He used his great influence to change the thinking of the scientific community on this issue. 5). Scientists have collected more data than expected to prove the theory. 5. Complete the passage about medical science using the words below. British scientists believe they may have found a way to fight the common cold. It blocks a key protein in the body cells that is to ______ for the spread of cold-causing virus. Targeting the host rather than ________was a bit non-traditional but made sense because it was tricky to target the virus. Cold-causing virus are not only of ________ kinds, they also __________ rapidly, meaning they can quickly develop resistance to medicine. Researchers are working on making a form of medicine that can be taken directly into one's lungs, to_________ the chance of side effects. Though these scientists have made __________ advances in their research, further ______ is needed to make sure such drugs are not so ______ that they harm the body. [Designing purpose] Three forms of exercises focus on preparing Ss’ vocabulary from phrases, sentences and passage levels. Ss’ are required to compare, analyze and choose the best word or phrases to fit in with a certain environment, during which their critical thinking are facilitated. Activity 2: Further thinking Q1: What have the British scientists found Q2: What are they trying to do Q3: Why are they doing that [Designing purpose] Reading after filling in blanks offers Ss a chance to reflect and check if the word or phrases is suitable to convey certain meanings. Activity 3: Assessing your vocabulary Complete the news using the words learned. Like all of us, science has had a rough few years, for which the coronavirus ___________(应该受到责备). But researchers in ______(许多的) fields kept up their life‘s work. Australian researchers claim they’ve grown brain cells in a lab that __________________(可能学会了) play the vintage video game Pong. The “micro-brains” they created can sense and respond to their environment. Dr. Brett Kagan ______________(赞同……的观点) it is able to take in information from an external source, process it, and then respond to it in real-time. In the experiment, researchers grew human brain cells from stem cells, mouse embryos into a micro-brain consisting of 800,000 cells and ______(连接) the micro-brain to Pong. Upon “viewing” the video game, the cells produced electrical activity, said the scientists, who gave the cells feedback. ______________(数据显示) the micro-brain learned to play the game in five minutes. It frequently missed the ball, but its connection rate was higher than random chance. [Designing purpose] Ss are expected to review the vocabulary and put it into correct use. Activity 4: Assignment 1. Gain more information about prefixes and suffixes through https:///govt-exams/prefixes-suffixes-examples-list/ 2. Complete the exercises on page 61 of the textbook; 3. Search more news on science online and share within your study group. [Designing purpose] It requires Ss’ further extensive reading, offering a stimulus for autonomous reading, mind exchanging and a stage for innovation.备注:教学设计应至少含教学目标、教学内容、教学过程等三个部分,如有其它内容,可自行补充增加。 展开更多...... 收起↑ 资源预览
