课题 Unit4 Sharing (Using Language(2): Reading and Writing)
教学目标
In this class, students will 1. obtain more information about the aid of a China’s medical team to Tanzania in Africa through a speech; learn to analyze the features of the speech; write a speech about China’s aid to other countries.
教学内容
教学重点: 1. help students to analyze the structure of a speech; beginning ,body and ending.
2. help students to conclude the features of the speech: the use of rhetorical question, narrate personal story, appeal to people to take action
教学难点: 1. help students to come up with the topic of their own speech which relates to their life.
2. help students to apply what they’ve learned to their own speech writing.
教学过程
I. Lead-in: Brainstorming When you write a speech transcript, which aspects should be taken into consideration * target audience and the purpose of the speech * proper topic * structure * supporting examples * language 【设计目的】:基于课前预习作业:观看Emma Watson联合国演讲和“21世纪杯”全国英语演讲比赛,检查课前任务的完成度和课前背景知识的了解。 II. Analyze an example of a speech transcript about China’s aid to other countries 1. analyze the content 1) Introduction to China Aid (logo,aim,work,etc.) 2) List some examples of the work that Chinese people do to help others overseas * Chinese workers: build roads in the Congo, a port in Pakistan, railways in Panama and an airport in Sri Lanka * Chinese miners, oil workers agricultural experts, mechanics and doctors work in every corner of the world. 3) Why has Bingbing’s mother working in Tanzania for the last two years His mother is a medical doctor and has been working as a volunteer consultant in Tanzania, as a part of a medical team sent by the Chinese government. 4) What are some of the problems people face in Tanzania □ regional conflicts shortage of supplies dangerous diseases □ no hospitals □ extreme climate poverty 5) What are Bingbing’s mother and her team helping with Her mother Help to build a cardiac hospitalDo a circuit of the rural villages to provide medical treatment, help those with disabilities, and provide consultation and training for local doctors.Her team Give patients a new malaria treatment invented in China
【设计目的】:让学生对“中国对外援助”有初步的了解;通过个人故事,从小的切入点了解中国医疗对外援助的必要性和重要性,对学生自己的写作提供内容上的指导。 2. analyze the features of the speech 1) the topic raised by a rhetorical question: is it worth it 2) What does the speaker use to get her message across □ a case study □ a hypothetical(假设的)example □ a joke personal story □ an analysis of the history and causes of the issue □ facts and data 3) Why does the speaker use personal story in her speech * real and vivid * convincing and impressive The speaker usually integrates his/her own feelings and attitudes into the speech. Change of Bingbing’s feelings and attitudes: * When my mother first left for Africa, I was upset. * So I was unhappy about her leaving without even asking for my input. * Now I am singing a different tune. * I’ m proud of the work my mother has done and I am now supportive of it. 4) What’s the answer to the rhetorical question in the last paragraph Is her work worth it Yes, the work is worth it to the lives of the people she’s helping and to us all. 5) How does the speech end Now that I understand how important my mother’s work is. * I’ve decided to become a volunteer myself to help people in other lands. * In the future, I pray that you will do the same. Write a speech about China’s aid to other countries 1. In group of four, brainstorm a list of possible causes that you could talk about. * infrastructure construction * disaster relief * covid-19 prevention and treatment aid * education (Language teaching, Traditional Chinese Medicine) 2. In pairs, go over the list and discuss these points: * Which, if any, of the causes do you have a personal connection with * What personal story could you tell in relation to that cause * How did that affect your opinions on the issue * What rhetorical question could you use to begin your speech * What is the answer to that rhetorical question * What action do you want people to take as a result of your speech 【设计目的】:让学生在文本的分析指导下,为自己的写做好充分的准备。 IV. Homework * When finishing the draft, exchange your draft with a partner and revise the draft according to your partner’s comments. * Practise presenting your speech.
