写作第一节 66.
A Self-Discovery Journey at “Know Yourself”
Last Friday, I had the honor of attending the “Know Yourself” event organized by our school’s
Psychology Club, which was both significant and enjoyable.
The event, held in the school library, aimed to guide students in gaining a deeper understanding
of themselves and promoting mental well-being. The activities were diverse, ranging from group
discussions on how to relieve stress to enjoyable psychological tests.
Through these activities, I gained insights into my coping mechanisms under pressure.
Additionally, the psychological tests provided me with new perspectives to better plan my future
development. I believe such experiences are invaluable for all participants and will have a positive
impact on our future growth.
写作第二节 67.
Suddenly, I saw my parents walking towards me along the road. They took my baby sister in
the baby basket, I looked at them in disbelief. When they came near, my father made faces toward
me and spread the picnic blanket on an empty place beside the road. My mother then put down the
baby basket on it. We all sat down on it and enjoyed the snacks. Suddenly, my father placed my
sister’s hat on my head and declared. “Sleepy Beauty!” We all burst out laughing.
After the picnic, we went to pick some flowers. A moment later, I heard funny noises coming
from the baby basket. I tiptoed to it and looked in. My baby sister was wide awake and was playing
with her mouth water in her baby basket. Staring at her lovely cheeks and rosy lips, I found myself
reaching out to the little creature. To my amazement, she grabbed onto my little finger. At the very
moment, I felt a magic bond growing between Rosa and me.

M: The summer vacation in New Delhi begins in May 1st every year. Much before it began we
started planning how to spend it. I suggested that we should go to Shillong. But my sister insisted
that we see Darjeeling. My father decided that we would go to both places with one month’s stay
at each place.
So, it was decided that we would be going first to Shillong and then to Darjeeling. We left the
New Delhi Railway Station four days after the vacation began. It was a very long and tiring
journey. The train reached Guwahati in the evening.
The next day, early in the morning we drove to Shillong. We stayed there for nearly a month in
the hotel. The climate was no doubt cool and pleasant, but there were very few places of interest.
We left Shillong on June 4th. On our way to Darjeeling, we traveled by train. We saw thick
forests and beautiful tea gardens. We reached Darjeeling at about noon. We took a taxi and went
to a hotel where reservations had been earlier arranged by my father. One day we went to the
Tiger Hills by taxi at 4 a.m. to enjoy the famous sunrise. It was a wonderful sight which we had
never seen before. And that was the last day of our vacation.

Where to Eat in Kuala Lumpur
Great restaurants in Kuala Lumpur offer a genuine global dining experience. Whether you are looking to enjoy hearty comfort food or some local delicacies, the city’s dining scene satisfies all comers.

