J. K. Rowling frequently shows there is magic every day. Her Harry Potter series has helped people through times of stress and depression and she is always there to deliver wise words of encouragement.
She is one celebrity who is very active on Twitter. So when a single dad named Matt Burke sent her a message thanking her for the series, she noticed. Her series had helped strengthen his relationship with his 9 year old daughter Bailey.
He included a link to his article titled Being a Broke Parent. He explained how he hadn’t found a level of financial stability that allowed him to pay bills on time and take his daughter on more activities and events. The family also doesn’t have the Internet or TV, which means there’s no “digital babysitter” and he has to rely on his own creative ways to bond with his daughter. Since he received the series, the main thing that has occupied them these days is reading books together.
Burke admits that he thought he was “too cool” for the books when they first came out and he was in his twenties, but he’s loving reading them now. “We switch off chapter by chapter reading them out loud,“Burke explains.”This not only allows her to get more used to reading aloud in front of someone, but it gets me directly involved in something she loves, and it gives me the chance to be very dramatic when I read my chapters and bring myself into the characters in the book, which has proven to be a ton of fun.”
After hearing Burke’s story, Rowling said how honored she was when Harry Potter was a part of his family’s life and offered Burke more books. Besides, people are also offering to send Burke more books as gifts. For Burke, this experience, far more than gifts, will be what he treasures.

26.Which word can best describe Burke’s experience according to the text

27.What is the main idea of this text

D.Burke comes to know J.K.Rowling through her series.

For decades sleep scientists have thought over the link between dreaming and creative inspiration. They have long thought the insight came from the stage of rapid eye movement sleep, which is rich with dreams and begins around 90 minutes after one falling asleep. But new evidence puts the spotlight on a much earlier phase — the period that separates sleep and wakefulness. In a study by MIT, researchers show that people who take brief naps (小睡) that bring about the beginning of sleep score higher on several measures of creativity than those who undertake the tasks after staying awake.
The findings suggest researchers could even exercise some measure of control over the dreaming process by directing people's dreams toward a specific topic. The more frequently people dreamed about that, the more creative they were on tasks related to it. “We can come to the conclusion that dreaming about a topic enhances your subsequent creativity on it,” says Robert Stickgold, a member of the study team.
The experiment took advantage of a glovelike sleep detector, which charts sleep by monitoring one's muscle tone, skin conductance and heart rate through contacts on the wrist and hand. It communicates with an app that issues voice prompts (提示) for dreams and records dream reports.
More than one famous thinker has capitalized on the phase called non-rapid eye movement sleep stage 1,or N1, illustrating the point about generating creative insights. The painter Salvador Dalí would deliberately nap, holding a set of keys above a metal plate, when thinking over an idea for a painting. As he nodded off, he'd drop the keys, which would hit the plate and wake him up, and he'd hold onto the image from his dream. Thomas Alva Edison is said to have used a similar technique with metal balls to gain insights.
“It's exciting because, in principle, people could use the technology themselves to develop creativity,” says Jonathan Schooler, a professor of psychological and brain sciences at the University of California. There seems to be no shortage of folks coming to try it. “So many different kinds of people have visited, knocking on the lab door and asking to have dreams,” co-lead investigator Haar Horowitz says.
28.Which phase boosts creative ideas according to the study
A.The initial sleep stage.
B.The middle of the sleep cycle.
C.The wakefulness after sleep.
D.The rapid eye movement sleep stage.
29.What do the findings mentioned in paragraph 2 show
A.Physical changes reflect the sleep phase.
B.Dream contents relate to real life.
C.Creativity levels vary with the nap length.
D.The theme of the dream can be guided.
30.What does the underlined word “charts” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Encourages. B.Improves. C.Tracks. D.Influences.
31.Why are Salvador Dalí and Thomas Alva Edison mentioned
A.To prove the effect of dreams.
B.To provide support for the findings.
C.To interpret the benefits of N1.
D.To give examples of fueling creativity.

I’m used to seeing small leaps in technological progress, but occasionally, there are things that will still shock me. At the end of last year, a company called OpenAI released a truly jaw-dropping demonstration of a new AI technology that feels almost like technology has skipped ahead by a few generations.
This new AI technology is called ChatGPT, a computer program that can understand and respond to human language. It is trained on a lot of text, so it can understand what people are saying and respond in a way that sounds like a real person. What’s even more amazing is that ChatGPT seems frighteningly human in its ability to understand questions and answer them competently. “Write a story about Leonardo da Vinci in the style of Roald Dahl,” you can ask it, and it’ll spin up a pretty good children’s story.
One area where I’ve found ChatGPT to be enormously useful is its ability to write computer code. This has particularly amazed me as unlike the English language, when you write code it has to be very precise and carefully structured – but when I asked it to write me a program that would put some data into a database for me, in a particularly complex way, within seconds it generated something that would have taken me hours to do manually (人工地).
ChatGPT isn’t completely human, however. For example, it sometimes generates things that sound true, but are actually just nonsense. This is because of the way the AI learns through pattern recognition. There’s no real intelligence operating there – it is just repeating something based on what it has “read” before. ChatGPT is better at some tasks than others: it can write a brilliant invitation email, but its ability to rhyme leaves a lot to be desired.
And this is why I’m pretty convinced that ChatGPT is going to change the world, sooner rather than later. It’s already hugely impressive, but what exists at the moment is just a demonstration. Once the same AI is built into other apps and can connect to the live internet to learn more, it will become even more sophisticated. Our computers will no longer be just our word processors, but our writing partners too.
32.What can we learn about ChatGPT from the second paragraph
A.It can talk to people with emotion.
B.It seems like having a conversation with a real person.
C.It is unable to generate original content.
D.What it can do frightens many people.
33.Which aspect about ChatGPT’s ability to generate responses does the author feel to be particularly useful
A.Its efficiency. B.Its precision. C.Its structure. D.Its diversity.
34.What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about
A.AI cannot think the same way as humans do.
B.There’s no real intelligence in the world.
C.ChatGPT has some limitations.
D.ChatGPT is better than other chatbot AI.
35.What is the author’s attitude toward ChatGPT
A.Optimistic. B.Worried. C.Doubtful. D.Conservative.

