On the day he almost died, Kimbal Musk had food on the brain. The Internet startup talent and restaurateur had just arrived in Jackson Hole from a conference where chef Jamie Oliver had spoken about the benefits of healthy eating. This was something Musk thought about a lot-how he might make a difference to the food industry-but beyond expanding his farm-to-table movement along with his restaurant, Musk hadn’t yet broken the code. Then he went sailing down a snowy slope (坡) and fell over, breaking his neck. The left side of his body was paralyzed.
Musk eventually made a full recovery, but it involved spending two months on his back, which gave him plenty of time to come up with a plan. Since then, he has launched an initiative to put “learning gardens” in public
schools across America; attracted Generation Z to the farming profession by changing shipping containers into high-tech, data-driven, year-round farms; and this year, is kicking off a new campaign to create one million at-home gardens.
Aimed at reaching low-income families, the Million Gardens Movement was inspired by the pandemic, as both a desire to feel more connected to nature and food insecurity have been at the forefront of so many people’s lives. “We were getting a lot of inquiries about gardening from people that had never gardened before, “ says Musk. “People were looking to garden for a bunch of reasons: to supplement their budget, to improve the nutritional quality of their diets, or just to cure the boredom that came with the lockdown.”
The program offers free garden kits that can be grown indoors or outdoors, and will be distributed through schools that Musk’s non-profit, Big Green, has already partnered with. It also offers free courses on how to get the garden growing and fresh seeds and materials for the changing growing seasons. “I grew up in the projects when I was young, in what we now call food deserts, “ says EVE, one of the many celebrities who have teamed up with the organization to encourage people to pick up a free garden. “What I love about this is that it’s not difficult. We are all able to grow something.”
24.What does the underlined expression “broken the code” in paragraph 1 probably mean
A.broken the rule B.found a way out
C.spared no effort D.made up his mind
25.What can we learn about the Million Gardens Movement
A.It has just accomplished its target.
B.It has mainly attracted young generations.
C.It increases economic burdens for the poor.
D.It may be stimulated by a lack of food security.
26.Which of the following best describes Musk
A.Serious. B.Flexible.
C.Charitable. D.Straightforward.
27.Why is EVE taken as an example
A.To share his experience in a food desert.
B.To motivate people to start a free garden.
C.To clarify the reason why he loves a garden.
D.To demonstrate the program to be non-profit.

About 400 pounds of food is wasted per day from 5-8 pm in Douglass Dining Hall in Rochester alone,
College student Allison Roll and a few others who do the scraping report data on how much waste is generated in Douglass Dining Hall during the dinner hours.
“We hand scrape the food from the conveyor belt into the buckets (桶), and I’m not going to lie, I did not expect to basically become a garbage girl,” Roll said. “We do the work because we care about it a lot. I feel that no one can break away from taking responsibility for caring for the environment.”
With the goal of creating more approachable composting (堆肥) systems on campus, Roll now has a new sustainable project. Through a special fund, Roll was able to invest in Lomi, an automated composting system that will reside on campus.
Lomi is a new technology that can break down food waste into natural compost. Lomi is basically an automatic version of the natural decomposition (分解) process. It takes it and automates it. Unlike most composting systems, Lomi can compost animal products, such as small bones. It can turn waste into compost in as little as four hours.
She hopes that this system will inspire other composting systems in all residential halls. “I want Lomi not only to be a way to reduce food waste on the floor, but to be an educational tool to introduce people to composting in a real way and not just talking about it in a theoretical sense,” Roll said.
She acknowledges that the machine is expensive and can be exposed to damage if not used properly. Roll will teach others how to operate it themselves so they can generate motivation for composting and feel like they’re part of the process.
28.Why does Roll scrape food in Douglass Dining Hall
A.She does the job to cover her tuition fees.
B.She collects food for a school-funded project.
C.She has long dreamed of becoming a garbage girl.
D.She feels obligated to make efforts to reduce food waste.
29.What can be learned about Lomi
A.It is inexpensive. B.It is easy to handle.
C.It breaks down food waste fast. D.It fails to compost animal bones.
30.What does Roll plan to do
A.Teach students how to make a compost bin.
B.Motivate more students to do the scraping.
C.Encourage more people to compost food waste.
D.Ship Lomi to more communities.
31.What is the best title for the text
A.A study of food waste behavior of students
B.Food waste in campus dining halls
C.A composting system on campus
D.Ways to compost food waste

