Many people with physical disabilities think that they cannot do any sports. However, at Adaptive Outdoors, we believe that everyone can do sports! We teach disabled people whitewater rafting, skiing, snowboarding, and many other exciting outdoor sports. Many disabled people don’t do any sports because they think it’s too dangerous for them. They are afraid that they will get hurt. However, in the past 12 years, we have proved (证明) to our students again and again that this is not true.
Our excellent coaches are very careful when they teach disabled people, so our students are always safe. In fact, many of our coaches have disabilities, too, so they really understand how their students feel. They also know that many people with disabilities need new challenges in their lives. When people with disabilities reach their goals successfully by trying something new, it is an exciting experience for them! Many students tell us that after they learned how to do a new sport, they discovered that they felt much more self-confident, not only about doing sports, but about all parts of their life. Here is what the father of one of our students said about us:
“My wife and I both love to ski, so when our daughter was born with a disability, we thought that unluckily she could never enjoy the sport that we love so much. When she was six, we heard about Adaptive Outdoors, and we decided to take her to your ski school for one week. This was the best decision we ever made! We learned that when your child has a disability, you have to keep teaching her to do new, more difficult things. This teaches her how to take a risk. Being successful helps her to become a strong and happy person. Now our daughter says that skiing is easy, and she makes up her mind to learn how to snowboard! Thank you, Adaptive Outdoors!”
19. What does the underlined word “this” refer to in Paragraph 1
A. It’s too dangerous for disabled people to do sports.
B. It’s not necessary to teach disabled people to do sports.
C. It’s easier for disabled people to hurt others during sports.
D. It’s useful for disabled teachers to teach disabled children.
20. What’s the advantage of having disabled coaches in Adaptive Outdoors
A. They are more confident and careful.
B. They always like to try something new.
C. They can understand their students’ feelings.
D. They are really good at doing outdoor sports.
21. How does the writer support his opinion about Adaptive Outdoors in the last paragraph
A. By telling a regrettable story. B. By using a personal experience.
C. By providing some numbers. D. By questioning some famous experts.
22. What’s Adaptive Outdoors according to the passage
A. Sports clubs for disabled coaches and teachers.
B. Useful training for parents with disabled children.
C. Summer camps for children who love outdoor sports.
D. Special programs for children and adults with disabilities.

