One possible version:
Time flew by and the day of the talent show finally arrived. As I took my seat in the hall, I couldn’t help but
wonder if Emily had decided to show her talent. Anticipation filled the air as various acts took the stage, each one
leaving the audience in amazement. As the performances continued, my eyes eagerly scanned the crowd for a
glimpse of Emily. Just when I thought she might not participate, the spotlight shifted, and Emily stepped onto
stage, holding a violin in her hand. Excitement washing over me, I couldn’t wait to see her show.
The hall fell into silence as she began to perform. The notes formed a soft, sweet tune and then it turned
faster. The music stopped altogether before the tune returned. Emily ended the song with one hard, fast, loud note.
The hall fell completely silent until we realized the music was finished. Still in a half trance, the audience burst
into loud applause. I smiled to myself. Emily wasn’t just a “quiet girl”. She knew wonderful books and could play
the violin skillfully. Like a butterfly, she was beautiful and amazing when you looked closely.

听力原文
Text 1
W: I heard you went to New Jersey by plane last month and got airsick. This time drive by yourself for a change
M: I’m not sure. Actually, I have a license, but with zero real driving experience.
W: Taking a train ride won’t be a bad choice for you.
M: Good idea. (1)
Text 2
M: What were you doing when the accident happened
W: I was about to go to the drugstore across the street. I was in panic mode and couldn’t get things straight.
M: Take it easy, madam. We are appealing for witnesses to the crash. Could you provide more information
W: Sure.
Text 3
W: Is the meeting set for April 8th How about April 9th, at 10:00 a.m.
M: I had a chat with our technical manager yesterday. I intended to arrange it for 1:00 p.m. on April 10th, but
he said it should be advanced by two days.
W: Fine. He has the final say. (3)
Text 4
M: All those big windows made the flat so light and open that it was like a greenhouse as soon as it got warmer.
W: Definitely. From about 8 in the morning until 7 in the evening, it was like living in a sauna!
Text 5
M: It’s always difficult for a son to live up to the expectations of his parents, but your son Tom is an exception.
My daughter Ruth told me it took him only one day to make friends with his classmates at the new school.
(5)
W: They could play as they used to. After all, Ruth and Tom know each other well.
Text 6
M: Today we’re looking at the darker side of literature with some books about not-so-happy families. And we’ve
got Anna Kimura to talk us through them. (7)Welcome to our program, Anna.
W: Thank you, Ethan. I’m more than happy to be here.
M: First up, we’re looking at Her Mother’s Daughter by Alice Fitzgerald, a novel written from two points of view,
one of a child and the other of her very troubled mother. Anna, how did you find the book
W: I couldn’t put it down and stayed up until three in the morning to finish it. (7) You’d never want to be in
that family yourself, but that’s what reading is about. Wearing someone else’s shoes for a while without ever
having to live their reality.
M: That’s true. Can you describe for listeners what the book is about
Text 7
M: Jean, hi!
W: Hi, Dave. Wait a second, you’re back now, aren’t you
M: Yeah, I got back two days ago.
W: Oh good. Because I wouldn’t want to be calling you long distance.
M: Really You spent a fortune on long-distance calls to talk to clients in Vancouver. Actually, I wouldn’t
answer the phone call from Manchester while I was in other countries. But no worries, we’re in the
same city now. (8)
W: Yeah. Did you meet your long-lost Uncle George
M: I did. I flew to Toronto and stayed with him for four days. He lives outside of downtown Toronto, in a
village by a lake, which made me record his cottage life. (9) And then I spent three days touring around the

city.
W: I’m dying to see the short videos you shot. (9) Could we meet up soon Or are you too jet-lagged still
M: I’m well rested. Actually I’m free tomorrow if you like. (10)

Those big online spenders are “silver-haired people”, that is, women over 55 years old. (11)
M: What a surprise. I thought young women were big online spenders.
W: I can’t imagine this happening in the past. It was risky to shop online. People worried that the products
wouldn’t arrive on time.
M: But now people are talking about the explosion of Internet shopping.
W: Yes, indeed. What do people buy Just about anything. I just bought a kitchen table last Sunday.
M: Well, I am no exception. Last Saturday, (12) a dishwasher took my fancy and I paid about 600 pounds for it.
Then the next day, I purchased two bottles of face cream for my mom. (12)
W: You’re really a more adventurous online shopper than me. You know what Last year, the UK female
consumers spent more on clothes, groceries, health products, etc., while the male consumers spent more
on electrical appliances, records, and DIY tools. (13)
Text 9
W: Hi David, this is Sarah.
M: Hi Sarah.
W: What are you doing

concert. (15) Oops, I left my camera at school.(17)
M: Why don’t you use your cell phone to take photos
W: Well, I don’t think cell phones do a good job. I am eager to take some really nice pictures. You know, the
photography competition will be held next month. I hope my work will be selected for the prize.
M: Wish you good luck. Anyway, have you seen Jessica today Maybe we can ask her. You two share a
common interest in photography. (17)
Text 10
M: You are watching the evening news. This is Steven Johnson. The winter storm dumped about 30
centimeters in some parts of British Columbia. The day-long storm caused schools to shut down, due to a power
cut in Southwestern BC. Now the cleanup gets underway. Some flights out of Vancouver were delayed and
canceled. The authorities are warning people to stay off the roads due to dangerous driving conditions,
reschedule their day and continue on their journey after the snow stops. (18) The snow has coated cars, roads,
trees and cut power. At least three people died in Portland after a power pole fell on their vehicle. (19) Seven
others died from falling trees. On a different note, Super Nintendo World just opened its doors here at
Universal Studios Hollywood. Super Mario, the video game beloved by millions over four decades, is now
