The word otsaliheliga is used by members of the Cherokee Nation to express gratitude. This is an amazing story that describes a journey through the seasons with a modern-day Cherokee family. Cherokee history and traditions are also woven into the story in a very kid-friendly way.

Robert and Henry were going home for lunch from school when, on turning a corner, Robert cried out, “A fight! Let’s go and see!”

China has set new rules limiting the amount of time children can play online games. The rules limit children to just three hours of online game playing a week. That is one hour between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday most weeks.
Li Zhanguo has two children aged 4 and 8. Even though they do not have smart phones, they enjoy playing online games. Like many other parents, Li is happy with new government rules. But experts say it is unclear if such policies can help prevent addiction to online games. Children might just get addicted to social media instead. In the end, experts say, parents should be the ones to set limits and support good practices.
There has been a growing concern in China about gaming addiction among children. Government reports in 2018 found that about one in 10 Chinese children were addicted to the Internet. The new rules are part of an effort to prevent young people from spending too much time on unhealthy entertainment. That includes what officials call the “irrational fan culture”.
Under the new rules, the responsibility for making sure children play only three hours a day falls largely on Chinese gaming companies like NetEase and panies have set up real-name registration(登记，注册） systems to prevent young users from going past game time limits. They have used facial recognition technology to check their identities. And they have also set up a program that permits people to report what is against the law. It is unclear what punishments gaming companies may face if they do not carry out the policies. And even if such policies are performed, it is also unclear whether they can prevent online addiction.
A specialist treating internet addiction expects about 20 percent of children will find ways to break the rules by borrowing accounts of their older relatives and find a way around facial recognition. In his opinion, short-video apps such as Douyin and TikTok are also very popular in China. They are not under the same restrictions（限制）as games.

It’s summer, and school-aged kids are finding all kinds of ways to have fun, from a trip to the pool or playground to playing games with smart phones. As a result, they are also forgetting some of what they learned in school, a phenomenon (现象) called “summer slide”. Fortunately, summer slide can be prevented with just a little regular practice of fun.
Encourage reading every day. Make a special event out of a trip to the public library, and let your kids pick out whatever interests them. Give your kids a special treat for every book they finish. Help them set up a reading corner in their room that’s quiet, comfortable and free of various electronic distractions. Best of all, give them the gift of your own example as an enthusiastic reader.
Another way to make reading fun is to share a poem together. Poems by writers like Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein and Maurice Sendak are fun to read aloud, and often have a strong sense of humor that attracts children. Take turns reading them aloud to each other, talk about what they mean, and see if you can memorize your favorites. Then have a contest to see who can write the best poem.
Summer is a great time to visit a learning place together. Children’s museums are specially designed to make learning fun and enjoyable for kids and let them practice essential skills. Or just take a walk together on one of our many nature paths where your children can use their reading skills to learn about the plants, animals and geology around them. And of course, don’t forget the special programs offered by many local public libraries, along with many other learning materials for kids of all ages.

W: Sure. How many hours a week do you spend reading
M: Well it depends, but half an hour on the bus, 5 days a week — plus maybe another half hour, so 15about 3 hours in total.
W: I probably read more than you — more like 4 hours. What sort of books do you like Hmm... science fiction, books about war
M: Well, 16I prefer travel books. I think you can learn a lot from non-fiction, don’t you
W: I suppose so, but I prefer to read something light in my free time.

Hello, this is Johnson, your headmaster, with the morning announcements. 18Our usual reader Timmy is out sick today, so I’m reading in his place. I hope you’ve all had a great start to the week! This Monday has started out warm and sunny, so let’s hope it stays that way. I know we’ve had some strange weather in the last few weeks. We have just one month of school left before summer break, so make sure you’ve turned in all of your homework. The last day to turn in an assignment is Friday, May 20th. The last boys’ baseball game will be held at 6:00 p.m. this Wednesday. Please show up to support the team! 19If you’ve had problems using the computers in the library, they should be fixed by Thursday. We’re sorry for any trouble this may have caused. This evening, the girls’ volleyball team will be playing their last game, 20and over the weekend, the basketball team is playing McKinney School on Saturday afternoon.
