The knowledge of this unit can also broaden students’ international horizons and increase the knowledge of the fashion market and fashion promotion.

The fashion market can be subdivided in a number of ways depending on what aspect of the market or industry is being analyzed. Regardless of where you sell your fashion products, you’ll need to decide on a market level for your brand. This will influence the materials and technolgies you choose, price of the fashion product and service quality.

high street:used to describe clothes that can be bought in ordinary shops in ordinary cities and towns, rather than being specially made by fashion designers
custom-made: specially made for a particular person.

[1] The term “haute couture” is protected by law and governed by very strict rules set by the Chamber Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris. To be classifi ed as a bona fi de haute couturier a fashion house must create made-to-order garments for private clients.
Chamber Syndicale de la Haute Couture 指法国巴黎的高级时装协会,引用法语表达方式;bona fi de 为拉丁语,形容词,意为“真实的;真诚的”,常用于书信等正式文件。

[3] A designer or fashion brand that has established itself within the high-end market may decide to introduce a secondary diffusion line, as it is known in the United States, so that they can extend their brand into the middle market.

[4] At this level of the market, terminology can become slightly confusing as “high street”, “fast fashion” and “mass market” are descriptions also used in reference to British retailers Primark and New Look, French’s Kiabi.

[6] This has led to the pre-season collections—resort and pre-fall. Resort hits stores in November and is aimed at customers heading for warmer climes during the winter, but also those who live in the southern hemisphere. Pre-fall, arriving in store for May, offers transseasonal products, usually in lightweight materials but in colors that give a foretaste of the Autumn/Winter season to come.
