Ian McKenna was in third grade when he learned that many kids at his Austin school weren't getting enough to eat at home. He wanted to help, but local volunteer organizations turned him away, saying he was too young. So he decided to find his own solution. For years, he had been gardening with his mother, and they often distributed their extra vegetables to the neighbors. “Why not give the produce to a soup kitchen Then I thought, I'm good at gardening , ” says McKenna, now 16. “Why not plant a garden at school, so that kids in need could take food home? ”
McKenna persuaded his school to set aside space for a garden, then he asked the community for donations of seeds and equipment. Other students donated their time. Within months, McKenna's garden was producing lettuces, tomatoes, cucumbers and
squash for students and their families. Now, seven years later, McKenna's Giving Garden Project has expanded to five area schools in addition to his own backyard garden, and he has provided organic produce, enough for 25,000 meals, to Austin families.
For most of his gardening activities, McKenna wears the same T-shirt in different colors, with his personal motto on it: BE A GOOD HUMAN. To him ,that means helping in any way you can, no matter what your age. “Even a smile might change someone's life , ” he says. “It lets them know that they are important. It can make their day. ”
When COVID-19 hit the U .S., McKenna redoubled his efforts, cooking up to 100 meals to distribute to the hungry on the weekends. When social distance meant that volunteers couldn't work on community garden plots, he started offering online classes and a gardening hotline so families could grow at home. While gardening is his core focus, McKenna says he is always looking for new ways to help the hungry.

( 一)]Recently, scientific research suggests that mental health disorders affect up to 35 percent of top athletes at some stage of their careers. This can range from tiredness and eating disorders to depression and anxiety.
The causes can be highly varied, with studies pointing to a range of contributing factors from poor sleep to selection pressures and early retirement due to injury.
American Simone Biles is widely considered to be the greatest gymnast (体操运 动员) in the United States. When the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games began, she was expected to win five gold medals. But on July 27th, she pulled out of the team final. She made the choice after having trouble landing after her vault ( 跳 跃 ) in the competition's first round. Later she said her mind was not in the right place to let her safely perform the difficult moves she is known for. In other words, her mind was not letting her body do what it needed to do. Cameras caught her telling her trainers during the team final, “I just don't trust myself. ”
Biles is not the only Olympian in recent months to talk about the pressure and mental effects of competing at the highest level. Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka lost in the second round of Olympic competition. She said she felt extreme pressure to win for Japan, where the Olympics were taking place.
Few coaches and officials in sports have an expert on understanding of mental health and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) also recognizes that there is a great need for practical assessment tools that can be used by medical professionals and anyone looking after athletes to protect athletes' mental health.
“Mental health issues should be discussed more openly in sport, because athletes are always concerned about selection, and they want to appear as strong as possible , ” Scientific Director Dr. Richard Budgett says. “But in the end this may have negative effects, so we need to recognize the symptoms so that athletes can get proper management and help when they need them. ”
28 .What is the scientific research about
A .Athletes' living habits. B .Athletes' mental health.

A .She was in a bad state of mind. B .She was badly hurt in the first round.
C .She was not good at the difficult moves. D .She did not live up to her trainers' requirements.
30.What can be a solution to athletes' mental health issues according to the IOC
A .Recognizing the symptoms. B .Discussing the issues privately.
C .Adopting suitable evaluation tools. D .Offering professional training to
coaches.
31 .What is the author's purpose of writing the text
A .To introduce two outstanding athletes.
B .To warn athletes about the danger of anxiety.
C .To draw people's attention to athletes' mental health.
D .To explain the importance of hard training to success.

