专题04 读后续写15篇
(名校期中真题)
1.(22-23高二下·广东深圳·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was lunchtime, Jerry, David, Tom, and I went to the dining hall to have lunch. I glanced across the busy cafeteria and saw the new student, Jack. He was holding his plate and waiting in lines.
David noticed him too. “Why is the new kid dressed like the headmaster ” he asked. Tom and Jerry laughed.
“Jack’s cool. He’s in my English and history classes, ” I said. However, I kept the truth that Jack and I had become friends when we worked on a project together. We discovered that we were both enthusiastic readers —something I would never admit to Jerry, David and Tom.
I saw that Jack was walking toward us. “Don’t do it,” I thought, but in seconds he was at our table. My friends raised their eyebrows. Jerry, David and Tom piled their backpacks on the table and chairs so that there was no space left for another person to sit down. David said, “I don’t think we have room. ”
This awkward situation froze the air. I could feel Jack looking at me, but I stared at my lunch as if it had contained precious pearls of wisdom instead of rice and beans. After a long, uncomfortable pause, Jack left. 1 should have spoken up for him, but I couldn’t walk away from my three friends, could I
Jack didn’t speak to me after that meeting. He was soon hanging around with another group of kids. A few months later, I saw an announcement about Jack being chosen to be president of the school book club. I was happy for Jack’s achievement, but I realized I had made a big mistake when I said nothing at the lunch table that day. Why was I so afraid that my friends might find out that I like to read
As I stared at the announcement, I knew I needed to apologize to Jack —even if he did not want to become my friend again. I thought that my three friends would not agree. I also thought that I risked losing them as well. However, I knew that I would lose myself if I did nothing.

In 2000, when I was six years old, my parents, sister, and I were coming back from a baseball game. Little did we know that a big surprise was waiting for us in our driveway. We spotted two adult geese and a small gosling. The adults were frightened away by our return, but their baby was still too young to follow. We were no strangers to the ways of wildlife, so we avoided physical contact with the young gosling out of fear that he would stay with us and be lost to his family forever.
Hours passed, and night fell. With it came a deep chill and a fear of watchful predators. The tiny little thing was wandering around our yard, unaware of what could happen. It was clear that he needed protection, warmth, and food to survive until morning. At that point, we knew we had to bring him into our house.
We all slept with one eye open till morning came. And then another morning. Each morning, we would try to drive the goose over to his parents, who kept coming back to our yard. He wouldn’t go to them, though, and they wouldn’t come close enough to claim him. We kept this up for five days, but no luck. The young goose had decided we were his new family, so we had to give him a name, Peeper.
Days turned into weeks, months until almost a year passed. We settled into a routine filled with feathery hugs. One evening, my uncle came. My dad wanted to show him Peeper. He threw Peeper up in the air, but he just flew off. Everyone was sad and worried. We looked for Peeper for days, but he didn’t come back. We hoped he had gone to join a flock of his own kind. Again, days turned into weeks, months, and then years. I missed my little buddy. I would call for him every time I saw a flock of geese in V-formation. Twenty years passed, and Peeper became a fond memory for my family.

【答案】
In 2019, an aging adult goose came to my family home. At first, I thought it was just another goose, but something about it seemed strangely familiar to me. Its coming reminded me of Peeper, who was probably as old as this goose, if he was still alive. Out of kindness, I provided it with food and water and then it left after eating. Watching him leave, I was filled with sadness.
After this goose came back repeatedly for two weeks, it became clear to me that this was Peeper. He did all of the same things Peeper used to do in Peeper’s old ways, and much to my surprise, he even responded to the name Peeper. It became clear to me that my old best friend had returned, 20 years later. This experience has been as meaningful to me as anything in my life. Looking beyond our reach high in the sky, birds have feelings like human beings, so do many other living things. We human beings should learn to get along well with them. We need each other’s care and protection.

