(2023·新高考Ⅰ卷·高考真题)Personal Forgiveness
Taking responsibility for mistakes is a positive step, but don’t beat yourself up about them. To err (犯错) is human. 1 You can use the following writing exercise to help you do this.
In a journal or on a piece of paper, put the heading “Personal strengths.” 2 Are you caring Creative Generous A good listener Fun to be around They don’t have to be world-changing, just aspects of your personality that you’re proud of.

You could ask a friend or family member to help add to your list. 4 That way, you could exchange thoughts on what makes each of you special and the aspects of your personality that shine through. In fact, don’t wait until you’ve made a mistake to try this — it’s a great way to boost self-confidence at any time.

(2023·新高考ⅠⅠ卷·高考真题)As an artist who shares her journey on social media, I’m often asked by curious followers how to begin an art journey. Unfortunately, there is no magic list I can offer. I do remember, though, what it was like to be a complete beginner. So I’ve put together some good tips for starting an art journey.
·Start small. I suggest using a sketchbook (素描本) for small studies. These small studies provide inspiration and may be a springboard for more complex works in the future. 6 You’ll want to look back on your journey to see how far you’ve come.
·Paint often and paint from life. There’s no better way to improve than to put in those brush miles. Whether you paint still lifes, portraits, or landscapes, paint from life as much as possible. 7
·Continually challenge yourself to try something new. 8 Artistic growth can be a bit painful. Welcome to the club;we’ve all been there. I love taking on challenges. I once took up a challenge to create a painting every day for a month and post the works online.
· 9 Seeking and accepting constructive feedback (反馈) is crucial to growth. I post my work on social media and, in turn, have met some of the kindest people. They make me feel valued and respected, no matter my level of artistic ability.
The journey you’re on won’t follow a straight path. 10 Push through, give it time and put in the effort. You will harvest the rewards of an artistic life.
A.Get out of your comfort zone.
B.Make career plans and set goals.
C.Don’t throw away your beginner art.
D.Share your work if you feel comfortable doing so.
E.You’ll hit roadblocks, and you’ll feel discouraged at times.
F.Evaluate your performance and, if needed, redefine your role.
G.You’ll develop that painting muscle memory that only comes with repetition.
(2024·湖南常德·一模)One thing that’s never in short supply at the beginning of each new year 11 But many of us fail to stick with our New Year’s resolutions months (or even weeks) after making them. It turns out there are commonly avoided mistakes. That explains why some people always seem to reach their goals while others keep falling short.
12 If you fail to pick the right habit, you aren’t likely to accomplish the corresponding goal. Say you want to lose some weight this year, forming a habit of running 30 minutes a day may not help you do that if you don’t also form habits related to the foods you eat, because diet affects weight more than exercise. 13 Failure to establish habits that support your goals may cause your resolutions to flop before you begin.
Another common mistake people make when setting goals is becoming overly concerned about the amount of time it will take to form a new habit. There’s no one right answer when it comes to how long new habits should take to form. 14 Some people simply adopt new habits faster than other people and that complex habits usually take longer to form. Consider how easy it is to brush your teeth at night compared to reading a full chapter of a book each day.
So the yearly ritual of resolution setting doesn’t have to be an annual disappointment. Sometimes, the difference between success and failure is simply choosing the right habits and the process you use to go about achieving it. Most importantly, remember to be kind and flexible with yourself and to celebrate any and all progress along the way. 15
A.Good intentions.
B.Congratulations and best wishes.
C.In other words, you must also readjust your diet.
D.It’s essential to choose a habit you think enjoyable.
E.A common error many people make is not choosing right habits.
F.It depends on what habit you’re trying to develop and who you are.
G.It’s not just the end goal that matters—it’s the journey along the way.
(2024·湖北·二模)Get Better at Saying No
When rejecting a request, “no” is a short, simple word that can cause anxiety for the person trying to say it. The following strategies can help you get better at saying no. Be intentional about what you communicate.
16 Sure, but as psychologist Vanessa Bohns points out, only saying a “no” is often pretty uncomfortable for the asker. Instead, she advises communicating three things: “It’s not because of me, it’s not because of you, and it’s not because of us.” One way to do that is by thanking people for thinking of you. 17 Then, follow up with a short explanation: “I wish I could, but I just don’t have the time right now.” That helps make it clear that your “no” isn’t a poor reflection of your own character; it’s not the other person; and it’s not a disapproval of the relationship, Bohns says. Have a planned phrase for more informal encounters.
Not every situation, of course, calls for such a thoughtful approach. Think through times when you’ve gotten stressed over delivering a quick “no”, and then brainstorm phrases you could use in the future. Bohns, for example, is often asked to donate to some cause or another as she checks out at the grocery store. 18 “It’s true, and it’s a way of saying, essentially, that I’m still a good person,” she says. 19
