How to Choose books you’ll love
Do you have trouble choosing a book to read With so many choices, it can be hard to decide which books are right for you. Here are some tips of choosing the ones you’re more likely to enjoy.
Thinking about stories you’ve enjoyed in the past can give you clues about what genres① you prefer. Maybe you like science fiction, which transports you to completely made-up worlds. Or perhaps you like historical fiction, made-up stories based on true events. Nonfiction is another choice. Think about the topics that interest you or an interest you have and want to know more about.
Ask for recommendations②
You can visit the library and ask a librarian to guide you to the shelves that feature the genre you’d like to dive into. Another idea is to ask friends with similar tastes what books they have liked and would recommend. You can also find a list of recommendations from the Internet.
Search for “readalikes”
If you enjoyed a particular book, you may like others that are similar in style, known as a “readalike.” You can look up a writer whose book you liked in the past, and find out whether they have written sequels③ or other books you might enjoy. If you have read through an entire series and are looking for new writers, you can checkout the website www. and put in the name of the writer you like, the site’s search engine will suggest similar writers to you.

Young people can feel pressure to dress in clothes that are too grown-up. Choosing clothes can be a two-way 64 : children say what they prefer but parents have the final say. It’s not just about what you wear, but how you wear it.
No — It’s an individual decision.
You should decide because you’re the one wearing the clothes. Parents don’t always understand what children like or know what is trendy. What’s more, choosing for yourself is an important step towards becoming 65 and can build self-confidence.
Selecting clothes can be fun and creative, and allows you to express yourself and develop an individual style. For some people, clothing is a way of showing you 66 a certain group. Many people help animals before, during, and after disasters. Before storms, some volunteers w 70 people to take pets and farm animals to the shelters. During a storm, they look for animals and save them. Some volunteers also help wild animals, such as birds, deer and even koalas in Australia. They give the animals m 71 care. Education Is the Key
Reporter: Hello, everyone. Besides helping animals in pain, the SPCA also runs a very active education program in schools. Meet Ms Ann Lek, our Education Officer. Her job is to help more people understand animals so that they will be treated (对待) better.
Reporter: What is your job duty in the SPCA, Ann
Ms Ann Lek: I give talks at schools and in many other places to help people learn more about animals. I pay visits at our shelter once a week to teach people what they should consider before getting a pet. Besides weekly talks and visits, I also help educate the public about responsible pet ownership.
Reporter: When did you decide to become an Education Officer
Ms Ann Lek: I always love animals and want to make this world a better place for them. I started as a volunteer with the organization, when I was still attending university. It is so enjoyable to work with those who feel the same as I do. After volunteering for four years, I wanted to do more. I decided to join them full-time when they needed an Education Officer.
Reporter: What is the most unforgettable experience you have met while working for the SPCA
Ms Ann Lek: Looking after pets and being able to bring them to work! I really appreciate (感激) the fact that I can bring my pets with me into the office when I want to. They’re my joy and give me the energy at work. Being able to bring my dogs or cats to work and having my workmates worry about them and shower them totally makes my day.
Reporter: Which misunderstanding of pets would you like to change most
Ms Ann Lek: I really hate it when people are unhappy when I talk about pets, or when taxi drivers refuse to take me because I’m travelling with my dog. Whenever I speak to them and ask why, they always give the same terrible reason: “They’re dirty.” They work and travel closely with human beings every day and share all kinds of public things, but why should we get worried about contracting (感染) a kind of illness from the friendly neighbourhood pets So I think education is the key!

Dear Peter,
Glad to hear from you. It’s easy to choose a gift which stands for Chinese culture.
I’d love to give you my suggestion about Chinese gifts. From my point of view, paper-cut is a good choice to be special Chinese gifts for your family.
Paper-cuts are usually used to decorate the house. They are put on windows, doors and walls to celebrate the Spring Festival. Paper-cuts are a traditional Chinese culture, from which you can have a better understanding of China. People like them very much because they are seen as symbols for good luck and a happy new year.
I hope my advice is helpful. Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