3.(23-24高二上·浙江·期中)阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My dad believed in new experiences!
I have to admit the examples from his youth fascinated me. He specialized in his adventures growing up in Omaha in the early 1900s. His brothers threw him into a lake to teach him to swim. His family kept a cow, which he led into the church at Christmas to give Baby Jesus milk at the age of four. On and on! He used those stories to urge me to fresh experiences.
One day he came home from work early and saw me watching a local TV show — Talent Sprouts, a daily con test for kids fourteen and under. It didn’t take Dad long to look me in the eye. “You should go on Talent Sprouts.” He added, “You can play ‘Ave Maria’ — an original by Schubert (舒伯特). Think of it — an unforgettable experience to be on TV as an eleven-year-old!”
I quailed (退缩). I didn’t want to. I was basically shy. But I knew it would be useless to argue, so I mailed my application with the required information. Days later, I received a notice about performance.
Dad was over the moon when I told him I had been assigned a day to perform less than two weeks away. Still, I had very little confidence in my talent. I did practice several times each day. However, I either skipped some beats or unable to grasp the rhythm well when practicing. I could never have played Schubert’s original perfectly, so I was increasingly uneasy about the coming performance.
When my Monday came, I took a bus to the TV station with my Dad. I checked in at the desk. The host of Talent Sprouts, and the musical director welcomed the participants and described the routine for us. Everything was fresh there. The crew in the auditorium pushed big cameras on wheels and adjusted lights. I waited on the seat and soon I was called.

Para. 2
Disappointed, I returned to my seat, where my dad was waiting for me.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 I went to the piano and began to play. Easy, so easy! Fun almost ...right up to the coda at the end. I suddenly realized I should not be at the end! My heart jumped to my mouth. I had skipped a part. A huge part. How did that happen Taking a deep breath, I calmed down. Somehow my brain went to work and I continued playing. I tried to smile at the camera and played the rest smoothly as if no skipping had happened. After what seemed an eternity, I stopped playing. However, it turned out that my performance had probably lasted barely a minute.
Disappointed, I returned to my seat, where my dad was waiting for me. Surely the result was as expected — I wasn’t the winner. On my way home, I surprised myself by feeling more relieved than disappointed. I could not pretend that my performance was the best. In truth, the other three were far superior. When I talked about The Big
Skip, Dad smiled, “It may not have been noticed by someone who doesn’t know Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria.’ Your movement was smooth. You didn’t fall apart. All in all, a worthwhile experience.”

It was the Easter holidays, and school was closed for two weeks. For me, the Easter holidays were so boring that it was impossible to find something fun to do. My mom had suggested that I do some studies since the promotion test was coming up. However, I didn’t follow my mother’s suggestion. Instead, I went outside to seek out my friends to play with. When I had successfully contacted some of my friends, none of them seemed to be much in a playful mood, but one friend Jimmy agreed to play with me. He suggested we go down to the river and just relax there. The river was not far from my home, and we arrived there quickly.
Just relaxing on the river bank with nothing but some waste logs, it wasn’t fun for us at first. Clearly what was on our minds was to jump into the river and just take a swim in the clear cool water. So we took off our clothes down to our underwear and walked into the shallow part of the water. The water was truly cool and
refreshing and we were starting to have fun then, playing and laughing, as we splashed the cool water onto each other’s faces.
Then we started to chase each other around on the river bank and then we ran straight into the river. We were having so much fun that we didn’t notice danger was around the corner. Before Jimmy could know it, and before he could do anything to keep his balance, he lost his footing on a tree branch, which was in the shallow part of the water, and slipped, bringing his whole entire body into the deep water. He tried to resurface from the water but found it extremely hard to keep his head above the water.

