A dog can be a person’s best friend, or so the theory goes. But that relationship can be tested when a dog begins barking at an empty comer of a room, at a door, or anywhere where there doesn’t appear to be any activity at all taking place. Is the dog hallucinating Is it communicating with ET Or does it simply want to drive its owner crazy
According to the American Kennel Club, the most common explanation for dogs’ barking without reasons is that it’s not really unprompted at all. Dogs are, obviously, equipped with superior hearing, including the ability to detect sounds that are higher in pitch. It is said a dog could be reacting to a noise that a person wouldn’t be able to hear. If a dog barks seemingly for no apparent reason at night, it might be because the noise nearby is lessened and some barking of other dogs become more clearly. Because dogs are territorial, one dog barking can turn into many others to guard themselves.
Dogs are also able to see better in the dark than humans thanks to their ability to get more light into their retinas(视网膜). If a dog is reacting to what looks to you like an empty backyard at night, it’s possible that something has caught their attention, be it a wild animal, a leaf, or a stranger.
That’s not to say that dogs only bark because of their cute senses. Some dogs might bark out of boredom in which case more exercise or pay time is probably needed. They might also be trying to get their owner’s attention.
The AKC recommends that owners avoid scolding their dogs for barking, since they’re simply trying to remain alert, instead, you can try calming the dog to let them know you’re aware of their concern. If they tend to bark while gazing out a window, you can also try to pull the curtains. If you suspect the source is an audio cue, some white noise, like a television or radio can help.
Less often, chronic barking might be a sign of cognitive issues. If barking is persistent and no fugitive is hiding out in your bushes, then you might consider a trip to the vet.
24. According to the passage, which factors won’t make dogs barking at nothing

One of the most widely accepted education theories shows that everyone has a unique learning style. According to this popular theory, some people are visual learners, others are auditory(听觉的)learners, while others are tactile-kinaesthetic learners, meaning these student need to touch materials. Supporters say teachers should adapt their lessons for each student learning style: Show lots of pictures to visual students; give verbal explanations to auditory students; provide lots of hands-on activities for tactile-kinaesthetic students.
Even though surveys show that most adults and nearly all teachers believe in the theory, it remains a theory without supporting evidence. The experiment on this theory showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the people who learned something according to their so-called I earning style versus those who did not.
The theory is far from harmless because it preserves a lie about how all students should learn. The theory makes it harder for student stole am things in dine rent ways. For example, someone who believes he is a visual learner now has a, eady-made excuse for why he cannot pay attention during lectures and why he doesn’t do well on tests in lecture courses. Similar y, those who think they are tactile-kinaesthetic learners quickly come to believe they cannot learn new things unless they’re working with their hands.
In addition, trying to plan for each student’s so-called learning style creates a huge burden to teachers. Instead of creating one lesson for the entire class, teachers must come up with at least three lessons. While students do not have individual learning styles, some topics are better suited for certain methods than others, For example, a good each teacher will probably use plenty of pictures and models when teaching young students about shapes and patterns. For other topics, such as learning how to pronounce certain words, the teacher will provide plenty of verbal instruction and practice for students. Simply put, teachers should be free to determine the delivery method for each lesson according to the nature of the content.
It’s tie to recognize that there are no visual learners, auditory learners or tactile-kinaesthetic learners. I here are only learners.
32. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 1
A. Classify learners into various types.
B. Give an account of different learning styles.
C. Encourage students to learn in different ways.
D. Advise students to adapt to various learning environments.
33. How does the theory of learning styles affect students
A. They have more difficulty paying attention during lectures.
B. They adapt themselves to various teaching methods.
C. They find a suitable way to promote their learning.
D. They take it as an excuse for their learning problems.
34. How does the author develop his idea in paragraph 4
A. By giving examples. B. By listing some data.
C. By making comparisons. D. By providing research results.
35. What should teachers do according to the author
A. Have the freedom to provide individual-style lessons.
B. Prepare for lessons to cover all of the learning styles.
C. Choose teaching methods depending on the contents.

The Making of a Believer
It was Christmas Eve morning, and I awoke with a mission: to find my lost cat, Baby-Girl, who is chubby and cute, fond of sitting in her one-and-only spot near the nearth (壁炉). AS I got ready, I could hear icy rain pouring down. I said a quick prayer for Baby-Girl. She was out there somewhere in the storm, I could just feel it. Sure, it had been six months since she’d gone missing, but I still had faith. It was the season for miracles, after all.
That summer, my sweet cat had disappeared from my parents’ house in Indiana. Baby-Girl had been staying with them. At the time, I lived and worked in Washington, D.C. Baby-Girl had gotten out of my parents’ house three days before I was set to fly back home to pick her up.
My dad and I spent that entire visit searching for her. Dad was the family’s resident “realistic”, which mean the spent a whole lot of time trying to prepare me for the worst. She’s either been hit by a car or been taken in by someone who found her” he said. I rolled my eyes. Dad always supported me, but he was so skepticat. He could do with a little more faith!
Besides, though I couldn’t explain it, I knew I’d see her Baby-Girl again. If any cat could do the impossible, it was my Baby-Girl. Even after T returned to D.C. without her and the weeks stretched into months, deep down I had this feeling that we’d be reunited.
How, home again for the holidays, I was de tem mined to pick up my search. I grabbed Baby-Girl’s cat carrier and loaded it into the car, then persuaded Dad to drive me to the shelter, hoping she’d been found.
“Sharon, you have to be realistic,” my dad said as we headed to the garage. “She’s been gone too long. You’re not going to find her.”
“Well, I just have a feeling,” I said
Dad raised an eyebrow a she climbed into the driver’s seat to take me to the shelter.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

续写:
We were led to the room where the abandoned cat lived. I tiptoed into the room with a strong feeling of anticipation. Out of nowhere, I heard a familiar meow, which absorbed my prompt attention suddenly. My eyes zeroed in on a little cat caged in the corner. She was skinnier than I remember, but it was my Baby-Girl all right! Overwhelmed with extreme excitement and delight, I opened the cage door. Baby-Girl practically jumped into my arms. I held her close, with my eye swelling up tears, as my Dad looked on, his jaw dropping wide with shock.
Soon after, my shocked Dad drove us back home. The instant we dropped Baby-Girl off, freeing her from the carrier, she immediately dashed to the hearth, seeking her favourite spot. On seeing this scene, we all roared with laughter, signaling that my Dad’s doubts were removed as well. Against all odds, my cat was home again, right before Christmas. It was such a miracle that my heart was filled with gratitude, feeling blessed with Baby-Girl’s long-awaited companion. As for my dear father who always support me, it turned out that Baby-Girl’s return made him a man of a believer.