There’s always that one guy who won’t take “no” for an answer. If someone is applying too much pressure, adopt what psychologist Ellen Hendriksen describes as the broken-record technique. 20 Occasionally, the asker will get annoyed, but usually after repeating yourself two or three times, even the most persistent (执着的) people will get the message.
A.She says no directly.
B.That is, stick to your answer.
C.Adopt the broken-record technique.
D.It’s not worth repeating your request again and again.
E.She now has a go-to response: “I already donated this year.”
F.You might hear that “no” is a convenient word for declining requests.
G.This makes them relieved that they didn’t do anything wrong by asking.
(23-24高三下·江西·阶段练习)It’s OK to do a little comfort shopping, especially in these tough times. 21 . Here are a few ways to start controlling that stress-spending and start saving a little smarter—today.
Make a budget. Don’t just think about it in your head. You have to write it down. If it’s not written down, then it’s not a budget. Once you’ve taken into account the necessities like food, shelter and savings, don’t forget to put aside some money for fun. Whether your fun budget is $5 a week or $50 a week, it’s important to set that money aside. Money is not just meant to be responsible with. 22 .
Before you reach for the fun-budget money, make sure that what you are buying is a love, a thing that will bring you lasting joy. 23 . Likes are short-term joy. It means you’ll forget these things in less than a year. Wants are just instant satisfaction and you’re not going to be interested in such things even a day later.
Sound familiar We have all purchased some wants — whether it’s a T-shirt or a bag that are now gathering dust in the closet, 24 , because not only you’re spending money that you don’t have, but you’re actually making your life less enjoyable.
25 . It’s a muscle that you just need to practise by creating a saving account that is disconnected from your mobile phone. So it isn’t convenient to stress-spend that hard-earned money.
A.These things may give you lasting joy
B.These wants are particularly damaging
C.Don’t worry if it doesn’t come easily at first
D.Be cautious about things you just like or want
E.You’re also supposed to use it as a tool to make your life enjoyable
F.But don’t let stress-spending get in the way of your long-term saving goals
G.Imaging your future self is a joyful way to think about saving for your future
(2024·山西·二模)Being more organized can change your life for the better and can even result-in you becoming more successful. After all, when you have things in order, you will be likely to get more done and achieve more of your goals. 26 . If you aim to enhance your organizational skills, consider using the following strategies.
●Create a To-Do List
Keeping a to-do list is crucial for staying organized and ensuring productivity throughout your day. You can choose traditional pen and paper methods or use phone apps and computer software programs to track tasks and receive reminders for deadlines. 27
●Keep a Schedule
It’s essential to maintain a schedule by recording important dates for tasks such as bill payments and project submissions. Additionally, keeping track of meetings and setting alerts beforehand ensures adequate preparation and timely attendance. 28
●Get Things Done Right Away
Procrastination (拖延症) is only going to cause you problems. 29 . Get things done as soon as you can, rather than putting them off until later on. Not only will this help you be more organized, but it will also reduce the amount of time you waste during the day.
●Set Priorities
30 . This means knowing what you want and not being sorry for taking time out for it. Everyone has priorities and they are all different, so it’s important to be true to yourself and what you want. (2024·辽宁辽阳·二模)What motivates you to work or study harder Is it the thought of success and all the amazing things that you can achieve, or is it the fear of failure and worry about all the things that can go wrong for you 31 But is one better than the other
A recent study looked at the effect of fear-based strategies on British secondary school students. It found that if a test is seen as important, and students are optimistic that they can succeed, then the fear of failure can be used successfully by teachers to motivate these learners. 32 In that case, it will in turn lead them to do worse on the test than they would have done otherwise. The study also found that if students are indifferent and don’t care about the test in the first place, then, unsurprisingly, the fear of failure is not likely to motivate them.
Entrepreneurs often run the risk of failure. It’s a fact that many new companies will fail. But does this motivate or hold back business people 33 The personal consequences of failure can be significant, and so founders may be motivated to work harder to avoid them. A study carried out on British and Canadian entrepreneurs found that fear of failure can improve problem solving, as people are motivated to anticipate and resolve potential issues. 34 However, the study also showed that it can lead to increased delay of work, as people focus too much on what they personally fear, rather than what would be best, for the business. If someone is less confident about their business ideas, then they may find their decision-making negatively affected by their fears.
35 Fear can drive confident people to do better, but it can also expand our doubts and turn them into barriers.
A.Again, it’s not straightforward.
B.The answer, undoubtedly, is “yes”.
C.Taken together, fear-based motivation is complicated.
D.Generally speaking, good outcomes can be expected by teachers.
E.They may also be inspired to innovate and activate their business.
F.However, if students lack confidence, fear-based approaches could cause anxiety.
G.Leaders, managers and teachers often use one of these ideas to inspire people to achieve more.