【答案】I was scared to see him struggling in the water but I knew I must rescue him. I took a deep breath to keep calm. Looking around, I found a waste log, I threw it to him immediately and asked him to hold it and not to give up. At the same time I yelled for help, hoping someone could come to our rescue. Luckily, my mom heard my cries, rushed out of the house and raced towards us. She jumped into the water and reached out her hands to pull him. Several neighbors also quickly joined the rescue. They managed to get Jimmy out of the water. Finally, Jimmy was saved, pale and shivering.
After a while, Jimmy recovered from panic and thanked my mom and the neighbors. We hugged each other in tears. I thought my mom would scold me. But she just held us in her arms tightly. She warned us it was dangerous to swim in the river. Both of us felt ashamed and promised never to do that again. This was really a special Easter, one I would never forget. For Jimmy, he had a narrow escape from drowning. For me, I felt the kindness of my neighbors.

When I was in the fifth grade, my parents and I moved abroad. One day, when reading the newspaper, I learned my hometown had just gone through a big natural disaster. And my hometown couldn’t get enough new school supplies for kids. I wondered how the kids were going to school if they didn’t have basic things like desks and books.
That same year, my school received new desks. The hundreds of old ones, which were still in good condition, were put into storage (贮存). And I learned there was little chance that the old desks would be used by my school again. I thought it was a waste. If my school really didn’t need the desks, could I send them to the kids in my hometown When I told my parents about the old desks at my school and what I thought could be done with them, they loved the idea.
Then, we asked a leader of my school if the school could have the desks donated to my hometown. She said she needed to get some other people’s agreement. One day later, she gave us the answer. It was “yes”! But she
wasn’t sure whether we were able to move the desks to such a far place. Desks are very heavy and it would cost a lot to ship them.
But my parents and I wouldn’t give up. We began e-mailing organizations that worked for children’s rights, asking for their help. My parents’ friends also helped us by e-mailing shipping companies, hoping they’d agree to ship the desks to my hometown.
Eventually, our efforts paid off. With the help of some organizations, a shipping company promised to ship the desks to my hometown through one of their big containers. And they’d let us use their trucks to transport the desks to the container. But we needed to load (装上) the desks onto the trucks and then carry the desks from the trucks to the container ourselves.

Then we waited for the desks to reach my hometown. Days later, all the desks arrived in my hometown and were sent to the schools that needed them. And we received many thanks from the kids we helped. I found the kitten sitting on the front step of our house. He was black and white and looked quite weak. Where did he come from I noticed he had no collar around his neck. Who would be so irresponsible
I went inside and opened a can of fish. After I placed the can in the doorway, the kitten hungrily lapped it up and then walked right inside the house. Later, after jumping onto a bunch of pillows on the couch, he began to groom his hair.
I bet his last owners didn’t love him at all! I thought. If someone can’t take care of their kitten, they deserve to lose him! Our family never owned pets, but I had always wanted one. It’s a good thing I found that kitten and took him in. Thank goodness he found me!
The kitten kept meowing quite a lot. And then, it started trying to bite my hand.
“Hey, kitten! I’m not food!” I said. But the kitten tried again to bite my finger. I knew I had to get him some proper cat food. “You stay put, kitten!” I told him. “I’m going to get you food!” Then I grabbed my keys and headed out to the pet store nearest to our house.
On my way to the store, I spotted a sign on the telephone pole:
LOST KITTEN-Black and White, very friendly. If you find him, please call us.
“If you were so worried about your kitten,” I thought, “maybe you should have taken better care of him!”
When I walked into the pet store, I found that the place was packed with kids handing out flyers about the same cat to customers inside. In the back of the store, I saw a boy under 10 years old, crying in his wheelchair. “I can’t believe I lost my kitten!” he said to his parents.

【答案】One possible version
I looked at the flyers on the wall carefully this time — it was definitely the cat I had back at home! Then the truth of the situation hit me — I had stolen a little boy’s cat! I tried to justify why I should keep the kitten by
convincing myself the owners deserved to lose him. Now I saw that it was all a big mistake. I approached the little boy in the wheelchair. He blew his nose and looked up at me. “I have your kitten,” I told him. “I’m sorry. I just found him and fed him. He’s at my house.”
The little boy began to cry with laughter. He held his arms out and gave me a big hug. “Thank you so much! I was just about to put a new collar on him when he ran out the door. I couldn’t chase him because of my legs ...” I then ran home to get the kitten and reunited the owner and his pet finally. I once thought for sure the kitten’s owners deserved to lose him; yet in the end, I was the one who didn’t deserve to keep the kitten.