The efforts of authorities in Yunnan to safely guide the elephants back home began to show signs of success in early June. After arriving in the area near Kunming in early June, the elephants finally turned around and began to move southward. “Asian elephants need to live in warm areas and the further north they travel, the less friendly the climate will be for them , ” said Chen Mingyong, a professor of ecology and the environment at Yunnan University. “We need to guide them toward their proper habitat before the temperature begins to go down. ”
The elephants' return journey has not been much different to their journey north, adding more details to the elephant family's drama. On June 6th, a bull elephant under 10 years old suddenly broke away from the herd (兽群) and made off on its own. Shen Qingzhong, head of an institute, guessed the act may have occurred because the young elephant is in the rebellious (叛逆的) puberty time.
Right now, the 14 remaining elephants are lingering in the mountainous area surrounding Shijie Township in the city of Yuxi. They have been there for over eight days, with the young elephant remaining around 20 km away with no sign of returning soon.
“Maybe the 14 elephants are waiting for the single elephant to rejoin , ” Shen said. “Or maybe there are more diverse foods in the farmland in this area and they want to enjoy them longer. ”
Professor Chen explained that the command center's intention is to guide the elephants back to Pu'er or Xishuangbanna. “For that to happen, they must pass through the Yuanjiang River , ” Chen said. “The water level in the river is currently higher due to the rains and the elephants might have to wait in Yuxi for a
long time. If that is the case, it might be winter before the elephants finally return to their original habitat. ”

Aram and Rossi's Bakery
Walking along the narrow brick sidewalk, Aram took a deep breath. The air smelled of lemons and baked bread and coffee, coming from Rossi's Italian Bakery. He was almost there.
Aram still couldn't believe his luck. All his friends were doing boring summer jobs—waiting tables and babysitting. And here he was, about to start as an actual baker's assistant, doing what he loved. It was all thanks to his aunt Rita. She knew Mrs Rossi and had arranged everything. It was a perfect experience for his future career. Rossi's Italian Bakery, he was sure, would one day be known as the place where he got his start.
Ah, here he was—the bakery. A faded wooden sign over the door read “Rossi's Italian Bakery ”. Aram straightened his shoulders and entered. Mrs Rossi was sitting at the counter, looking old and wise. Aram greeted her and stuck out his hand. Mrs Rossi looked at it for a second before turning around and waving him inside. “I'm ready to learn everything , ” Aram said.
“Great. Let's start with the cash register , ” Mrs Rossi said, “because that's what you'll be doing. ” She showed him how to use the cash register. It wasn't hard. The pastry trays were all marked by price, and there weren't that many choices anyway. “That's it? ” Aram said, his heart sinking. “But when do we bake? ”
“Bake I order bread and cakes wholesale now. No more baking. I'm too old. ” Then Mrs Rossi silently held up her hands. Aram took in her knotted, swollen fingers, and he understood. A wave of disappointment struck him. Sadness overwhelmed him so suddenly that he couldn't think of a word to say.
He sighed, and Mrs Rossi sighed, too. “I used to bake it all. Bread and cakes. And no one did it better than me. But that was when these things worked , ” said Mrs Rossi, holding up her hands once more and glancing across the shelves filled with empty bottles labelled with names of the various ingredients ( 材料) she once used. Suddenly she came alive, waving her arthritic (患关节炎的) hands. “People used to line up around the corner. Everyone wanted my baked bread. ”

Text 10
After a year of preparing herself, Laura Dekker has been given permission to sail around the world. “I was so happy that I almost jumped into the water , ” Laura said, after learning of the court's decision.
The 14-year-old was born on a ship in the South Pacific, and currently lives with her father on a boat. When child protection agencies heard about her plan to sail alone, they took the case to court and prevented her from making such a dangerous voyage.
Since the decision, though, Laura had been preparing with her father to convince the court that she was ready. Later on, she received the books and other materials she would need for school while she was at sea. She added safety equipment to a new, big
boat. And she took first aid courses to learn survival skills, like how to put out fires on the boat, take care of her own injuries and deal with lack of sleep. She also planned a safer course—adding alternate routes to avoid pirate attacks, and planning a course that would have her on dry land as she moved from port to port across the globe.
Even with all of the added preparations, the trip still has its risks. In early June, 16-year-old Abby Sunderland, an American, had to give up her attempt to become the youngest sailor to travel around the world. The mask of her boat broke due to rough waters in the Indian Ocean, and she was rescued by a French fishing ship.
Laura plans to take longer than Abby for her voyage, and is using a larger and more stable boat. If she finishes successfully in less than two years, she will take the title from the current record-holder Jessica Watson, of Australia, who was 16 when she completed the journey.
