Dear Bill,
Knowing that you are interested in the Folk Song Festival, I’m writing to tell you something about it.
The Folk Song Festival, which is one of the most significant festivals in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, falls on the third day of the third lunar month every year. At this time of the year, Zhuang people will get together to celebrate the festival by holding various folk activities, including song fairs, bamboo pole dancing, steaming five-colored sticky rice and throwing embroidered balls. Besides, in some rural areas of Zhuang people, it is a day when people honour their ancestors, like what we do on Tomb Sweeping Day.
I hope you can come to experience our culture by yourself. You are sure to understand better about our tradition.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
Jeffrey anxiously rushed to his car and started the engine. Jeffrey set out for the bus station where he had kicked the girl out of the bus, hoping that the girl was still there. He sped up all the way, keeping an eye on the pedestrians on both sides of the road. Just within 15 minutes, he arrived at the bus station. Then in sight was the girl, still sitting there, weeping. Hardly had the car stopped when Jeffrey ran to the girl.
Jeffrey then asked the girl gently, “Did you escape from your home Where were you going ”. Looking up at Jeffrey, the girl recognized that Jeffrey was the bus driver and told him she wanted to visit her grandma. “But you shouldn’t have left home without telling your parents. They are so worried about you,” Jeffrey said, “Now, let me drive you home.” The girl stood up and followed Jeffrey to his car. Just then, a police car arrived, followed by another car. Out of the car rushed the girl’s parents who had received a phone call from Jeffrey’s wife and knew that their daughter might be at the bus station. The girl’s mother embraced her daughter firmly and the father showed his gratitude to Jeffrey and the policeman.

That’s it for the morning announcements. I hope everyone has a great Monday!
根据Trenchard Cox Scholarship部分中“All you have to do is write two 400-word reasoned descriptions: one on a work of art you love and one that you hate.(你所要做的就是写两篇400字的合理描述:一篇是关于你喜欢的艺术品,另一篇是你讨厌的艺术品)”可知,申请Trenchard Cox奖学金需要两篇400字的艺术作品文章。故选C。
根据最后一部分“Preference is given to those who show great interest in the advancement of girls and women.(优先考虑那些对女孩和妇女的发展表现出极大兴趣的人)”可知,致力于妇女教育的女学生最有可能获得AAUW Fellowships & Grants。
根据文章第二段“Australia’s dim sim story began in 1942, when Chinese-Australian businessman William Chen Wing Young realized elderly foreigners who had come to Australia to work during the gold rush were left jobless. “They were like leftovers from the goldfields days. They didn’t make it back home and were too old for heavy work.” says Chen. Meanwhile, Chen noticed how popular Cantonese dim sum had become in Australia. He considered if he could mass-produce siu mai, a steamed Chinese food, these men could sell them on food trucks.(澳大利亚的点心故事始于1942年,当时华裔澳大利亚商人陈永扬(William Chen Wing Young)意识到,在淘金热期间来澳大利亚工作的年长外国人失业了。
根据文章第三段“However, siu mai differed widely from Australian words and was too much of mouthful for Australian. Chen called it “dim sim” instead, which has the same meaning as dim sum, but in a different Canton dialect, and named the business Wing Lee.(然而,siu mai与澳大利亚的词汇差别很大,对澳大利亚人来说太拗口了。 故选A项。
根据文章第四段“Joe decided to deep fry it, as “that’s the only way you could cook it in fish and chip shop”. The next day, Joe rang, saying all his mates were asking where he got the dim sim. That caused Chen to make fried dim sim and develop other cooking ways. The results were an immediate hit, making Wing lee Dim Sim the first Chinese factory to commercialize a fast food for the masses.( Joe决定把它油炸,因为“这是你在炸鱼薯条店唯一能做的方法”。 故选A项。
根据第一段“Taste in music varies considerably, but whatever people enjoy listening to, they often report an emotional response that has a touch of the physical to it.(音乐的品味差异很大,但无论人们喜欢听什么,他们通常都会报告出一种与身体有关的情绪反应。)”
根据第三段“BW is not someone who doesn’t like art, Loui says. “He goes to museums. He’s an enthusiastic photographer. He likes good food. He likes long walks on the beach. He just doesn’t like music.”(BW并不是一个不喜欢艺术的人。 以及“He told Loui that when he saw a person at the grocery store with headphones in their ears dancing to music, he could never understand why anyone would do that.(他告诉路易,当他在杂货店看到一个人戴着耳机随着音乐跳舞时,他永远不明白为什么有人会这么做。)”
根据最后一段“If people who don’t love music have differences in specific systems in the brain, then that shows these specific systems are related to the love of music. Then we can examine what else engages these same systems and what other abilities or human capacities are linked to music.(如果不喜欢音乐的人大脑中的特定系统存在差异,那么这表明这些特定系统与对音乐的热爱有关。
根据第二段“By studying a rare person, named BW, who does not like or respond to music at all, psychologist Psyche Loui of Northeastern University has discovered that connectivity patterns in the brain link finding music rewarding with finding social interaction enjoyable.(东北大学的心理学家Psyche Loui通过研究一个罕见的完全不喜欢音乐或对音乐没有反应的人,发现大脑中的连接模式将发现音乐的奖励与发现社交互动的乐趣联系起来)”、倒数第二段“Given that music is important for social bonding across different cultures and that music is a way for the hearing system to connect to the reward system, one strong prediction is that music reward sensitivity can partially explain individual differences in sensitivity to social reward(鉴于音乐对不同文化之间的社会联系很重要,音乐是听觉系统与奖励系统连接的一种方式,一个强有力的预测是,音乐奖励敏感性可以部分解释个体对社会奖励敏感性的差异)”以及最后一段“This newly discovered connectivity between the hearing and reward systems may be why we feel emotions in response to music, Loui says. “I think that there’s a role of music for social bonding.”(Loui说,这种新发现的听觉和奖励系统之间的联系可能是我们对音乐产生情绪反应的原因。
根据第一段中的“A Swiss radio station recently carried out a social experiment on air, testing robot-created voices and content. The 13-hour experiment took place at the French-language station Couleur 3. During the period, listeners heard the cloned voices of five human presenters.
A. 故选A。
根据最后一段中的“The Swiss station’s chief, Antoine Multone, defended the project as a lesson on how to live with AI. Antoine said if we became ostriches(鸵鸟), we would put our heads in the sand. He thought when AI was coming, we should study the technology, so we could then properly put limits on it.
通读全文可知,第一段引出下文对人工智能的讨论,根据第一段首句“A Swiss radio station recently carried out a social experiment on air, testing robot-created voices and content. 故选A。

Consider what is mentioned below in planning.”(参观博物馆和避免“博物馆疲劳”有很多策略。 说明下面提到的策略有助于更好地参观博物馆,B项“You are sure to make the most of your experience.”(你一定能充分利用你的游览经历。)

上文“Object labels are placed next to many objects.”(对象标签被放置在许多对象旁边。)说明了对象标签放置的位置,G项“These aim to give information not always obvious about the artwork.”(这些都是为了提供关于艺术品并不总是显而易见的信息。)

Many museums have special tours, audioguides, or downloadable apps that point you to these objects.”(索要一张地图,或者让博物馆工作人员推荐馆藏或特别展览中的亮点。 说明在开始参观之前可以做的事情,C项“It’s always a good idea to stop by the information desk.”(在问讯处停下来总是个好主意。)