Health is wealth. 36 Here are some ways to prevent diseases and take care of yourself so you can live your healthiest, best life.
37
A study published in 2019 concluded that consumption of more than 4 servings of extra-processed food was associated with a 62% increased danger for all-cause deaths. For each additional serving, all-cause deaths increased to 18%. These foods can cause chronic inflammation (慢性炎症), a normal bodily process that can contribute to heart disease, diabetes and even cancer.
Get your cholesterol (胆固醇) checked.
When checking your cholesterol, your test results will show your cholesterol levels in milligrams per decilitre. It’s crucial to get your cholesterol checked because your doctor will be able to advise you on how to maintain healthy levels. 38
Watch your blood pressure.
39 Having high blood pressure puts you at risk for heart disease and stroke, which are leading causes of death in the United States. Even small weight loss can help manage or prevent high blood pressure in many overweight people.
Get up and get moving.
Throw away any common misconceptions about exercising like that it has to be in a gym or a structured environment. 40 Taking 10, 000 steps a day is a popular goal because research has shown that when combined with other healthy behaviors, it can lead to a decrease in chronic illness like diabetes, metabolic syndrome and heart disease. Exercise does not need to be done in consecutive (连续的) minutes. You can walk for 30 to 60 minutes once a day or you can do activities two to three times a day in 10 to 20 minute increments.
A.Watch your body mass.
B.Make healthy food choices.
C.Frequency, intensity and time are what matter most.
D.Sleep restores us and has a huge effect on how we feel.
E.In turn it lowers your chances of getting heart disease and stroke.
F.Normal blood pressure is defined as blood pressure <120/80 mmHg.
G.This common saying holds a lot of weight because it has truth behind it.

第二节(满分25 分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
When Dylan was in high school, he moved to the United States with his mother, Khadine, and his twin younger brothers. The family hoped that their new home would allow them to start over and find success. However, their dream didn't work out exactly as they imagined it would.
Life as a single mother supporting three kids is incredibly difficult. Worse still, Khadine had a particularly difficult time after her twin sons had been diagnosed(诊断) with serious heart conditions. As a result, the boys required special care. As Khadine had to work three jobs to support her family financially, it became Dylan's responsibility to look after his young brothers. To relieve Mom's stress, Dylan earned some money by taking care of his neighbors' lawns(草坪).
While Dylan never considered his family to be a burden to him, seeing his mother and brothers become weak made him determined to plan his future out correctly. He believed education was the only way out of their struggle, so he made a promise to his mother that he would be the first one in the family to go to college.
For that promise, Dylan made use of each and every minute to study while looking after his brothers.
He soon became an honor student at Henry High School and took several advanced classes to keep his grades up. The College of New Jersey was his top choice. He was determined to put that admission letter in his mother's hands.
However, weeks before Dylan's college entrance exam, both his family and his determination were tested again when Khadine fell ill and was unable to work for a while. Soon, the bills became unmanageable and the house owner evicted(驱逐) Dylan's family after Khadine couldn't pay the rent. The family had no choice but to live in the shelter. The place wasn't an ideal place to study. It was often noisy and crowded, and the lights would go out at 11 p. m.
注意: 1 .续写词数应为 150 个左右;
2 .请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
But Dylan continued to follow his dream.

Dear teachers and my fellow students,
Good morning. I am Li Hua. Much honored to deliver a speech on behalf of Senior Two students here, I would like to share my humble opinions on how to better adapt to Senior Two life.
It is certain that the coming year is laden with difficulties and challenges. With in total six major subjects to work on, chances are that we will frequently feel a shortage of time. Besides, the highly intense study life is likely to cause stress and anxiety, which leads to low efficiency and even health problems.
Faced with these possible obstacles, we need a detailed study schedule to maximize our efficiency. Meanwhile, it’s necessary to occasionally take off the burden, get enough exercise and relax. I’m now determined to reach for the stars and firmly believe that as long as we are mentally and physically prepared, we can manage study life perfectly.
Thank you for listening.
But Dylan continued to follow his dream. During his time at the shelter, Dylan continued taking care of the lawns after school. He then hurried back to the shelter at 9 p. m. so that he could do his homework for two hours before the lights were off and look after his brothers. The noise didn't bother him as his attention was focused on his study and the promise that he had made to his mother. All of these had continued until he finally finished the entrance exam and handed in the application to his dream college.
Weeks after his application, an envelope carrying good news arrived. It was the admission letter from the College of New Jersey! All of Dylan's hard work paid off. In great excitement, he rushed back to the shelter and handed the letter over to his mother, who cried out of joy. Going through homelessness let the family know that there will always be difficulties, but now with Dylan's great news, the future looks much brighter than before.
