Nanjing Yunjin brocade is traditional Chinese silk art with a history of about 1,600 years. Its complex weaving techniques, various colors and patterns, and its particular choices of materials make it valuable and
ancient people said, “An inch of brocade, an inch of gold.” Today, the traditional characteristics and unique skills of yunjin remain to be an award-winning art treasure. Its techniques are passed down from generation to generation by artisans.
Zhou Shuangxi, a national-level inheritor of yunjin weaving techniques, is one of them. Back in 1973, he graduated from a mining school and was selected to become a student at the NanjingYunjin Research Institute along with five other students, just because he was “in good shape”. There were only several masters in their 70s and not even a loom (织布机) to use. “The old masters finally remembered a loom was stored somewhere. When I opened the door, I saw what seemed like a pile of wood,” Zhou recalled.
“Weaving was difficult, but different from mining. Mining requires heavy physical labor, but working with the soft and thin silk requires studying and practicing in front of a loom for decades until you master the technique. My hands became quite awkward due to mining, so I used to put my hands in warm water whenever I could. In this way, they could become softer and weave the silk more easily,” he said.
Out of the six or so students, Zhou is the only one who has insisted on the trade to this day. Having devoted the past five decades to yunjin production despite all the sweat and struggles, he has developed his techniques to the point where he can weave the antique dragon robes in all their small details. He also made various artworks that not only show China's intangible cultural heritage but also serve as Zhou Shuangxi's artistic creations.
“I am lucky to be in such a good era and I have the honor of being a representative inheritor,” Zhou said.
24.What was Zhou's original impression of yunjin weaving techniques as a student
A.They faced an uncertain future. B.They were popular among the public.
C.They required much physical strength. D.They were closely related to his schooling.
25.Why did Zhou put his hands in warm water
A.To relieve the pain of mining. B.To make them much handier.
C.To gain an attractive appearance. D.To rest his hands and draw inspiration.
26.What kind of person is Zhou probably according to the text
A.Determined and creative. B.Awkward and hesitant.
C.Encouraging and honest. D.Adventurous and sociable.
27.What's the text mainly about
A.The ups and downs of yunjin.
B.People's appreciation of a traditional art treasure.
C.Artisans' struggle to pass down traditional techniques.
D.A national-level inheritor of yunjin weaving techniques.

Starman, the dummy (仿真人) riding a cherry-red Tesla Roadster (特斯拉敞篷车) through space, has made his closest approach ever to Mars. The electric roadster and its passenger were attached to the top of a Falcon Heavy rocket during the SpaceX rocket’s first test launch on 6 February 2018.
Two years later, the Falcon Heavy rocket and the vehicle at its tip are making their second trip around the Sun. Mr. McDowell, a Harvard astrophysicist, found that Starman passed 7.4 million kilometers from Mars at 06:25 GMT 7 October, 2020.
The closest recent approach between the Earth and Mars was 56 million kilometers in 2003, though the planets are often hundreds of millions of miles apart depending on where they are in their orbits. No one can see the Falcon Heavy rocket at its current distance, but orbits over periods of a few years are fairly straightforward to predict, and Mr. McDowell used data about how the rocket was moving when it left the Earth’s gravity behind to locate its recent movements exactly.
Last time Starman circled the Sun, McDowell said, it crossed Mars’ orbit while the Red Planet was quite far away. But this time the crossing lined up with a fairly close approach, though still not close enough to feel a strong tug from Mars.
At this point in time, if you were able to go look at the Roadster, it would probably look pretty different. The strong solar radiation environment between the planets would probably have destroyed all the exposed organic materials.
Without the Earth’s atmospheric and magnetic (磁场的) protection, even the plastics and carbon-fibre materials would start to break up. Over the course of decades or centuries, the car will end up with its aluminium (铝) frame and hard glass parts—that’s assuming that none of them get destroyed in impacts with passing space rocks.
28.What can we know from the first two paragraphs
A.Starman is now circling around the Earth in its orbit.
B.Starman has set out on its second trip around the Sun.
C.Starman has traveled 7.4 million kilometers after launch.
D.Starman still has a long way to go before getting to Mars.
29.How did McDowell manage to locate Starman
A.By seeking professional help from SpaceX. B.By predicting its future orbit around the Earth.
C.By keeping Starman under visual observation. D.By analyzing data related to the rocket’s movements.
30.What does the underlined word “tug” most probably mean in paragraph 4
A.Pull. B.Drive. C.Resistance. D.Pressure.
31.What could be the best title for the passage
A.Starman’s circling around the Earth B.The dialogue between the Earth and Mars
C.Starman’s further approach to the Mars D.SpaceX’s vision in its next space mission
D
As you read this, pause to reflect on your recent interactions. As a politician, husband, and father, I encounter various spoken language styles: analytical or chatty, formal or informal, pointed or gentle, cooperative or decisive. Talk is the currency of politics. It is our way of negotiating, debating, and persuading. Talk is also the currency of learning-how we develop our ideas, deepen our thinking and share our feelings.
That’s why I want speaking skills, sometimes called “oracy”, to play an important part in Labor’s plans for a reformed school curriculum (课程).
Employers value speaking skills equally with reading and writing. The ability to speak well and express yourself should be something every child should master. But the curriculum doesn’t allow us to provide this. This is short-sighted. An inability to express your thoughts fluently is a key barrier to getting on and doing well in life.
Oracy is in part about good public speaking and debating skills, but in reality, it’s about teaching young people to make strong arguments, choose wise words, understand their audience, form meaningful social connections, and use facial expressions and body language to convey their message. Above all else it’s about finding your voice. To work out who you are and what you believe. If reading opens up a world of imagination and possibility, then speaking and listening opens up a lifetime of empowerment-a chance for those who feel invisible in their own country to be heard. It is about the confidence to speak out, to call out injustice or harm.
And the other side of speaking is listening, which can also be taught. Listening, truly listening, develops tolerance and understanding. And as parents we can play our part. We’ve all been there, at mealtimes, silent as we all stare at our devices. Our job, all of ours, is to get off our screens and give young people, and adults, the gift of listening.
So, oracy―speaking and listening―needs to be placed firmly at the heart of school life.
32.How does talk help a politician
A.It deepens his wishful thinking.
B.It enhances his analytical skills.
C.It strengthens persuasive power.
D.It provides emotional support.
33.Why does the author suggest a reform in the British school curriculum
A.Employers underestimate the value of speaking.
B.Academic pressure makes students poor-sighted.
C.Spoken language is regarded as least important.
D.Oracy should deserve more attention at school.
34.How does the author illustrate his argument in paragraph 4
A.By sharing different opinions.
B.By clarifying the definition.
C.By describing personal experiences.
D.By employing the concept.
35.What are parents advised to do
A.Set a good example for their children.
B.Balance screen time and mealtime.
C.Have oral face-to-face communication.
D.Disconnect from the virtual world.

