Travel is fun and exciting, but it's not if you get sick. You may think, "Not me, I won't get sick on my vacation. " But for many people, that is what happens. Of course you don't want to spend your vacation sick in bed. So what can you do to stay in good health There are three things you should remember when you travel: relax, sleep and eat well.
A vacation should be a time for relaxing. But very often it is not. Think about what you do when you are a tourist. There are so many places to visit: museums, shops, parks and churches. You may spend most days walking around these places. You may be very tired. Your feet may hurt and you may have a terrible headache after a few hours. If this is the way you feel, you should take a rest. Don't ask your body to do too much. A tired body means a weak body. And a weak body gets sick easily. So sit down for a few hours in a nice place. In good weather, look for a quiet park chair or you can stop at a corner. You can learn a lot by watching people while you rest.
Sleep is also important. If you want to stay healthy, you need to get enough sleep. You may have trouble sleeping at night when you travel. Your hotel room may be noisy or the bed may be uncomfortable. If this is true, don't be afraid to change rooms or hotels, or you may not get enough sleep. You may want to stay out late at night. In many cities the nightlife can be very interesting. Then you should plan to sleep for an hour during the day. That extra hour can make a big difference.
Finally, if you want to stay healthy, you must eat well. That means eating the right kinds of food. Your body needs fresh fruits and vegetables, and some meat, milk or cheese. When you are in a new country, you may want to try new food but you need to be careful about how much you eat. Lots of rich food is not good for you.

Every summer, about three billion birds migrate(迁徙)from North Africa to Europe and Asia. In winter, they return to Africa. As they travel from one place to another, they use the sun, stars, smells and landforms (地形)to find the way.
The migration is long and difficult, and some of the animals die during each trip. However, it is not this twice-a-year journey that poses the greatest risk for these animals. The main danger to the birds comes from hunters all over the Mediterranean (地中海地区). Millions of migratory birds are killed every year. As a result, the bird population is falling.
In countries along the Mediterranean, many migratory birds are illegally(非法地) trapped or killed. Besides traps, hunters also use electronic calls to catch birds. They make bird sounds to attract the birds. Some hunters also use nets to catch birds as they fly close to the sea. "There are no birds, "said one local man. "We walk for hours without seeing any. It's really frightening. "
Birds are in danger, and many countries are working to solve this problem. In the European Union, hunting migratory birds is illegal in some countries, while in others, it is strictly controlled --- the birds can only be hunted at a certain time of year. What's more, many nature-protection groups are making sure that laws are obeyed. This has been successful in many places. For example, Sicily, an island of Italy, was once a place where illegal bird hunting often happened. Today, it has mostly eliminated(消除) bird hunting, and as a result, birdwatching is becoming popular there.
Wildlife organizations around the Mediterranean are helping to bring about change. "Hunting bans (禁令) are working, "said Martin Schneider-Jacoby, a bird scientist. "But there is still more to do. We hope to stop hunting and protect birds' living areas all over the Mediterranean. If this can be done, the number of birds will increase. There's a long way to go, but there is hope. "

C. Hunters try to attract more birds to the area.
D. The weather has become more pleasant in the area.
54. Which of the following would Martin Schneider-Jacoby agree with the most
A. There should be more laws to protect baby birds.
B. It's possible that the bird population may continue to fall.
C. More countries need to stop hunting to increase the bird population.
D. The only way to increase the bird population is to allow limited hunting.
55. The passage is mainly about __________.
A. several problems caused by migratory birds

Hi, Tom,
Thanks for your message and I am glad that you wrote to me for advice.
I remember when I was learning English, I also felt uncomfortable about speaking. I could remember lots of words and knew grammar rules, but speaking was difficult. I now feel a lot more confident about speaking, so here are some ideas that I have taken from my own experience.
▲ Other people will still know what you mean and probably won't notice your mistakes.
Use every chance you get to speak. For example, it's a good idea to use only English in class. At home, you should also try practising new words and grammar learnt in class.
Think about extra speaking practice outside the classroom. You can join conversation groups. They are usually free to join.
Practise speaking online. There are lots of websites where you can communicate with someone from all around the world.
I hope this helps you and please come to me if you have other problems.

Mr Smith had a hotel near the railway station. A lot of foreigners stayed there for the night. Mr Smith only knew English, so he found it wasn’t easy for him to understand foreigners. A friend of his wanted to teach him Japanese. He was very happy and studied hard.
Soon he found it was difficult to remember Japanese words. His friend asked him to write down the useful words in his notebook so that he could use them. He did as his friend told him. It was helpful for him to do so.
One evening, there were a lot of people in the dinning room. They were all busy eating something, but a Japanese was walking up and down there. Mr Smith thought to himself, “The man wanted to eat something but he doesn’t know English. Let me help him.”
Because he knew only a little Japanese, he had to bring out his notebook and showed the sentence “I’m hungry.” to the man.
The Japanese had a look at it and gave him two dollars and left.