For those of us who grew up watching Star Trek, exploring space has been about discovering strange new worlds. And there are plenty of worlds to explore in time, but we still need major technological advancements to reach planets that are light years away.
What we are doing in space today is providing unbelievable benefits right now, right here on Earth. From space, we can monitor, manage and care for our planet. Satellite-based sensors show us the short- and long-term effects of human activity on our environment. Many companies are using their interest in space to help solve problems here, from using hyperspectral imaging(高光谱成像), which enable us to map vegetation(植被) and rain forests, to microsatellites that provide global connectivity for the network of things.
My company, OneWeb, is focusing on what I believe is one of the world’s most important issues: the need for equal access to the Internet. The Internet has become our economic lifeblood. And yet, nearly half of the world’s population doesn’t have Internet access. Space is playing a key role in bridging this digital divide. OneWeb is launching 1,980 satellites to help bring Internet access to people everywhere, and our first production satellites are already flying in space and have shown very high download speeds.
Fiber and cable Internet access technologies already cover most financially viable(可行的) major cities. Similarly, these regions will also be the first to be served with 5G. Poor communities are the last to get connected, and without connectivity, those communities have no chance to lift themselves from poverty. OneWeb’s satellites will reach every community in the world and enable equal access to the Internet for the world’s less developed places.
Fifty years from the day when man first walked on the moon, we are still only approaching the possible. There will be tens of thousands of new satellites, space stations and factories in the coming years to bring advancements in communications, scientific research, monitoring the earth, exploring space and more. This is exciting, but we must take action carefully.
32.What is the second paragraph mainly about
A.Benefits space exploration can bring to us.
B.Problems space exploration leads to.
C.Steps of space exploration requires.
D.Equipment space exploration needs.
33.What is OneWeb aiming to do
A.Increase download speeds.
B.Narrow the gap in Internet learning.
C.Help people set up and maintain a website.
D.Enable people to make use of the Internet equally.
34.What can be inferred from the text
A.More than six decades ago, man first walked on the moon.
B.More than half of the world’s people have no access to the Internet.
C.OneWeb’s satellites will make it possible for most people to be served with 5G.
D.Without the Internet, poor communities can hardly help themselves out of poverty.
35.What will the writer probably continue to write about in the following paragraph
A.The risks of furthering space exploration.
B.The value of setting up space stations.
C.The way we could monitor our earth.
D.The features of microsatellites.

For many of us, it is not easy to feel inspired by the artworks that we see at museums. Here are some tips on how to create that meaningful connection.
Keep an open mind
Once you are in an art museum, try not to have any ideas about what you’re about to see. 36 . You can love it. You can hate it. Just tell yourself that it’s OK.
Draw personal connections to the art
When you see an artwork, just let your mind wander and follow your thought wherever it leads you. 37 . As a result, a deep connection will happen.
38
You can increase the chances of finding an art piece you connect with by going to a museum that interests you. If you’re interested in climate change, for example, you may pick a museum that’s showing artworks inspired by Earth conservation.
Really “look at” the art
After you have found an artwork you like, take time to observe it closely. You can take a finger to the air and follow the outline of the figure or the movement of the brushstrokes. 39 .
Keep your museum visit short and focused
Art museums can be huge. So be realistic about how long you can spend at the museum. 40 . After that, it’s hard to stay focused and understand what you’ve seen.
A.Reflect and appreciate
B.You don’t need more than an hour or two
C.Pick a museum that is related to your interests
D.Instead, allow yourself to feel how the art makes you feel
E.The free associations will help create emotional reactions in you

This past summer, I joined my sister's family for their annual Adirondack vacation in a rented cottage on a lake, the same place my family has stayed since I was a little kid. There are plenty of activities to keep everyone busy: swimming, fishing and sand castle building on the beach.
By the third day, I had noticed that my ten-year-old niece, Jannie, had spent most of her time watching cable TV and browsing through the gift shops in town. Not exactly the wilderness experience I remembered from my youth. So, at dinner, I told Jannie we should hike to the top of the mountain across the lake the following morning, which was called Rocky Point because the peak is bare and rock-covered.
"Well." replied Jannie, "Tomorrow there are some shows on the Disney Channel, so I'm going to be pretty busy."
"When your mother and I used to come here when we were your age, we were too busy swimming and hiking up mountains."
"Sounds more like punishment than a vacation." She shrugged her shoulders. "Besides, I don't think I can walk that far."
When I said it only took a half-hour of steady walking to get to the top. She grumbled, "Fine, I'll go." I knew she was agreeing just to shut me up, but I would take anything I could get.
The next morning was a perfect day for a hike, with sunshine and clear skies. I got up early and took some sandwiches and water bottles, which I tucked into my backpack along with the bug spray and the camera.
Jannie came shuffling downstairs, sighed dramatically, rolled her eyes and announced in a very unenthusiastic, robot-like voice. "I'm ready to go hiking, Uncle David." Anyway, we climbed into my car and drove to the trailhead about ten minutes away. As we stood at the edge of the parking lot and looked down the shaded trail that led into the woods. "I am still not sure this is a good idea, but if you and Mom could do it, I can
too, I guess."

We can’t deny that it is common to see some uncivilized practices in our school, like people speaking loudly in a library or a classroom and wasting food without restraint.

Besides, it would also be sensible to put up more banners of encouragement to act good deeds, which can arouse students’ awareness to spread the beneficial habits.
As a teenager of the new era, let’s act jointly to make the glory of civilization shine in every corner of our school.

67.One possible version:
For the moment she was determined to start our journey. About 200 yards into the forest, the trail began to climb a steep slope. I pointed out some rarely-seen trees and flowering plants, which I explained were endangered species. She didn’t share my enthusiasm. She was thirsty, tired, sweaty and bored. I handed her the water bottle as she sat on a fallen log and took a break. “You know, I think we’re almost to the top,” I told her. “You already said that three times, and we’re not there yet.” she replied. She grumbled another complain as we continued on. She might not have been happy, but at least I was proud that she had the determination not to quit before we reached the top.
A while later we did make it to the top. Jannie looked up, noticing we were no longer under the trees. When she stopped, looked around and saw where we were, her jaw dropped, her eyes opened wide and she shouted: “Oh, I don’t believe it. We’re on top of the world. It’s awesome!” A refreshing breeze brushed the mountaintop, not a cloud was in the sky and miles and miles of trees and lakes spread out below us. We sat on a large rock and took it in the view, while eating our sandwiches and pointing out islands and roads and, of course, the cottage where we were staying. It had taken us almost an hour to make the climb, but it was worth it.
