 1 Warming up
Let students have a free talk.
T: What do you usually do on weekends
Ask students to share their answers.
T: I believe you hope to do these things on weekends.
Show some pictures and students read these activities together.
T: But actually(事实上), maybe you have some problems to solve now.
Show some pictures and students discuss these activities together.
Step 2 Lead in
Free talk :Let students have a free talk about after-school lessons.
T: Why do you take so many after-school classes
Ask the students to discuss it.
Let students share their answers in class.
Step 3 Group work
Work on 2a
Students check the after-school activities and share their answers in groups.
Step 4 While reading
Pre-reading
Look at the title:
What will you know about in the passage Let students guess the reason of this sentence: Why should students learn to relax
Students give their answers in class.
Fast reading
1.T: Now let’s work on 2b. First, let’s read the sentences and make sure we know the meanings of all the sentences.
2.Students look through each paragraph quickly. Match the main idea of each paragraph. Teacher gives the skill: Look through the passage without reading every word. Focus on the beginning and the ending.
3.Ask students to divide the passage into parts.
Careful Reading
1.Scan para. 1.and answer the questions.
1).What is the common problem for children
2).Why do parents push their children into learning more skills
2. Check the answers with the class.
3.Scan para. 2.and Judge if the sentences are True or False.
1). Cathy has three children and they all have to take after-school classes.
2). Cathy takes her daughter to piano lessons.
3). The children get home at 7:00pm every day.
4). Cathy’s kids can have a rest(休息) after dinner.
4.Ask some students to share their answers.
5.Read para3 and fill in the blanks.

1. Now look at the words in bold in the article. Please guess their meanings.
2. Tip:Guessing the Meaning
When reading something for the first time, do not worry about words you do not know. Use the context(语境) to guess the meaning of new words.
3.Let Ss discuss in groups.
4. Check the answers with the Ss.

1. Maybe I could cut out a few of their activities, 或许我可以减掉他们几个活动， cut out 删除；删去
2.People shouldn’t push their kids so hard.
人们不应该对自己的孩子逼得太紧。
动词push的基本意思是“推，推动”，但在本课文中push表示“使（某人）努力；鞭策；督促”其后宾语可以是别人或自己。
