Show the invitation of the classmates’ party and introduce Bob. Listen and lead into the topic.Before Listening Before the party: 1.Show the pictures of Bob, Mario, Amy and Tina and guide students to describe them now and four years ago. Ask students to complete the chart in 1a. 2.Present the new structure “used to”. Review and describe four people in 1a. Learn to use “used to” to describe people.While listening 1.Ask students to listen and fill in the blanks: Bob is seeing some friends for the first time in four years. What did his friends use to look like Check and make a conclusion: They have all changed in appearance (height, hair and wearing glasses). During the party: I.Paula’s changes 1. Ask students to listen to the greeting part and answer: ①Who are they in the picture ②What is the girl like from her greeting 2.Then ask students to listen and check the words in 2a. 3.Ask students to listen again and complete Paula’s changes in 2b. Before listening, ask students to look carefully and predict what can be put in the blanks. While listening, ask students to take notes quickly by first writing down the first or first two letters of each word. 4.After listening, ask students to make a conclusion about Paula’s changes and think about those that have never changed. 5.Ask students to retell Paula’s changes with their partners. II. Billy’s changes 1.Show the picture of Billy and ask students to predict his personality. 2.Ask students to listen and answer the following questions: ①Who is he ②What is he like now ③What did he use to be 3.Read the conversation and check the answer. 4.Ask students to make a conclusion about Billy’s changes. 5.Ask students to listen and repeat. Pay attention to those exclamation marks which can help to show feelings. 6.Ask students to role play the conversation with their partners. Listen and fill in the blanks. Predict Paula’s personality through her greeting. Listen and check the words in 2a. Listen again and complete Paula’s changes in 2b. Make a conclusion about Paul’s changes and learn from her. Retell Paula’s changes with the partner. Predict Billy’s changes from the picture. Listen and take notes to answer the questions. Read the conversation and check the answers. Listen and repeat. Role play the conversation with the partner.4.After Listening After the party: 1.Ask students to talk about their own changes and changes of people around them in appearance, personality and hobbies by using “used to”. 2.Ask students to assess themselves according to the objectives. Talk about the changes with the partner. Reflect and assess themselves.5.Homework Level 1: Listen and imitate 2d. Retell Paula and Billy’s changes. Level 2: Listen and imitate 2d.