My daughter has a new app on her phone that can brighten up old photographs. She used it to make copies of pictures from my old photo albums look better, and emailed them back to me. There were pictures of Mom, Dad, my brothers, me and my first dog, Duke. Looking at them brought back so many loving and happy memories. I even put one on my computer as my new screen saver.
It is a picture of me sitting in my favorite chair, next to a bookcase full of old books. I am
wearing my special sweatshirt and hugging Duke. There is a big smile on my face. It was how I spent a lot of my winter afternoons as a boy, hugging Duke and reading old books.
It is strange that the boy still lives inside me 50 years later. I still love comfortable chairs, warm
stoves, sweatshirts, hugging dogs and reading books on cold winter days. Yet, when I look in the mirror now, all I see are thinning and graying hair, age spots and lots of wrinkles. The only thing that hasn’t completely changed in that reflection is my eyes. They are hiding behind glasses now.
They are set a little deeper in my eye sockets (眼窝). Only the innocence in them has been replaced
with wisdom. But they still have that same joyfulness.
Looking at the little boy smiling at me from the computer screen and that 56-year-old man looking back at me in the mirror can be a bit confusing at times. They seem so different. Still, they
are both me. It is one of those things we have to deal with being eternal (永久的) souls living inside
temporary bodies. Perhaps the best thing we can do is to pay less attention to those reflections in the
mirror and more to the reflections of our lives. We are all here to reflect back love to everyone here on Earth. And when we do, we remain both joyful and forever young.
24.What did the author’s daughter do with her new app on her phone
A.She brightened up his old pictures. B.She put several pictures into his emails.
C.She searched for a screensaver for him. D.She created a scene about his childhood. 25.What can we know about the author as a boy
A.He often felt lonely. B.He loved reading books.
C.He was forced to study. D.He was quite troublesome.
26.What can be inferred about the author from paragraph 3
A.His hobbies have changed a lot. B.He is annoyed about his looks.
C.Time leaves few marks on him. D.He is a happy and mature man.
27.What message does the author seem to convey in the text
A.Aging is unavoidable for everyone. B.A happy childhood is very important.
C.Loving others can bring us happiness. D.We should take good care of ourselves.
C
If you think that running marathons will help you live a long and healthy life, new research
may come as a shock. According to a recent scientific study, people who do a very strenuous workout are as likely to die as people who do no exercise at all.
Scientists in Denmark have been studying over 1, 000 joggers and non-joggers for 12 years.
The death rates from the sample group indicate that people who jog at a moderate pace two or three times a week for less than two and a half hours in total are least likely to die. The best speed to jog
at was found to be about 5 miles per hour. The research suggests that people who jog more than
three times a week or at higher speeds of over 7 mph die at the same rate as non-joggers. The scientists think that this is because strenuous exercise causes structural changes to the heart and
arteries(动脉). Over time, this can cause serious injuries.
Peter Schnohr, a researcher in Copenhagen, said, “If your goal is to decrease the risk of death
and improve life expectancy, jogging a few times a week at a moderate pace is a good strategy. Anything more is just unnecessary, and it may be harmful. ”
The implications of this are that moderate forms of exercise such as Tai Chi, yoga and brisk
walking may be better for us than “iron man” events, triathlons and long-distance running and cycling. According to Jacob Louis Marott, another researcher involved in the study, “You don't
actually have to do that much to have a good impact on your health. And perhaps you shouldn't actually do too much. ”
The underlined word “strenuous” in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to “ ”.
A. hard B. regular C. practical D. little
The author presents some figures in Paragraph 2 to .
A. suggest giving up jogging B. show risks of doing sports
C. provide supportive evidence D. introduce the research process
Which might be a good form of exercise according to the passage
A. Jogging for an hour every day. B. Brisk walking for half an hour every day.
C. Cycling at a high speed. D. Doing yoga once a month.
According to the scientists, why is too much exercise harmful
A. It may injure the heart and arteries. B. It can make the body tired out.
C. It will bring much pressure. D. It consumes too much energy.
D
Suppose you come across two doctors. One is handsome while the other looks plain. Who would you trust with your surgery Most people would probably want to get treated by the handsome one. And most people are likely to be wrong about that.
When you look at the sun, you sometimes see it clearly. But sometimes you’ll see it shining
way bigger than its actual shape. That circle of light called a halo makes it look bigger. This effect, known as the halo effect, also happens when a person, product, or company shines like the sun. Then we don’t see them clearly and associate all sorts of unrelated qualities to them.
The halo effect was once studied by the psychologist Edward Thorndike, who asked flight
commanders to evaluate their pilots in various distinct aspects such as physical appearance, intelligence, and leadership. He found that the pilots who got high scores for their physical appearance, also got rated high on intelligence and leadership skills — a link that seemed wrong. It appears that the commanders were unable to evaluate specific qualities independently of others.
They thought of their pilots in broad terms, either “good” or “bad”, and allowed this general feeling
to influence the specific qualities they credited to their pilots. Some pilots profited from their halo.
The halo effect also explains why some teachers give better-looking students higher grades.
One study looked at the grades of 4,500 pupils, who were sorted by volunteers into three groups: below-average, average, and above-average looking. The researchers then compared students’
grades between classes taken in conventional(传统的)classrooms with those taken online where
there was no face-to-face interaction. The researchers found that students who were rated as
good-looking earned significantly lower grades in online courses compared to conventional classrooms.
Since the physical appearance of good-looking people seems to naturally make them also
appear intelligent, strong, and trustworthy, here is one good rule. If you meet with an accident and have to choose between two equally qualified doctors, ignore their halo and choose the less handsome one. He might have worked twice as hard to gain the same reputation and is likely better at his job.
32.What is the purpose of the second paragraph
A.To explore a natural wonder.
B.To spread scientific knowledge.
C.To explain a psychological tendency.
D.To interpret social rules at the workplace.
33.How did the commanders tend to evaluate their pilots in Thorndike’s study
A.In a general way. B.With common sense.
C.From a specific aspect. D.By an objective standard.
34.What does the 4,500-pupil study find about better-looking students
A.They were fairly treated by their teachers.
B.They were less attentive in online courses.
C.They probably had natural learning abilities.
D.They were overvalued in conventional classes.
35.What can be learned about the halo effect
A.It relieves appearance anxiety.
B.It leads to inaccurate judgments.
C.It causes trust crisis among people.
D.It strengthens workplace competition.