When I was little, I used to walk with my grandmother on a quiet and small road across which she and my grandfather lived. My grandfather rarely joined us. He was a seemingly strict man, an ex-soldier who. usually held
back his emotions, especially his affection(喜爱). He wasn’t a man who hugged me often when I was a child, but I had never doubted his love for me.
Grandma and I would walk, hand in hand, moving at an equal pace. The sun would be shining; the birds would be singing. We would chat about this and that, or just walk in silence, enjoying the outdoors and each other’s company. Yet, for me, these times were not just a chance to get some exercise or be with my grandmother, though both were important. These walks were treasure hunts.
More often than not, at the road’s edge, there would be money. Not lots of it — I cent here, 5 cents there. Sometimes, on really lucky days, I’d find 10 cents or even 25. I’d pick up these coins, proudly show Grandma and joyfully put them into my pockets. Some days, I wouldn’t find anything. “Maybe next time, ” my grandmother would say. Other days, I’d come back from our walk with more than twenty-five cents to put in my piggy bank, or to buy candies — a treat for a six-year-old child.
Looking back now, it wasn’t even the money that was such a big deal; it was the joy of discovery. It was the hope of finding something small left or forgotten along the side of the road. It made me feel so lucky and so special. Yet, it wasn’t until years later, when I was in my late twenties, that the simple memory meant much more to me than simply the happiness of a child. It was my mother who told me the secret which brought a whole new meaning to my experience.

“Remember when you used to walk with Grandma and find money ”Mother asked. “All those years, ”she said, “your grandfather drove up and down the walking route, dropping change for you to find.” I was amazed. I remembered how he’d smile when I dug my finds out of my pocket to show him, but I’d always thought he was just happy about my luck. I’d never imagined that he was the one responsible for it. It turned out that he had given me joy in the way I hadn’t even connected to him.
Paragraph 2:
Now, I would do the same thing my grandfather did. Every once in a while, as I take a walk down the street, I drop a cent or two, or maybe even 25, and watch the money roll on the street. I picture some small children finding it, pleased with the discovery. They’ll never know someone put it there on purpose for them to find. But that’s part of the joy and a precious memory. Thanks, Grandfather.

There was an unlucky person named Bob May, whose 4yearold daughter Barbara sobbed quietly on his lap. Bob’s wife, Evelyn, was dying of cancer. Little Barbara couldn’t understand why her mum could never come home. Barbara looked up into her dad’s eyes asking, “Why isn’t Mommy just like everybody else’s Mommy “. Her question made Bob’s eyes filled with tears, which had been the story of Bob’s life. Life always had to be different for Bob.
As a kid, he was too little at the time to compete in sports. Besides, from childhood he was often called names he’d rather not remember. However, Bob did complete college, married his loving wife and was grateful to get his job as a copywriter at Montgomery Ward during the Great Depression.
Then he was blessed with his little girl. But unfortunately, Evelyn’s cancer cost them all their savings and now Bob and his daughter were forced to live in a tworoom apartment in the Chicago slums(贫民窟). Evelyn died just days before Christmas.
Bob struggled to give hope to his child, for whom he couldn’t even afford to buy a Christmas gift. But if he couldn’t buy a gift, he was determined to make one — a storybook! Bob had created an animal character in his own mind and told the animal’s story to little Barbara to give her comfort and hope.
Again and again Bob told the story, which was his own autobiography(自传) in fable form. The character he created had the same experience as Bob had.The character was a little reindeer named Rudolph, with a big shiny nose. Bob finished the book just in time to give it to his little girl on Christmas Day.
The general manager of Montgomery Ward heard of the little storybook and offered Bob May a fee to purchase the rights to print the book. Wards went on to print the book and distribute it to children visiting Santa Claus in their stores.

