My first visit to Angkor Wat (吴哥窟) was in 1980. The country had been at war for many years and the temple was deserted and falling to pieces. Plants were growing out of the roofs and trees were growing in the yards.
Today, the temple is the scene of a busy repair program. A team of 15 Indian experts are organizing a workforce of 400 Cambodians, most of them women, who are cleaning, repairing and rebuilding parts of this temple.
As I walked through the yards, I noticed the Cambodian women devote hours to cleaning carefully a tiny area of stone. Boards are laid down to protect the precious painted stones while the repair work is going on. There are very few machines and little heavy equipment. Workers carry building materials in buckets at the end of long poles. Piles of stones lie in a corner of the yard, waiting to be replaced.
The work of cleaning the stones is watched over by three Indian chemists. It is a very slow task. First they clean the stones with brushes using buckets of a weak chemical. Then gaps between the stones are filled in. Finally another material is painted onto the stones which will protect them from water forever.
Work starts every day at 7 am and goes on until late afternoon six days a week, with a break at midday.
Evening is the best time to visit the temple, after the tour groups have left. As the sun sinks lower, shadows spread across the yard. After sunset, the sky turns pink. The grey stone towers take on a golden color before turning pink. Nowhere else in the world can there be such a quiet, beautiful place.
24. According to the author, which of the following plays the LEAST important role in the repair work
A. The women workers.
B. The Indian workers.
C. Machines.
D. Skilled workers.

B. the temple was built on a desert and nobody noticed it
C. the temple was very old with a long history

27. Which work needs a lot of time to do
A. To get rid of certain types of plants.
B. To carry the building materials.
C. To replace the stones.
D. To clean the stones.

How much do you love animals Maybe not as much as photographer Joel Sartore. He is traveling the world to take pictures of as many animals as he can find, which allows people to focus on the beauty and uniqueness of each animal.
Sartore is working to take photos of all 20,000 different types of animals living in the world’s zoos, aquariums (水族馆) and wildlife shelters. And he’s already taken nearly 15,000! He hopes his photos will raise awareness of these planet’s most endangered creatures, and that he can document them before they’re gone. “My job is to tell their stories and hope that the world cares in time,” he told The Weather Channel in 2022.
Sartore calls his project the Photo Ark, like the story of Noah’s Ark, in which a large boat is built to save every type of animal in the world from a flood. He founded the Photo Ark in 2006 in his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska.
He doesn’t just take his animal photos in the usual zoo environment, however — he puts each animal on a black or white background with studio lights. This helps him photograph their true colors, and lets people see a little mouse as clearly as a big elephant — and look each animal right in the eye. “When people connect to animals through eye contact, we’ve got a real chance at changing human behavior,” Sartore says.
The response has indeed been huge. Sartore has more than 1.6 million followers online and a best-selling series of Photo Ark books. He asks people to buy his books and photos, give money to the Photo Ark, and support zoos, aquariums and wildlife shelters near where they live.

A. To make a living in this way. B. To help save animals in danger.
C. To meet his own interest in animals. D. To offer another way to learn about animals.
30. What can we know about Sartore’s photos of the animals
A. Some are black and white. B. They are about animals in danger.
C. They were taken in the natural habitat. D. Some were taken in designed environment.
31. What is people’s attitude towards Sartore’s project
A. Unclear. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Disappointed.

Starting this December, multiple popular Chinese apps and websites such as WeChat, Taobao and Douyin will be redesigned to make them more senior-friendly.
These redesigns are aimed at solving challenges faced by the elderly in using new smart phones. Specifically, the measures include: launching senior-friendly products with easy-to-use interfaces(界面); and improving the accuracy(精确度)of dialect-recognition systems to allow the elderly who can’t speak Mandarin(普通话) to use voice commands. Also, on apps set to “senior mode,” there will be no mobile advertisement, or any design that leads people to extra payments; and people over 65 will be able to reach a customer services assistant over the phone without the need to follow difficult voice instructions or type text through keypad(小键盘).
Nowadays, people in China use their cellphones for everything: Ordering taxis, making payments, booking train tickets and ordering take away. However, among the 274 million senior cellphone users in China, nearly 140 million don’t have internet access or never enjoyed the benefits of a smartphone.
As smart technology becomes increasingly widespread, the elderly can sometimes run into problems. For example, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a “health code” is required to enter public places in China. However, this has made it difficult for many senior citizens to get around if they don’t know how to use a smartphone or the “health code.” Therefore, recently, the call for solving the difficulties that the elderly face when using smart technology has become stronger in China.
Making websites and apps more senior-friendly is a new campaign started by the Chinese government to make the elderly’s life easier. According to reports, 115 websites and 43 apps are planning to rollout barrier-free designs for the elderly this year. Many have described these new changes as truly heartwarming.
32. What’s the main idea of paragraph 2
A. The benefits of smartphones.
B. The advanced technologies of mobile apps.
C. The problems facing the elderly when using smart phones.
D. The newly-designed functions of smartphones for the elderly.
33. What can we infer from paragraph 3
A. People cannot make payment without a cellphone.
B. There are still a lot of people who don’t own a cellphone.
C. A large number of old people haven’t benefited from smartphones.
D. Almost all the senior people are afraid of using smartphone technologies.
34. What specific difficulty have the elderly faced in using smart technology, particularly during the COVID-19
A. They don’t have a smartphone.
B. They can’t apply for a “health code”.
C. They are not familiar with smartphone use.
D. They are not allowed to enter public places.
35. Which of the following could be the best title for this text
A. Senior-Friendly Changes of Apps
B. What You Can’t Miss about New Apps
C How the Elderly are Troubled by Technologies
D. The Appropriate Ways of Respecting the Elderly

