Dear Anxiety,
I’m sorry to know that you are experiencing a tough time now. Actually, everyone seems to have one of those periods when they are under great pressure, so there is no need to worry too much.
In my opinion, sharing your feelings with your friends is a wise choice as you can remove your negative emotions. Another effective suggestion is that you should take more physical exercise, which can lift your spirit. Also, keep an optimistic attitude towards life about your future.
I hope my advice will be of benefit to you. May you get rid of your trouble soon.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
八、续写
When we finally reached our house, Mom opened the front door. I smelt a roast cooking and knew there'd be hot baked potatoes to go with it. As I stepped inside, she opened her arms wide and I fell into them. Dad was right behind me and put his arms around both of us. Ordinarily, I'd pull away, but this time I didn't. They both released me a few moments later, and that's when I saw the tears in Mom's eyes. I lowered my head and blinked twice really fast, trying to hide my own tears. I made a promise to myself not to hurt them like that again. They were doing the best they could. I knew the changes I had to make wouldn't take place overnight, but as I looked at my parents and felt the warmth in my house, I realized there's no place like home.

【原文】M: Good afternoon everyone. Before we start today’s lecture, I’d like to talk to you about your second paper because as you know if you’ve read the course outline, it’s worth 60% of your grade. Yes, 60%, so it’s obviously quite important and you should start thinking about it now. I know that on the course outline it says that both the first and second papers are 2.500 words long. That was true for the first paper but this one should be about 1,500 words longer. As far as the due date goes, the deadline is in six weeks, at the end of May. Throughout the term we’ve discussed several ancient civilizations but the theme of your second paper is women in ancient Rome. There are several areas you can focus on for your paper. Some of you have expressed an interest in writing about the status and role of these women but I want you to focus more. For example, you could look at their education and how this affected their role in society. Or you could consider their achievements in literature at that time. There are many possibilities, so I want you to start deciding on your topic and have it approved by either myself or one of the teachers by next Friday. If you have any questions, see me after class. Alright, let’s get back to our lesson.杭州市西湖高级中学2024年4月高一英语测试卷

Few people have achieved fame for coming in last place. That is why Michael Edwards, or “Eddie the Eagle”, became a rather unexpected hero. Unlike most athletes, Eddie did not come to the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games for a medal. He came simply to compete. In doing so, he realized his dream.
At first, Eddie tried to make the British national ski team but failed. Then he chose the riskiest event, ski jumping. No British skier had ever competed in that sport, but having no competitors meant that Eddie had a better chance of qualifying (取得资格) for the 1988 Olympic. Games. It also meant there was no support for him. Eddie had no coach, equipment, or financial support, but what he had was determination. Not afraid of what he lacked, Eddie set out to learn his chosen sport, training himself for nearly 2 years. And he managed to meet the qualification for Olympic ski jumping, and landed himself in the 1988 Olympic Games. Eddie was determined to compete, and while he came in last, he did manage to land his jumps, and he still holds the British record in that ing in last place actually made him the star of the Olympics and the true embodiment (化身) of the Olympic spirit.

NatureScot, an organisation that looks after Scotland’s natural world, has agreed to release(放出) Scottish wildcats into the UK’s largest national park.
About 60 wildcats have been raised at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig. They will be released in June into an area of the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands. Researchers will monitor the cats through GPS, tracking their movements as they live in their new home.
Wildcats already live in the Cairngorms, but researchers say they are under threat from extinction because of habitat loss and disease. Wildcats look a bit like pet cats but they are about twice the size and have thicker fur. They have longer legs and their ears are more sticked out to the side.
Wildcats were once found in England and Wales too, but they were hunted for their fur and lost a lot of their natural habitat because of human activity. They haven’t been seen in the wild outside Scotland for more than 100 years. However, another protection programme is planning to release around 40 of the animals into secret countryside locations in Cornwall, in southern England. Wildcats hunt small animals, so wildlife experts are hoping that the cats will keepdown the numbers of rabbits and mice, which damage young trees and crops such as corn, fruit and wheat.
The Scottish wildcats will be released in a part of the park called Caimgorms, where experts are working to restore(恢复) woodland areas. The plan is for as many as 20 cats to be set free every year, and it is hoped that other sites in Scotland will be considered too. Dr Helen from Saving Wildcats said, “The fight to restore Scotland’s wildcat populations is just beginning.”
28. How will researchers keep an eye on the released wildcats

C. By observing their new home. D. By controlling their movements.
29. Why are wildcats going to be released to the national park
A. They are being hunted by human beings.
B. They need a new home due to habitat loss.
C. They can catch animals damaging the environment.