How to Make Your Clothes Last Longer
We have to throw out some clothes that we love just because we’ve not taken good care of them.
Four top tips can help you make your clothes last longer. 36
●Reduce the times you wash your clothes. Washing your clothes less doesn’t mean wearing the same T-shirt for a week. You can wear clothes like jeans and jumpers at least three times before washing. The exception, of course, is clothes worn for the gym. Besides, if you don’t wear clothes
next to your skin, air them after wearing. 37 If they seem fine, you can wear them
another day.
●Wash our clothes inside out. 38 As the machine spins (旋转) the clothes around,
they must twine each other. Turning your clothes inside out reduces wear on the outside surface of your clothes: This can help keep them from damage.
●Air your clothes dry if possible. Drying your clothes on a line is good for both your clothes
and the environment. 39 When possible, just use the dryer at a low temperature.
● 40 Rather than throw something out because of a small hole or tear. Knowing how
to use a needle and thread (线) and a few basic repairing techniques can be friendly to your clothes and your pocket. If the work is beyond your skills, you can find repair places nearby your houses.
A.Hang your jumpers on the clothes line.
B.Fixing your clothes is a wise alternative.
C.Use an app to find places for clothes repair.
D.Simply check your clothes for any spots or marks.
E.Your clothes are usually beaten hard during the wash.
F.In the meantime, it can also reduce the expense of the electricity.
G.They can also help save both your money and our environment definitely.

I used to enjoy going to my aunt’s flower farm. But not recently, because my newly born sister,
Rosa, was settled in my old bedroom. For many years, I stored my books and toys in that small room. But now it was changed into her baby room. Both my space and my old life were gone.
One sunny morning, my aunt took me to her farm again. When we arrived there, my aunt said I
could pick some flowers for my parents. I used to love this, but today I was so overcome with tiredness and envy that I did not move.
“Why bother to bring them flowers when they are enjoying Rosa at home without me ” I
thought while silently helping my aunt arrange flowers.
“Your mother told me that there hadn’t been much sleep recently for any of you,” my aunt said. “The alarm clock in Rosa’s room kept going off,” I complained with a huge yawn(哈欠).
“I remember that I had to walk around the house like a worn-out mouse when your mother was
a baby. I spent the first months hating her so much.”my aunt laughed. “ But you and my mother seem so close,” I said guiltily, hiding away my envy of Rosa.“Now, we are. But it took me years to
get used to the role of being a big sister.” she said and pulled me into her arms. “It really takes time,
you know.”
A few seconds later, my aunt took me for a walk along the road which was dotted with beautiful flowers. I began to pick the little flowers as we talked. It was like collecting my childhood memories. I remembered how I’d made flower chains with my father, while giving each other the silliest names such as Princess of Snacks and King of Junk Food. Little by little, my face lit up and the flowers reminded me of the bright colors in my baby sister’s room. “Is she awake ” I wondered.