The book became a best seller. By the end of the year, Wards had printed more than six million copies of the book and distributed them to many children. It is clear that Bob May became wealthy because of the story he created to comfort his sad daughter. His daughter lived happily with him and received good education. Besides, the book has a big influence on all the children in the world.
Bob May learned some lessons from this experience. First of all, no matter how unlucky you are, never lose heart to life. What’s more, love your family. The gift of love that Bob May created for his daughter so long ago kept on returning back to reward him again and again. Last but not least, being different isn’t so bad. In fact, being different can be a blessing.

One day, when my sister Jane and I were having fun in our yard, a homeless dog came to us and then stopped several meters away from us. She looked at us as if she wanted some food.
So I went inside and returned with some food for her. I left the food before us, but she was afraid to get it. Her eyes were filled with fear and it seemed she would escape any minute. Seeing it, Jane and I stepped back. It was then that she tried walking ahead. When noticing that we meant no harm, she began enjoying the food crazily. But while having the food, she still kept raising her head, fearing we’d harm her. When she finally ate up all the food, she took a look at us and then ran away.
We didn’t expect to see her again. But to our surprise, in the following week, she visited us every other day, and we continued offering her food. Later, she even visited us each day. With time going by, she looked much healthier because of the food we gave her. But each time she ate up the food, she’d escape. She still feared humans. We didn’t know what caused her to be so timid. Maybe she was once abandoned (遗弃) by a human. Whatever it was, Jane and I had great pity for her and decided to continue showing her love as long as she would come. Our parents supported us and we named the dog Chanel.
When winter came, the temperature became lower and lower. We began inviting Chanel to have food inside our room. Amazingly, she followed, and each time she finished eating, she’d sit by the fireplace comfortably for a while. She had more trust in us but was still timid. Once we came closer to her, she’d escape. Still, we loved her. But suddenly, after one day in May, she stopped visiting us. We were worried about her, fearing she might have come across something bad. Finally, one morning, she visited us again.

【答案】One possible version:
We were shocked to find Chanel looked so sick and weak. She tried hard to balance her body while walking. Jane and I offered her food but she showed no interest at all. She just looked at us and made some special noise. We didn’t know what had happened to her. Surprisingly, the once timid dog bravely got close to us and touched us with her feet. Then she tried to go outside and kept turning back. We guessed she wanted to lead us somewhere. So we followed her.
At last, we reached an abandoned house and found four baby dogs there. To our surprise, they looked as weak as Chanel. We suddenly know why she led us there. She wanted us to take care of her babies because she was ill. Seeing this, we decided to take the babies home. With the help of our parents, we took good care of Chanel and her babies. We could see that Chanel felt much closer to us. Before long, they all recovered health and we lived happily ever after.

Mrs. Bobbin, the dressmaker, was tired and had a bad headache. but she still managed to sew the last stiches in the gown (礼服裙) she was making.
“It’s the most beautiful dress in the whole world!” said her daughter, Irene. “The duchess(公爵夫人)will love it.”
“It is nice,” her mother admitted. “But, darling, it’s for tonight’s ball(舞会), and I don’t have the strength to deliver it. I feel sick.”
“Poor Mama,” said Irene. “I can get it there!”
“No, honey, I can’t let you,” said Mrs. Bobbin. “Such a huge package, and it’s such a long way to the duchess’s house. Besides. it’s starting to snow.”
But Irene insisted. She coaxed her mother into bed, covered her with two quilts. Then with great care, Irene packed the splendid gown in a big box with plenty of tissue paper. She kissed her mother’s hot forehead and slipped out with the big box, shutting the door firmly behind her.
It really was cold outside, very cold. The wind whirled the falling snow-flakes about. It blew so rudely that she could hardly move ahead. Cold snow sifted into her boots and chilled her feet. She pushed out her lip and hurried on. This was an important task.
“Take it easy!” she told herself, leaning back hard against the wind.
“Go home!” the wind shouted. “Irene…go hooome…”
“I will do no such thing,” she snapped. “No such thing, you wicked wind! The gown had to get to the duchess!” She went shuffling through the snow.
“Go ho-o-ome,” the wind screamed.
“GO HO-WO-WOME,” it shrieked, “or else…”
The wind decided to put on a show. It wrestled her for the package—walloped it, twisted it, shook it, snatched at it.
But Irene wouldn’t give up. “It’s my mother’s work!” she screamed. She took hold of the box tightly.

