V. Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Leading-in
Play a short video for the students to introduce the topic, friendship. Then, brainstorm why friendships are important to us.
Introduce the author, Francis Bacon , and his works.
Step 2 Fast reading
Ask Students to go through the passage quickly and find the topic sentence of each paragraph. Then, choose the best structure of the passage. Analyse the topic sentence.
Step 3 Detailed reading
Read the passage again and finish three tasks one by one.

Ask students to read paragraph 2 and find the three fruits of friendships and their functions.