①In your magazine, you wrote that many farm kids wanted to live in the city. Well, I am a farm kid, and I don’t want to live in the city. In fact, I want to explain exactly why I think it’s better to grow up on a farm than to grow up in the city.
②First, farm kids are too busy with farm work to get into trouble like a lot of city kids do. We usually go home right after school to work on the farm and help our parents. We have to milk the cows, feed animals, fix fences, help with watering the crops (庄稼) or any other kind of farm work. All these things keep us busy and out of trouble.
③Second, farm kids understand at an early age what’s really important in life. We help our parents when animals are born, and we take care of these animals till they die. Most farm kids like me learn a lot about life and death on the farm. That gives us an understanding of human life and death that city kids don’t have.
④In addition, farm kids have a much better understanding of nature than many city kids do. We work outside all year. We always get to watch the sunrise. We understand how heat or wind or snow can change our crops. We also understand how much water different crops need at different times of year. The farm kids learn many outdoor skills when they are young.
⑤Finally, farm kids have a greater sense of responsibility than most city kids. We know that crops and animals can die if we don’t do our work. I learned at an early age to feed the animals on time and to water the crops regularly. Sometimes I’m tired or sick, or it’s freezing cold. Even then. I know that I have to do these things because the animals, the crops, and my family depend on me.
⑥For all these reasons, I think that it is better to grow up on a farm than to grow up in the city. My own experience growing up on a family farm in Colorado tells me this. I know that growing up on a farm made me the responsible, hardworking, and thoughtful young person.
23. What may the underlined words “fix fences” in Paragraph 2 belong to
A. Big trouble. B. Farm work. C. School work. D. Busy study.
24. What can we learn from Paragraph 3 and Paragraph 4
A. Farm kids think animals are the most important in their life.
B. City kids learn many outdoor skills when they are old enough.
C. City kids can see more natural things like sunrise than farm kids.
D. Farm kids usually have a better understanding of life than city kids.
25. What is the purpose of the text
A. To introduce the ways to live on the farm and in the city.
B. To help parents to have a better understanding of country life.
C. To explain the reasons why it’s good for kids to live on the farm.
D. To invite children to learn many outdoor skills and farm knowledge.
26. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.
【答案】23. B 24. D 25. C 26. A
【解析】
【导语】本文主要解释为什么孩子住在农场对他们有好处。
【23题详解】
词义猜测题。根据“We have to milk the cows, feed animals, fix fences, help with watering the crops (庄稼) or any other kind of farm work.”可知,该句提到了挤牛奶、喂动物,帮忙给庄稼浇水,因此划线词也属于农场工作之一。故选B。
【24题详解】
推理判断题。根据“Most farm kids like me learn a lot about life and death on the farm.”、“In addition, farm kids have a much better understanding of nature than many city kids do.”以及“The farm kids learn many outdoor skills when they are young.”可知,农村的孩子通常比城市的孩子更了解生活。故选D。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。通读全文,尤其根据“In fact, I want to explain exactly why I think it’s better to grow up on a farm than to grow up in the city.”
故选A。
D
We made a survey among different age groups on preferred ways of watching TV programs. The following is the analysis (分析) of the survey results. We hope to give suggestions to advertisers based on the findings.
TV viewers of different ages were asked about their primary way of watching TV. The results can be seen in the pie chart, which shows that although live TV is still popular, it is now preferred by just under half of those surveyed. Watching recorded programs (DVR) is the second most popular way (23%), with online streaming (直播) in third place (17%).
Of the people who chose each of the three main viewing kinds, the graph (柱状图) shows what percentage was in each of the seven age groups. To help advertisers look for target (目标) age groups, the report will focus on the data (数据) shown in this graph.
The survey shows that live TV viewers are still the largest group. They are older in age, so advertising through live TV will be less helpful for products aimed at younger people.
On demand (点播) or DVR viewers are more likely to be aged 25—44. This is the best kind for advertisers aiming at a wide age group. However, it should be remembered that they are likely to skip advertisements when watching recorded programs. They think it is a waste of time to watch ads.
Online streaming viewers are typically younger in age (under 25). Although they now make up less than a fifth of viewers, the number is likely to rise in the near future.
Generally, it is likely that the data for the three kinds will become almost the same in the near future.
27. Which of the following is the second most popular way of watching TV
A. Live TV. B. On demand. C. DVR. D. Online streaming.
28. According to the graph, which age group like live TV best
A. The 18 or younger group. B. The 18—24 group.
C. The 45—54 group. D. The 65 or older group.
29. Which of the following best explains the underlined word “skip” in Paragraph 5
A. Enjoy. B. Avoid. C. Take. D. Find.
30. Which is the best title for the text
A. The analysis of people’s preferred TV advertisements.
B. The analysis of people’s favorite way of watching TV.
C. The analysis of advertisers’ favorite TV watching time.
D. The analysis of advertisers’ suggestions to TV viewers.

In 1997, Bill Gates used $100 million dollars to build the first smart phone. People thought it was amazing! But today, many people have smart homes.
These homes are not usual. The technology to change your home into a smart home is very simple. You only need one tiny computer chip (芯片). This very small chip can make a connection between your smart phone and everything in your house that uses electricity.
For example, many people use smart-home technology for the lights in their houses. In a smart home, the lights go on when you enter a room and they go off when you leave the room. There is no reason to have the lights on in a space that has no people! Smart-home technology helps you use less electricity, so you save money.
Some people also use smart-home technology for things in their kitchens. Are you worried that you forgot to turn off the oven before you left the house No problem! Even if you are far away from home, you can turn it off with your smart phone.
Smart homes also help people to feel safe in their homes. Do you hear a strange sound outside your house Relax. Your smart phone can tell you if it is a person or just a dog or other animals. And if it’s a person, the smart phone will call the police.
A smart home does many things for you, so you can just relax and feel comfortable in your high-tech home!

An Unforgettable Experience with My Family
Last winter holiday, my family and I had an unforgettable experience. My parents took me to a village for three days.
On the first day, we went to the forest near the village and saw many lovely rabbits and squirrels. The next day, my mother taught me how to make dumplings in a family. She patiently guided me through every step. On the last day, my family went skating on a frozen lake near the village. It’s my first time skating and I’m a little nervous. However, with the help and encouragement of my parents, I slowly got the hang of it. I felt very happy.
This winter holiday has taught me the importance of spending quality time with my family and trying new things. At the same time, it makes me understand my parents better. I decide to be more helpful and considerate to them in future.

⑥For all these reasons I think that it is better to grow up on a farm than to grow up in the city.
A To introduce the ways to live on the farm and in the city.
B. To help parents to have a better understanding of country life.
C. To explain the reasons why it’s good for kids to live on the farm.
D. To invite children to learn many outdoor skills and farm knowledge.
26. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.
27 Which of the following is the second most popular way of watching TV
A. Live TV. B. On demand. C. DVR.
