在英文表示“某一商店”的商店中，往往可以把shop省略，如课文中的the butcher’s (shop)和the greengrocer’s (shop)，类似的例子还有the hairdresser’s (shop)，the stationer’s (shop)，the docter’s (office)，my mother’s (house)等。

BUTCHER: Do you want any meat today, Mrs. Bird
MRS.BIRD: Yes, please.
BUTCHER: Do you want beef or lamb
MRS.BIRD: Beef, please.
BUTCHER: This lamb's very good.
MRS.BIRD: I like lamb, but my husband doesn't.
BUTCHER: What about some steak
This is a nice piece.
MRS.BIRD: Give me that piece, please.
And a pound of mince, too.
BUTCHER: Do you want a chicken, Mrs. Bird
They 're very nice.
MRS.BIRD: No, thank you.
My husband likes steak, but he doesn't like chicken.
BUTCHER: To tell you the truth, Mrs. Bird, I don't like chicken either!
课文讲解
1）---Do you want any meat today, Mrs. Bird ---Yes, please.
您今天要买点肉吗，伯德夫人？是的，我买一点。
2）---Do you want beef or lamb ---Beef, please.您是要牛肉还是羔羊肉？请给我牛肉。
这是一个选择疑问句，因为句中含有 or，在读的时候，or 后面读降调。选择疑问句不能接用 yes 来回答。Lamb 是羔羊肉。表示羊肉还有一个词 mutton, 但 lamb 尤指小羊的肉。
3）This lamb’s very good.这羔羊肉很好。
4）I like lamb, but my husband doesn’t.我喜欢羔羊肉，可我丈夫不喜欢。
5）What about some steak？This is a nice piece. 来点牛排吗？这块很好。what about 的意思是“……怎么样”，后面常常直接跟名词或者名词词组。用来征求对方的看法或意见。这个词组也可以被说成是 how about,二者可以互换。本句是个疑问句，但是却用 some 来表示“一些”，表示希望从对方那里得到肯定的答复这是 some 的一种特殊用法。比如：Do you want some milk 你想再要点牛奶吗？
6）Give me that piece, please. And a pound of mince, too.就请给我那块吧。再来一磅肉馅。
mince 是不可数名词，所以不能直接在它的前面加 a。
7）Do you want a chicken, Mrs. Bird They’re very nice.您要买只鸡吗，伯德夫人？ 这些鸡很好。
No, thank you.不要了，谢谢。
8）My husband likes steak,but he doesn’t like chicken. 我丈夫喜欢牛排，但他不喜欢鸡。
9）To tell you the truth, Mrs. Bird,I don’t like chicken either! 说老实话，伯德夫人，我也不喜欢鸡。
“to tell you the truth”是个插入语，表示说话人的一种态度，意思是“说实话”， 常常放在句首。

重要语法
some/any
some/any +可数名词复数/不可数名词；some一般用于肯定句，any一般用于否定句或疑问句；但在征求对方意见时希望得到对方肯定答复，some可用于疑问句
例：I want some books.我想要一些书。
I don’t want any books.我不想要一些书。
Do you want any books 你想要一些书吗？
动词不定式
动词不定式不能作谓语，其它的都可作。动词不定式就是to+动词原型。
to tell you the truth 告诉你实话吧（动词不定式短语）
例：To say is one thing. To do is another. 说是一回事，做又是一回事。
一般现在时：主语为第三人称单数时肯定，否定以及疑问句（复习巩固）
当主语为第三人称单数时，动词要变成单三形式否定句要用doesn't，后面的动词要变回动词原形，一般疑问句用Does引导，后面的动词也要变回动词原形
例：He wants some beef . He doesn’t want any beef .
---Does he want any beef ---Yes , he does . —No , he doesn't .
do 主语为 I, you及复数时 do not = don’t (否定形式)
does 主语为第三人称单数时 does not = doesn’t (否定形式)
例：①肯定句：I like Tank.
否定句：I don’t like Tank.
一般疑问句：Do you like Tank Yes,I do./ No, I don't.
②肯定句：She likes Tank.
否定句：She doesn’t like Tank.
一般疑问句：Does she like Tank Yes, she does. / No, she doesn't.