(2024·浙江杭州·二模)It’s no secret that reading good news feels a lot better than reading bad news. Like, would you rather bite into a lemon, or sip on a fresh glass of lemonade
41 The world is full of problems and conflicts and we need to stay informed and alert (警觉的) to what’s going on around us. While reading traditional, more negative news is important, consuming good news is also part of staying informed. 42 And it also brings meaningful benefits, like reduced stress and anxiety, higher rates of engagement, community building skills, and inspiration for creating a better world. Plus, knowing what to look for in the good news landscape is a key part of improving our media literacy skills and being thoughtful news consumers.
In fact, good news, known as solutions journalism, is becoming more popular, as publishers and news stations discover the benefits of sharing positive stories. Good Good Good is one of them. 43 A team of reporters and editors there work daily to deliver stories that make readers feel hopeful and equipped to do more good with possible solutions.
“If it bleeds, it leads.” has long been a saying used in the media to describe how news stories about violence, death and destruction draw readers’ attention. 44 The thing is, however, there’s also good stuff out there—the delightful and kind parts of humanity. “Beautiful stories are happening worldwide. 45 When you do find them, the world can suddenly feel like a very different place. (2024·山西晋中·模拟预测)Whether it is the flu or any of the other cold-like viruses rising in winter, it seems that stuffy noses and sore throats are common symptoms. You may have noticed, however, that your cold seems to get better or worse depending on the time of day. Most commonly, you wake up with worse symptoms. Then, they partially clear up throughout the day, only to get worse once more as you get to bed. 46
Currently, the leading idea is that symptom severity is linked to our circadian rhythm (昼夜节律). The circadian rhythm is very important for daily cellular processes. 47 It also plays a critical role in controlling the heart and the immune system.
48 This is why sleep is so important after you’ve been to the gym. This also applies when you are ill—the body floods the blood with white blood cells called leukocytes, resulting in and immune response against diseases and the immune system fighting infection.
This, therefore, explains why our cold symptoms get worse as we settle down for a night’s sleep. Cells infected by viruses are attracted to the local area and killed, causing soreness in the affected tissues, and mucus (鼻涕) floods the nose to join the fight. 49 You wake up feeling like death due to the battle happening within.
There are other reasons why you might feel worse at night. The first is simply gravity. When you lie down, your mucus builds up in the nose, causing pressure and headaches. 50 Another factor is about hormones. Hormonal imbalances can be caused by lack of sleep at night and could influence immune function, leading to a cycle of sleepless night s and then feeling worse.
A.Why does this happen
B.Others are reporting the same thing.
C.As you stand up, you start to feel better.
D.It’s a good thing, but it really doesn’t feel like it.
E.Gravity helps out a lot more when you are upright.
F.While resting, the body uses the downtime to recover.
G.And it can be affected by the amount of sleep and light we get each day.
(2024·北京·一模)“Find your passion!” When discussing future career options or selecting a major in college, your parents often say this. The very expression is meant to inspire. But is it good advice
“Finding” a passion implies that it already exists and is simply waiting to be discovered. Unfortunately, this idea is not what science tells us. 51
To study this, researchers use a framework of “fixed” and “growth” mindsets. They argue that encouraging people to “find” their passion may cause them to eventually believe that interests and passions are inborn and relatively unchangeable. 52 In contrast, people who view interests and passions as developed have a growth mindset of interest.
Researchers have revealed that a fixed mindset of interest can decrease creativity. If people believe they are limited to only a few inborn interests and, in consequence, do not explore other areas, they may miss seeing important connections across domains. 53
Evidently, people can do a lot to embrace a growth mindset of interest. First, realize that your interests and passions aren’t pre-existing. Take an active role in developing your passions. Second, practise positive self-talk. When you lack interest in a new task, pay attention to your inner dialogue. 54 For example, change “I’m not interested in this” to “I’m not interested in this yet, but I know that interest can develop with time and engagement.”
55 But a growth mindset of interest will help you remain open and curious. The science tells us we should work toward loving what we do. We might become more creative and resilient as a result.
A.So can a growth mindset of interest be taught
B.Instead passions, like interests, are developed.
C.People who think this have a fixed mindset of interest.
D.Of course, not every activity will become a burning passion.
E.As such, seeing interests as fixed limits their creative potential.
F.Don’t expect that pursuing new interests will always be easy or exciting.
G.Replace self-critical thoughts with positive ones that encourage growth and learning.
(2024·陕西咸阳·二模)In today’s world, where the consequences of climate change are becoming increasingly evident, the need for energy conservation has never been more pressing. 56 .
Use your laptop more than your desktop
Laptops use an average of 20 to 50 watts of electricity to run, whereas desktop computers use an average of 60 to 200 watts of electricity to run. The reason for this is that laptops run off of battery power and desktops are continuously plugged into a power source that drains energy.
57 . Not only does this help reduce your energy usage, but it also optimizes your laptop’s battery life to last longer.
Charge your phone in airplane mode and before bedtime
While charging, switch your phone to airplane mode, so that the phone does not slow down the charging process by continually burning energy trying to connect with cell phone towers and plot your location with its GPS function. When you switch to airplane mode your phone charges more quickly.
The brighter the screen setting, the more power it uses and vibration uses more energy than a ringtone. 58 , therefore less energy consumption. And remember-unplug your charger if not in use!
Unplug mobile phone and laptop chargers
Always unplug electronics and appliances when not in use. 59 . When the power strip is left on, the devices plugged into it continue to use energy and actually increase your energy usage. The Northern Resources Defense Council found that devices in sleep or standby mode account for about one- quarter of all residential energy consumption.
60
Reduce your carbon footprint by organizing your files and eliminating unnecessary data from cloud storage! Companies offering cloud data storage need warehouses filled with servers running nonstop. These data centers consume massive amounts of energy since they require AC systems to avoid overheating.
A.Low Power Mode also saves battery life
B.Delete unwanted files from cloud storage
C.Saving energy is now easier with these tips from UNICEF
D.Therefore, energy conservation has never been more pressing
E.Unused electronic appliances may produce harm to the environment
F.Deenergization will save you energy, money, and can prevent electrical fires
G.Make sure to unplug your laptop from the power source once it’s fully charged