【答案】范文:
Suddenly Irene stepped in a hole, fell over and her foot got injured. “Keep quiet!” She blamed it on the wind. “You’ve done enough damage already.” The wind swallowed up her words. She sat in the snow in great pain, afraid that she wouldn’t be able to go on. For a short second, Irene wondered if she should follow the wind’s warning. But it was her dear mother’s hard work, all those days of measuring, cutting, pinning, stitching ... And the poor duchess! She must be waiting for the gown anxiously. She managed to get to her feet and start moving again.
Eventually she was at the door of the duchess’s house. She knocked the door and was welcomed by cheering servants and the anxious duchess. They couldn’t believe she had come in such a snowstorm, all by herself. They were so deeply moved by her courage that they immediately served her with a good dinner by the fire. The
duchess, meanwhile, got into her gown before the guests arrived. What a wonderful ball it was! The duchess was like a bright star in the sky. “Mama would enjoy hearing all about it.” A smile of relief appeared on Irene’s face.

At six years old, I dreamed of becoming an artist. My mom knew this, so she gave the perfect gift to a first-grade artist like me. My friends and I called them “Stampy Markers (马克笔)”. They quickly became my treasure.
Unfortunately, my little sister thought they were amazing, too. For three days in a row, she would ask to play with my markers. However, each time, she would receive my firm “No”. Finally, maybe realizing it was impossible to take them from.me, she stopped asking. And I was able to leave them out in my room when I went to school, certain that she understood they were forbidden to her.
The first day that I didn’t hide them, I got home from school and went upstairs to my room. Right away, I saw that my markers were not where I had left them. My rainbow-colored treasures were gone!
Suspecting that my sister might have something to do with their ds appearance, I searched the entire house for her. Finally, I found her in the basement and, sure enough, she was working on some rainbow drawing with my markers surrounding her.
“Hey! Why did you take them while I was away ” I started yelling at her.
“Sorry...but I...” she murmured.
Before she could make any explanation, I grabbed the markers—at least the ones I could reach—and ran back up to my room, slamming the door shut behind me. I sat there for at least half an hour, but it seemed like much longer. Then, I heard my sister’s footsteps coming up the stairs.
I opened my mouth, about to demand that she give the rest of my markers back, when I noticed a folded piece of paper being pushed underneath the door.
Once it reached my side of the door, I picked it up. As I read the words written on the cover, my anger quickly fell away.
What was on the paper was something that I would never forget.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】What was on the paper was something that I would never forget. On the cover were those words carefully written “Best Sister Ever”, though crooked. As I unfolded it, I was amazed at what I saw—a picture, in which she and I smiled happily with hands holding tightly and a rainbow above. Moved yet guilty, I couldn’t help but regret that I had yelled at my younger sister, while she was making a so lovely gift for me. Leaning against the door, I suddenly realized my sister must be standing on the other side of the door, nervously expecting my response and my forgiveness.
I opened the door, reached out to her and gave her a hug. “I’m sorry. You are surely my best sister too.” With guilt and shame stirring in me, I murmured, “Could you forgive me ”, holding her in my arms even closer. She nodded her head, eyes twinkling with joy. Later that afternoon we finished the rainbow drawing together, with laughter echoing in our room. The “stampy markers” ended up running out of color or getting lost, but the memory of that day will never faded away from my mind, constantly reminding me that the greatest treasure of all is love and forgiveness you have for your family and of course, theirs for you, too.