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When my daughters reached the third and fourth grades, I sometimes allowed them to walk to and from school alone if the weather permitted. One warm spring day, a little dog followed them home after school. It had short legs and long lovely ears. It was the cutest dog I had ever seen and the girls begged me to keep it.
The dog was about twelve weeks old. It had no collar (项圈) or identifying marks of any sort. I didn’t know what to do. I thought about posting an advertisement but I really didn’t want to. It would break the kids’ hearts if someone should show up. Besides, its owners should have watched it more closely.
By the end of the week the dog was part of our family. It was very intelligent and good with the girls. The following week something told me to check the lost-and-found section in the local paper. One particular advertisement jumped out at me and my heart beat with fear for what I read. Someone was begging for the return of a lost dog in the neighborhood of our grade school. The owner sounded extremely eager. My hand shook, and I couldn’t bring myself to pick up the paper.
Instead, I pretended I hadn’t seen the advertisement. I quickly put paper away in the drawer and continued with my dusting. I never said a word about it to the kids or my husband.
By then we had named the dog. It was Kevin, so we called it Kevin. It followed the girls everywhere they went. When they went outside, it was one step behind them. When they did the housework, it was there to lend a hand.
There was only one problem with this seemingly perfect picture: my conscience (良心) was bothering me. I wondered in my heart whether I had to call that number in the paper and see if our Kevin was the dog they were desperately seeking. It was the most difficult thing for me to do.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

M: Sometimes I just can’t stop myself from arguing with them. It’s the generation gap, you know And it’s always there. But what can we do about it
W: I think our parents love us very much, and we should be grateful for what they’ve done for us. They just want to help us, you know Maybe we should try to be more open with them and share our problems with them.
M: Well, it’s not that I don’t want to communicate with them, but it’s just too hard to have a conversation with them.
W: I understand. In fact, there’s a lecture tonight at school about how to deal with the generation gap. Why don’t we go together

【原文】W: Good evening, and welcome to this week’s “Business World”, the program for and about business people. Tonight we have Mr. Steven Kane who has just taken over a bicycle shop. Tell us, Mr. Kane, what made you want to run your own store
M: Well, I’ve always loved racing bikes and fixing them. When I was working full-time as a salesman for a big company, I seldom had time to enjoy my hobby. I knew then that as soon as I had enough money to get my own business going, I’d do it. I had my heart set on it, and I didn’t let anything stand in my way. I knew I’d love being my own boss. Now my time is my own. I open the store when I want and leave when I want.
W: You mean you don’t keep regular hours
M: Well, the sign on my store says the hours are 10:00 to 6:00, but if business is slower than usual, I can just lock up and take off early.
W: Have you got any people to work with you yet
M: Yeah, a couple of friends of mine who love biking as much as I do. They help me out a few days a week. It’s great because…we play cards or just sit around and talk when there are no customers.
W: Thank you, Mr. Kane. We wish you success in your new business.

My first visit to Angkor Wat (吴哥窟) was in 1980. The country had been at war for many years and the temple was deserted and falling to pieces. Plants were growing out of the roofs, and trees were growing in the yards.
C. Machines.

C. the temple was very old with a long history
D. the temple was repaired by the Cambodians, most of whom were women
26. To clean the stone, how many steps should be followed
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.
27. Which work needs a lot of time to do

B. To carry the building materials.

A. The benefits of smartphones.
B. The advanced technologies of mobile apps.

A. People cannot make payment without a cellphone.
B. There are still a lot of people who don’t own a cellphone.

There was only one problem with this seemingly perfect picture: my conscience (良心) was bothering me I wondered in my heart whether I had to call that number in the paper and see if our Kevin was the dog they were desperately seeking. It was the most difficult thing for me to do.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

The woman said, “Where is my dog I would like to have a look at it.”
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
But I had to make a decision. With mixed feelings, I finally picked up my mobilephone. With butterflies in my stomach, I dialed the telephone number. Secretly, I prayed no one would answer, but someone did. The voice on the other end was that of a young woman. After describing the dog to her in detail, she immediately wanted to come over. I said that my daughters loved it very much and meanwhile apologized for not having contacted her a few days before. 30 minutes later, the bell rang and Kevin was barking. I opened the door, forcing myself to face the case.
The woman said, “Where is my dog I would like to have a look at it.” I asked the woman to come in and she quickly bent over and hugged Kevin tightly. Kevin started wagging its tail and barking excitedly as if it had recognized someone familiar. Surprised and excited, the woman told me that she couldn’t sleep well without it and thanked us for keeping her dog for these days. She offered to give me some cash as a reward, but I refused. After she took Kevin away, I cracked a smile. I knew I had done the right thing—that puppy should return to its original owner.