(2024·内蒙古包头·二模)We all want to know what happiness means and try to find ways to help make our life better. Happiness — you know it when you see it, but it’s hard to define. You might call it a sense of well-being, optimism or meaningfulness in life, although those could also be treated separately. 71 we know that we want it, and that is just somehow good.
We also know that we don’t always have control over our happiness. Research suggests that genetics may play a big role in our level of happiness, so some of us may start out at a disadvantage. On top of that, environmental factors can bring down mood and dry up our thirst for living. 72 . Many studies have found a connection between psychological and physical well-being.
A 2022 review of more than 200 studies found a connection between positive psychological features, such as happiness, optimism and life satisfaction, and a lowered risk of heart disease.
73 . If you have a good sense of well-being, it’s easier to maintain good habits: exercising, eating a balanced diet and getting enough sleep.
74 , and they do not provide hard evidence of cause and effect. But some researchers believe that positive mental states do have a direct effect on the body, perhaps by reducing damaging physical processes. For instance, they found that optimism is associated with lower levels of inflammation (炎症).
If what you mean by happiness is specifically “enjoyment of life”, there’s newer evidence to support that, too. A study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal found that people aged 60 and over who said they enjoyed life less were more likely to develop disability over an 8-year period. 75 . This study does not prove that physical problems are caused by less enjoyment of life, but suggests a relationship.
A.But whatever happiness really is.