30. What does Dr Helen say about wildcats
A. It is difficult to restore wildcats’ habitat.
B. Wildcats will begin to fight with humans.
C. The number of wildcats has greatly increased.
D. There is a long way to go to increase wildcat populations
31. Which of the following is the best title for the text

John Keats was an English poet, whose poetry described the beauty of the natural world and art as the vehicle for his poetic imagination. Regarded as one of the English language’s most naturally gifted poets, John Keats wrote poetry that concentrated on imagination, human nature, and philosophy. Although Keats didn’t receive much formal literary education, his own studies and great interest brought him much success. Besides, his own life situation made a great difference to his poetry.
Growing up as a young kid in London in a lower, middle-class family, the young John didn’t attend a private school, but went to public school in Enfield, near his home. His teachers and his family’s friends regarded him as a positive boy who liked playing and fighting much more than minding his studies. After his father’s death in the early 1800s, followed by his mother’s passing away due to illness, he began to view life differently. He wanted to escape the world and did so by reading anything he could get his hands on.
At around the age of 16, John Keats began studying under a surgeon so that he too might become a doctor. However, his love for literature had taken too much of his time, especially with his addiction to the poetry of Edmund Spenser. Within two months in 1817, Keats had written an entire volume (册) of poetry that would be published, but was attacked sharply in Blackwood’s Magazine. However, it didn’t stop him.
John Keats’ next work to be published was Endymion, which he wrote in 1817 and was published in May 1818. The story tells a boy who falls in love with the moon goddess and leads him to an adventure of one boy’s hope to overcome the limitations of being human. Following Endymion, he wrote Isabella. His next work was Hyperion that would attempt to combine all he learned. However, an attack of tuberculosis (肺结核) while visiting Italy kept him from his work and took his life in 1821.
32. What changed John Keats’ attitude towards life
A. The poetry of Edmund Spenser. B. His early education at school.
C. The criticism from a magazine. D. The death of his parents.
33. What do we know from the text
A Keats spent two months writing a poem in 1817.
B. Keats hardly received education at school.
C. Keats had admiration for Edmund’s poetry.
D. Endymion tells of Keats’ love story.
34. What can be inferred from the text

C. Keats’ family must be very poor. D. Keats rewrote his poem Isabella.
35. What is the text mainly about
A. Popularity of Keats’ poetry. B. Keats’ difficulties in his whole life.

"I hate you!" I shouted, as I ran up the stairs to my room. I pulled out a clean T-shirt and jeans, threw them in my backpack and ran back down the steps. Mom and Dad stood there, looking like they were in shock.
"Where are you going " Mom asked.
"Anywhere but here," I shouted as I ran out the door. They weren't fast enough to hold me, and I disappeared into the night. It was cold, but my hot temper (脾气) warmed me, and I didn't feel it.
I hit the streets and a free ride wasn't safe, but I didn't care. Deep down inside, I knew my parents loved me, but it wasn't enough. I slept on a park bench the first night. It was hard as a rock, and I was surprised to find that I wasn't alone. Peeking through half-closed eyes, I could see other homeless people just like me, only they looked like they'd been there a long, long time.
By the end of the second day, I'd made my way to another city sixty-five miles away where I found a halfway house for runaways. I was tired, cold and hungry. By the time I got there, the kitchen was closed. All that was left on the table was a cold potato. I lifted it to my lips and bit into the skin. It was dry and stuck in my throat when I tried to eat it up. That night I slept on a small bed in a room with four other runaways. It wasn't a whole lot better than the park.
Three days later, my dad showed up at the front door of the halfway house. I don't know how he found out I was there, but part of me was glad he did, though I wouldn't admit it out loud. After gathering my few things, we drove home in silence. I could see by the look on his face that he felt responsible for all my anger and sadness. I regretted shouting at my parents the night I ran away.
注意:1. 续写词数应为 100 左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
When we finally reached our house, Mom opened the front door.
