Learning a Foreign Language
There are many aspects (方面) to language learning, such as how words are said, which words are chosen and what forms of words are used. All of these aspects together can make learning a foreign language difficult. But some advice might make learning a new language easier and more fun.
◆Don’t worry too much about pronouncing words the wrong way.
Pronunciation is important, of course. 1 But the most important step in learning a new language is to practice speaking it. As for learning any new skills, practice makes perfect. And most of the time, the native speaker is glad to help improve the pronunciation of the words.
◆Don’t be afraid to guess the meaning of what someone says.
2 It is impossible to know all of them. You may use context (上下文) and body language to guess what others say. For example, when a person says “Hola”and waves his hand, one might guess that the person is giving a greeting. Whether it means“Hello”or “Good morning”, it is not very important at that moment to know the exact meaning.
◆ 3
Learning a new language or skill always takes time. Many will give up learning because it is too hard or boring. Some may think that other people will laugh at them for making mistakes. But it’s OK to make mistakes. Nobody is perfect, after all. Don’t lose hope and keep trying.

man tree rest prisoner up down mountain
The Chinese language is different from Western languages. Instead of an alphabet (字母表), it uses characters which stand for ideas, objects or actions. Chinese words are formed by putting together different characters. 53 As one of the most ancient characters, Chinese characters have played an important role in the development of Chinese culture.
54 According to an ancient story, a man named Cang Jie invented Chinese writing. One winter day, while he was hunting, he saw the tracks (踪迹) of animals in the snow and found that the appearance of each one was different. Then he had the idea that he could use different shapes to stand for different objects. The first Chinese characters were drawings of objects. Some characters have been simplified (简化) and others have been made more-difficult over time.
55 Sometimes to express ideas, some characters were made by combining (组合) two or more characters together. It is easy to know their meanings by looking at them.
However, one of their disadvantages is that they do not show how they should be pronounced. Therefore, a method was developed to have one part of a character show the meaning and the other suggest the pronunciation. Many Chinese characters used today were made this way.
In the 1950s, the Chinese government introduced simplified Chinese characters to make learning to read and write more understandable to people, which would increase literacy (读写能力) across the country. 56

Friends are important in our lives. But not all of friends stand the test of time. We spoke about friendships with Marisa Franco, writer of the book How Can You Make And Keep Friends. Here are four tips to remember if you’re losing a friend.
Accept changes in life
Losing friends is a part of life. 77 Franco said: “Nobody really wants the friendship to end, but people get busy and can’t keep the friendship any more.” It doesn’t mean we are not qualified (合格的) friends. Instead, it makes us value what we have at present.
78
“When being with friends, the relationship will get worse if you keep leaving something unsaid instead of communicating with each other positively (积极地).” Franco said. We might be afraid of having arguments. But if we think about it and talk in peace, it can be a sign that you care enough to fix the friendship.
Allow yourself to feel sad
79 Allow yourself to feel those feelings and be patient with yourself. Franco said, “When society doesn’t value a relationship that you’re losing, you have trouble grieving.” It makes the grief last longer. We should think like “Of course, I’m sad, I lost someone I’m close to”. Instead of being like “What’s wrong with me ” “And you can’t put a timeline on grief. Grief is just a process of feeling emotion over time.” Franco said.
Be kind to yourself along the way
Franco said it’s important to forgive (原谅) yourself for not getting over the loss of a friendship. 80 But don’t go into a new friendship feeling afraid. “Your understanding of friendship in your brain isn’t just colored by this one experience.” Franco said.
A.Make the unsaid said.
B.Things just keep coming and going.
C.Solve problems as quickly as possible.
