There’s a small brick house I visit from time to time. It’s not the house that is, special, but rather the person who lives inside,
I met Jenny about 45 years ago when she was my sister’s kindergarten teacher. I remember looking into her classroom, wishing I were her student. Jenny created a safe place where we could be whatever we wanted to be during the time. My parents told me I could start school when I was 4. However, when I turned 4iin the spring, I couldn’t understand why I had to wait until: September. For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a teacher. When I graduated, I couldn’t wait to invite Jenny to my classroom. She arrived one day, and I saw joy on my students’ faces when they sang the same songs I sang with her as a child. As a new teacher, I was amazed at how she connected with children. For years, Jenny volunteered in my classroom.
Over the years we have shared each other’s ups and downs. She asks me for updates about my family and friends, and she tells me about hers.
I am here for her no was the time to sell her house is near. I bring up boxes from her basement. We go through every painting a student has given to her, every thank-you note a parent has written and her teaching aids. I find papers featuring the letters of the alphabet. I find my own name printed in a green card. Suddenly, my mind goes back to Room 3. More than 40 years ago, Jenny sat on the carpet at her feet. We learned about the letters and their sounds.
Now, Jenny sits on her rocking chair, and I find myself sitting at her feet. Over tea, we talk for hours. I listen carefully because I know I still have more to learn from her.
Our friendship is one that neither one of us expected. Educators know teaching is a profession devoted to the development of young individuals. The lucky ones get to see what their students have done with their lives. The exceptional ones never leave their students’ hearts.
24. How can we best describe Jenny
A. Skilled in her teaching but impatient with her students sometimes.
B. Considerate and often paying a visit to the parents of her students.
C. Easy-going and good at communicating with her students.
D. Generous and ready to help poor students.
25. What can we infer about the author and her teacher from the text?
A. They are unwilling to visit each other.
B. They usually have nothing new to share.
C. They are always concerned with each other.
D. They have lost contact with each other by now.
26. Why does the author take boxes from Jenny’s basement
A. Jenny’s house is to be sold.
B. Jenny wants to find her teaching aids.
C. Jenny expects to show her achievements in education.
D. Jenny intends to offer the papers with the letters to the author.
27. What kinds of educators can be called fortunate ones
A. Those who can be devoted to the development of young individuals.
B. Those who can see how their students experience their lives.
C. Those who can be appreciated for their hard work.
D. Those who can get in touch with their students.
C
For those of us who grew up watching Star Trek, exploring space has been about discovering strange new worlds. And there are plenty of worlds to explore in time, but we still need major technological advancements to reach planets that are light years away.
What we are doing in space today is providing unbelievable benefits right now, right here on Earth. From space, we can monitor, manage and care for our planet. Satellite-based sensors show us the short-and long-term, effects of human activity on our environment. Many companies are using their interest in space to help solve problems here, from using hyperspectral imaging(高光谱成像), which enable us to map vegetation(植被) and rain forests, to microsatellites that provide global connectivity for the network of things.
My company, One Web, is focusing on what I believe is one of the world’s most important issues: the need for equal access to the Internet. The Internet has become our economic lifeblood. And yet, nearly half of the world’s population doesn’t have Internet access. Space is playing a key role in bridging this digital divide. One Web is launching 1, 980 satellites to help bring Internet access to people everywhere, and our first production satellites are already flying in space and have shown very high download speeds.
Fiber and cable Internet access technologies already cover most financially viable(可行的)major cities. Similarly, these regions will also be the first to be served with 5G. Poor communities are the last to get connected, and without connectivity, those communities have no chance to lift themselves from poverty. One Web’s satellites will reach every community in the world and enable equal access to the Internet for the world’s less developed places.
Fifty years from the day when man first walked on the moon, we are still only approaching the possible. There will be tens of thousands of new satellites, space stations and factories in the coming years to bring advancements in communications, scientific research, monitoring the earth, exploring space and more. This is exciting, but we must take action carefully.