D.That refers to the person, and the situation he or she is in.
E.Being able to travel around was also related to enjoyment of life.

G.It’s not as simple as “you must be happy to prevent heart attacks”, though.

(2024·山西·模拟预测)Making decisions, big or small, can sometimes be difficult. We’ve all experienced indecisiveness. But you can get better at it with practice and time. Here are a few methods to try that may help you become more decisive.
Make decisions for yourself
86 Ultimately, if you trust your intuition(直觉), you will know what the right decision is. Nobody else can give you the correct answers on what’s best for you. Try not to allow others to be the decision-maker for you and your goals.
Let things go
The fear that comes with worrying about making the “wrong” decisions can make one lose his common sense. Try not to worry about mistakes. 87 Once you accept that things are not always in your control, making decisions will be much less threatening.
Talk it out
The simple act of speaking out loud will help lessen indecision and internal conflict. 88 Decisions can become less confusing and worrisome when we do so.
Outline the pros and cons
If you get stuck, draft a simple pro-con(支持-反对)list. 89 Mentally weighing the pros and cons is simply adding to the indecisiveness. Pro-con lists facilitate objective and sound decision-making.
Flip a coin
Of course, flipping(掷)a coin shouldn’t be used for big decisions, such as marriage. But this will work if it’s something as simple as what to order on the menu. This simple trick makes the decision for you. And, there are times when the coin lands the wrong way. 90
A.They’re a part of life.
B.A little practice also goes a long way.
C.If it feels right, voice your thoughts out loud.

E.Decision-making can have a negative impact on self-worth.
F.Asking 10 people about one topic will only confuse you further.

(2024·山东·一模)After a challenging workout, the last thing you probably want to do is spend five to ten minutes stretching. 96 Why is stretching so important and how often do you need to do it Here we are going to share what we have learnt from some experts.
When you think about exercise, most people participate in some type of aerobic (有氧的) activity that improves their cardiovascular (心血管的) endurance. 97 Those are two very important elements of a fitness program, but there’s also a third element. That is your flexibility and mobility, which is most often the one that’s ignored.
Stretching helps keep us mobile. We are born super mobile as babies and young children, but lose this as we grow into adults. 98 It means we are able to move less; we are functionally less able to do everyday stuff like picking up a pen from the floor, or climbing stairs efficiently.
99 It’s also going to help reduce the risk of injury. Some people are naturally more flexible than others, but no matter whether you can touch your toes or not, you should be working on your flexibility and mobility because the more moveless you are, the more your muscles are shortening, which in turn is causing you to be tighter.
When you get up, you maybe go for a quick walk to fill up your water bottle or get a cup of coffee, then come back and do a seated leg stretch or a standing version. 100
A.Why is stretching good for your healthy habits
B.Stretching makes for relieving muscle tension and pain.
C.When we stop stretching, we lose capacity in movement.
D.Walking, done in the right way, is a form of aerobic exercise.
E.It won’t take much time to add these habits into your daily routine.
F.However, doing so can result in physical and mental health benefits.
G.They also do weight training to help maintain muscle mass and build strength.
