Most of us travel with our parents as children and teenagers. For some of us, during the travel, our parents are our inspiration. These trips are normally full of rental cars, beaches, and hamburgers. My family would go to Galiano island every summer, and we did a week in Mexico in 1995, and then we did two different trips to Anaheim to experience the magic of Disney, Universal, and Knott’s Berry Farm.
But all of these are childhood experiences and memories. I didn’t really truly travel with my parents until I was an adult when I got the chance to travel with mom and dad.
I was in New Zealand for a study abroad, and invited my parents to come down for a 2-week road trip around the North Island and then 10 days in Fiji. Why not They said, as if this was something they were invited to do every day. I didn’t really plan anything, but my mom had done some reading and I knew some highlights after living in New Zealand for 5 months.
I had booked a hotel for their first night in Auckland. The only other preparation I had done was to book a rental car. My parents immediately reached an agreement that I should be the driver, for the whole two weeks. The main reason for this, understandably, was that neither of them had ever been in a country where you drive on the left-hand side of the road and on the right-hand side of the car. This led to me driving my parents around the entire North Island of New Zealand for 2 weeks! But still, everybody had jobs. Dad had the maps, and mom had the guidebook, and I just took them where they told me to go.
Sometimes, I was asked who I was traveling with. When I said “my parents”, the response was, “Ohhh, older people.” In fact, I have some tips on travelling with parents happily.

As new technology is introduced there are many who worry about its influence on our jobs. It is believed that with the rise of robotics and artificial intelligence, many people’s jobs are likely to be lost to automation (自动化).
Automation in the work place is nothing new. Machines have been doing boring and repetitive tasks for us for years. In fact, the International Federation of Robotics says that in manufacturing (制造业) there are now 74 robots per 10,000 employees (员工). That has risen from 66 in 2015.
General Manager of a tech firm Nuance, Bernard Louvat, believes that “AI is a big threat to low-skilled jobs, no question.” He also thinks that AI chatbots will replace (取代) most call centre workers within a few years.
And that’s just one industry. A recent report from the McKinsey Global Institute, says that nearly two thirds of all jobs could have at least 30% of their activities automated by 2030.
However, McKinsey also believes that this new technology will also “create new jobs that do not exist today, much as technologies in the past have done.”
“It’s an evolution (演化) of work,” says Ian Barkin, a robotic process automation expert. As low-skilled jobs are taken on by AI, people will need to learn new skills. “This calls on us to focus on up-skilling. Technology can lead to job reductions but it doesn’t have to,” says Barkin.
Whether or not robotics and AI will leave us all jobless remains to be seen. Views on the subject are mixed. Increased automation could indeed lead to a loss of some jobs, but at the same time is likely to create many more as new skills are required. Will they balance out I’ll get my AI assistant to get back to you on that one.
42. According to Paragraph.1, what do many people worry about
A. Rising cost of living. B. Increase in job satisfaction.
C. Reduction in job chances. D. Improvement in skill requirements.
43. According to Bernard Louvat, who may meet the greatest challenge of AI
A. Engineers. B. Drivers. C. Scientists. D. Lawyers.
44. Which of the following is McKinsey’s opinion
A. AI has little influence on low-skilled industries.
B. We should pay attention to improving our skills.
C. All jobs could have at least 30% of their activities automated by 2030.
D. AI presents challenges to low-skilled jobs, but it also creates new jobs.

A. Will robots create more jobs B. Robots take on our jobs.

Captain Nemo showed me the library, the art gallery and the engine room.
“It’s a wonderful ship!” I exclaimed.
“I love it as if it were my child,” he replied.
“It must have cost a fortune!”
“Millions of dollars,” he replied. “However, I have billions!”
Ned Land and Conseil were as amazed at the ship as I was, but Ned was still interested in trying to find a way to escape. I told him that he should stop thinking about it for the moment.
A few days later, Captain Nemo invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island under the sea. When returned to the Nautilus, we were tired but amazed by what we had seen during the trip. It was an amazing experience.
When we entered the Torres Strait, the Nautilus hit a reef and stopped. We had to wait for the high tide to lift the Nautilus off the reef. We three were allowed to use Captain Nemo’s dinghy to go onto the island. We were excited. When we returned to the island the next day, we were attacked by savages. About one hundred savages followed us and tried to come into the ship. Captain Nemo didn’t worry about them. When they put their hands on the rail, they all fell back and ran away. Captain Nemo had put electricity into the rail. Anybody who touched it would receive an electric shock.
One day, Captain Nemo asked me to follow him to another room and help one of his men. A man lay on a bed with a very bad head wound. I looked at it. “What happened ” Captain Nemo answered, “Something broke in the engine. A heavy piece of metal hit his head.” “He is going to die soon,” I said. “Nothing can save him.” Tears filled Captain Nemo’s eyes, and he asked me to leave.
We sailed through a sea of milk and huge armies of shell sand, sometimes large crowds of sharks. I realized that I did not really want to escape.

As new technology is introduced, there are many who worry about its influence on our jobs.
C Reduction in job chances. D. Improvement in skill requirements.

【答案】Could/Can you tell me how you get along well with people of your age
【解析】
【详解】根据汉语提示可知,此句是宾语从句,Can/Could “能”;you“你”;tell me “告诉我”;how “怎样”;get along well with sb.“与某人和睦相处”;people of your age “同龄人”。故填Could/Can you tell me how you get along well with people of your age

_________________________________
【答案】The oil is running out/will run out, so they will be forced to cut the trip short./Because the oil is running out/will run out, they will be forced to cut the trip short.
【解析】
【详解】因为:because;油:the oil;主语是单数,根据语境,此处现在进行时表将来时或直接用将来时,即用be doing的形式或will+动词原形,be动词用is;耗尽:run out;所以:so;他们:they;“他们”作主语;从句用一般将来时,will+动词原形;被迫做某事:be forced to do sth.;缩短行程:cut the trip short。because和so不能同用,故填The oil is running out/will run out, so they will be forced to cut the trip short./Because the oil is running out/will run out, they will be forced to cut the trip short.

______________________________
【答案】He was so careless that he mistook sugar for salt while he was cooking.
【解析】
【详解】根据中文提示可知,该句用“so+形容词+that从句”结构。从句中主语是he;“粗心的”careless ;“把……误当成……”翻译成mistake…for…,时态是一般过去时,mistake的过去式是mistook;“糖”sugar;“盐”salt;while“当……时候”,引导时间状语从句,从句用过去进行时,主语是第三人称单数he,be动词用was;cook“做饭”。故填He was so careless that he mistook sugar for salt while he was cooking.

【答案】例文
Dear Tommy,
I’m happy to hear from you. In your mail, you asked about waste sorting here in Yangzhou. Now I’ll tell you something about it.
In order to make an effort to make our city more beautiful, we carry out waste sorting. We separate the wastes into different types, and then throw them into the rubbish bins. We will be able to save resources by making use of recyclable waste. Hazardous waste will not pollute our environment after special treatment.
Here are some actions we can take to make the waste sorting better while we are at home. First, we can collect more information about waste sorting and prepare different rubbish bins for different wastes. Paper can be recycled, while kitchen waste especially leftovers can be collected as food for pigs or processed as fertilizer for plants. Above all, such harmful waste as plastics and used batteries should not be mixed with other wastes. What’s more, we can tell our parents and relatives about the importance of waste sorting.
As well as waste sorting, keeping power off while electricity equipment is not in use is also a good idea to protect our environment.
If everybody takes action, we can make a big difference to our environment.
All the best,
Li Hua