28. What is the second paragraph mainly about
A. Benefits space exploration can bring to us.
B. Problems space exploration leads to.
C. Steps of space exploration requires.
D. Equipment space exploration needs.
29. What is One Web aiming to do
A. Increase download speeds.
B. Narrow the gap in Internet learning.
C. Help people setup and maintain a website.
D. Enable people to make use of the Internet equally.
30. What can be inferred from the text
A. More than six decades ago, man first walked on the moon.
B. More than half of the world’s people have no access to the Internet.
C. One Web’s satellites will make it possible for most people to be served with 5G.
D. Without the Internet, poor communities can hardly help themselves out of poverty.
31. What will the writer probably continue to write about in the following paragraph
A. The risks of furthering space exploration.
B. The value of setting up space stations.
C. The way we could monitor our earth.
D. The features of microsatellites.

Several years ago, I started riding a bike. At first, I thought it was only a short ride. But as I built up my strength, my friends inspired me to try some longer trips. The first one to come along was a 150-mile journey, an event held every year that raises money to fight cancer.
With my name 56 (sign), the idea seemed great. It was to support a worthy cause when we went for the distance. Of course, I should devote 57 . I to such a cause. And I trained with great excitement. But as the time for the ride approached, myself-doubt gained ground against my endurance(耐力). I didn’t really want to bicycle all those miles for two days straight.
The ride began on a Sunday morning in the Georgia countryside: There were a number of strong riders. For the first few hours, I felt wonderful. This was just the experience I had imagined, and my spirits were high. There were not many vehicles on the way. But by the end of the day, I had felt 58 (extreme) tired. I was sure I would give up before I reached the destination.
As I was riding to the top of the hill, the very 59 (fantasy) sunset which appealed to me so much kept me going for a few minutes more, I said to myself, “So far I 60 (cover) half of the distance. That is enough.” Then in the distance, I saw alone(独自的) rider riding very slowly. I noticed that the person looked different in tin some way, but I couldn’t tell the reason 61 that person was different. I was fast enough 62 (catch) up with her. There she was, riding slowly but steadily, with a determined smile on her face—but she had only one leg. I thoughts he 63 have trained hard before because she was so skilled in riding the bike, She was a 64 (represent) of people with strong determination.
Then I took my attitude 65 account. My focus changed at that moment. I’d been doubting my body for a whole day. But now I knew—it wasn’t the body, but the will that would help me reach my goal. I ought to finish the long and hard trip.

She spent just $26 on her first flashlight, which won at the Google Science Fair in 2013. In 2016, she was chosen as the Popular Science Young Inventor of the Year. 第一节
One possible version:
Dear John,
I’m writing to inform you that I am notable to go hiking with you this Saturday due to my illness, for which I really feel so sorry.
Honestly speaking, I have been looking forward to going hiking with you for a long time. However, I have unexpectedly caught a cold, which causes me to have a high fever and suffer a lot. So I’m afraid I can’t keep the appointment with you as scheduled. Hopefully, we can make another appointment after I have fully recovered. Please accept my heartfelt apology!
Looking forward to your early reply!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
This card mattered a lot to us. I wanted this to be a teachable moment for David. I asked David if he was ready to forgive Cherry. After all, his opinion counted the most. He thought about it for a moment, smiled and said, “Yes.” He knew Cherry hadn’t done it on purpose. Children are so friendly and so honest. They don’t hold on to anger like adults do sometimes. Their hearts are pure, so we wrote her a letter together, reading, “We know it was an unfortunate accident. We forgive you, and we hope you forgive yourself.” We asked David’s teacher to pass the letter to Cherry.
We wondered how Cherry would make a response after reading the letter. Later, David’s teacher told us Cherry was relieved after reading our letter. She was glad that David was feeling better and healing. David and Cherry both learned that forgiving someone was a part of healing and could release anger. The next time I showed up at David’s school, Cherry gave me a big hug. I hugged her back. We didn’t have to say anything else. We both knew forgiveness was the most important step to get healed.