While technology addicts teens to their devices, they are not helpless against the draw of it. Here are five ways educators can support their students’ digital well-being.
Explore design tricks companies use. The technology we use daily is designed to catch and hold our attention. Companies know what keeps our eyes on the screen. To help, teachers can unpack design tricks and explain how companies employ features like auto-play to get users to stay on their apps. 36
Talk about how technology can increase feelings of anxiety. The decline in youth mental health is associated with an increase in social media use. 37 We can help our students by allowing them to consider the benefits of technology and then to think about changing the habits that aren’t serving their well-being.
38 Social media can bring the feeling: “All my friends have better lives than me.” Plus, design features like “read receipts” can lead to teens knowing their messages have been seen and stressing about why friends haven’t yet replied. These are classic examples of thinking traps. Identifying them can help teens get rid of some negative thoughts.
Uncover the ways that AI can play a role in misinformation. AI is rapidly transforming the world. Recommendation algorithms (算法), which determine what we do and do not see on our feeds and in our search results, can have very real consequences. 39 By understanding how these technologies work, students can start to enjoy more benefits of technology.
Encourage families to have meaningful conversations with their child. Take the time to share with families the topics and resources you’re teaching in class. 40 Knowing we’re all in the same boat is crucial.
A.Social media is ruining our life.
B.Connect them with their inner world.
C.Build their awareness of thinking traps.
D.This by no means indicates all technology is bad.
E.They can pull us toward increasingly extreme views.
F.It turns out adults and kids all pursue digital well-being.
G.Knowing these can motivate students to get back their attention.

Jenny was the only child in her family. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat. She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she gave a sigh and had to leave. The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles ” “Oh, yes, but I don’t have money on me.” she replied.
“That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man “Come in.” The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently. “What is it ” asked the man kindly. “Nothing. Actually, I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears. “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!” Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you Have you expressed your gratitude to her ” Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock: she remembered her mother’s familiar face and weathered hands. “Why didn’t I think of that A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted. Why haven’t I thanked my mum for what she has done for me ” On the way home. Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.

If someone encounters a burn, act immediately and cool the affected area under cool running water for 10 minutes to mitigate pain and swelling. Avoid using ice, which can worsen the burn. After the cooling, protect the burn with a sterile bandage or clean cloth—take care not to break any blisters. It’s essential to not to apply creams, oils, or butter, as these can cause infection. Timely and appropriate measures help ensure the best possible recovery.