I was walking on the pavement when a bus racing by took me back to a memory of the priceless gift given by a complete stranger five years ago.
It was a warm March evening, and I’d just taken a seat on the bus that would take me home. It was nearly 6:00 p.m., but the bus was not yet full. A middle-aged woman took a seat opposite me. She was crying. Not speaking to anyone in particular, she tearfully narrated her story. She had come to the city to visit her daughter. On the way to the terminal, a thief had snatched one of her bags. It had contained half of the money she’d brought with her. The other half was rolled in a handkerchief and hidden under her shirt, so she fortunately still had some money left. The driver and other passengers listened to her tale. After a few minutes, she stopped crying, removed some cheese bread from her bag, and began to eat, worry still knitting her brow.
An old man in worn clothes got on the bus. He sat in the seat directly in front of the woman.
After a few minutes, all seats were taken. The driver collected tickets and began asking us where we were getting off. When he came to the old man’s seat, he became suspicious and asked the old man whether he had any money. The old man admitted that he did not. He explained that he had spent all his money this morning when he’d accidentally got on the wrong bus and now he was trying to go home. Upon hearing this, the driver ordered the old man to get off the bus. The old man was almost in tears as he begged the bus conductor to let him take that bus so he could get home before dark.
The woman seated behind the old man was also listening and observing the incident. When the bus driver raised his voice at the old man, she interfered, “Stop forcing him! Can’t you see he’s only trying to get home ”
“He doesn’t have any money!” the driver shouted.
“Well, that’s no reason to throw him off the bus,” she insisted.

【答案】One possible version:
Then she said, “How much is his fare ” The bus driver murmured the amount. “Fine,” said the woman. She reached inside her shirt, took out her remaining money, and handed the fares to the bus driver. “Here is his fare and mine. Just stop giving him a hard time.” The driver took the fares and went back to his seat to roll the bus out of the terminal. Then, the woman gave the old man who was constantly expressing his gratitude her cheese bread and a dollar.
Everyone stared surprisingly at the woman, who, just minutes before, had been crying over the money she’d lost. “It’s only money.” She added, “Everyone will get stuck in trouble occasionally.” She rolled the rest of the way home wearing a smile of peace and grace, and the money she’d lost earlier was forgotten. On the road of life, the help and smile of a stranger can lighten our loads and lift our spirits. That is the priceless gift during the journey.

“I have to be home earlier than all my friends,” my teenage son, Jordan, said. “I’ m seventeen years old, and I still have a curfew(宵禁). Legally, I’m practically an adult.”
“You’re not an adult,” I said. “You’re still in high school.” “None of my friends had a curfew. You don’t trust me.” “It’s not about trust,” I said. “It’s about wanting what’s best for you. I want to protect you.” “Protect me from what Having fun ”
I sighed. How could I make Jordan see that I only wanted the best for him I decided to go for a walk. I opened the front door and nearly stepped on him: a small black cat with a white-tipped tail. “Hi, Meatball,” I said, scooping him into my arms. “Are you ready to come back inside ”
Meatball usually seemed happy enough to come in the house, but after an hour or two, he sat by the door, meowing to go back outside. “Why won’t he just stay in with us all the time ” Nathan asked. “Because he’s used to living outside,” I said.
Jordan’s curfew had become an ongoing discussion that rarely ended well for either of us. I decided to ignore his comment. Thankfully, he didn’t say anything else.
One night in January, temperatures were usually low. Meatball stood at the door, meowing to go outside. “It’ s too cold out there, Bud,” I said. “You’ll freeze.” He stared at me and meowed again. “Mom’s not being mean to you,” Nathan told the cat. “She’s just trying to keep you from turning into a frozen Meatball.” We both laughed at his joke.
The next morning, I couldn’t find Meatball. Jordan said, “I let him out last night.” It took me several minutes to find him curled in a tiny ball beneath my husband’s car. I picked him up, unsure if he was alive or dead. While I called the vet, Jordan warmed towels in the dryer and wrapped them around Meatball.
“I’m sorry, Buddy,” I heard him say over and over again. “Mom was right. Even though you didn’t want to, I should have made you stay inside where it was safe.”
