Text 10一位玻璃艺术家的自述
M: Hello, my name’s Lukas Royle, and I’m a glass artist. Actually, I make pictures in glass, often very large ones. I must say that it wasn’t the career my parents had hoped I’d follow. According to them, a much more suitable thing to do was work as a mechanic. My father was a farmer, and he thought I should do something conventional, even if I didn’t follow in his footsteps.
I’ve always been artistic. I wouldn’t have gone to art school, though, unless I’d been encouraged to do so. My older brother and cousin used to tease me a bit when I preferred painting to climbing trees, but my sister was kinder. She said I was so good at art that I should definitely study it, and that gave me the confidence to apply.
I was lucky enough to find a job while I was still at art school. There was a furniture shop nearby. I went in and told them I specialized in making pictures in glass. I offered to produce some lamps for them. What I made sold well, and the shop owner was delighted, so that turned out to be very successful.
By the time I graduated from art school, I’d managed to save up a bit of money, so I could get all of the equipment I needed.I first rented a small studio and started my life as an independent artist. Though it can be hard work to make a living as an artist, it is also a very exciting time!

How can travel strengthen the humanbrain It's child's play.By the age of three, a child's brain has twiceas many synapses(突触)per neuron(神经元)than inadults. That's because as humans age, the brainremoves unused connections to makestronger ones; but doing new activities andhaving new experiences can help enhancethose connections at any age.
A 2009 study gave participants a uniquecreativity puzzle to solve involving a candle,a box of tacks and matches. The goal was to fix a lighted candle to a corkboard with nothing but those items. Most of the participants who had traveledand lived abroad demonstrated ameasurable increase in creativity. One of the reasons for this obviously is that living in another culture exposes you to newideas, to new people, to new stimuli(刺激); and that increases the amount of elements or bits of information that you can combine orrecombine in novel and original ways to come up withnew ideas.
Scientists used to believe that the brain wasunchangeable and only degraded with age.It wasn't until the 1960s that neuroscientist, Dr.Marian Diamond, proved the completeopposite. She found that if the body was in anenriched environment, the brain could be shaped by that environment and grow. She did this by placing some lab rats in amulti-sensory environment and others in abare environment. The rats that had spent more time in theenriched environment had more synaptic connections. So an enriched environment allows you todevelop more pathways; so that they'll bethere and available for you and they won'tbeprunedaway as you grow older.By accessing these environments andtravel, the mind can enter a complexemotional state known as awe.Awe is one of the most powerful perceptionswe have, and awe gives you the excitementand the ability to step to the very place weevolve to avoid which is not knowing. So it gives you the curiosity and the courageto step forward.
If you want to be changeable, adaptable, travel with openness andcourage and embrace theunknown. It may just transform your brain for thebetter.
28.What writing technique does the author use in Paragraph2
A.By comparison. B.By citing quotation.
C.By giving example. D.By giving definition
29.What can we infer from Dr.Marian Diamond’s proof
A.As humans age,the brains degrade.
B.Children are more creative than adults.
C.The brain can be shaped by the environment and grow.
D.Enriched environments help brain grow more synaptic connections.
30.What does the underlined phrase mean in paragraph3
A.faded B.deleted C. expanded D.increased
31.What does the passage mainly tell us
A.The relationship between body and mind.
B.Travel can help transform your brain for the better.
C.More synapses in neurons make people more creative.
D.Travel gives you the curiosity and the courageto embrace theunknown.

Art is everywhere. Any public space has been carefully designed by an artistic mind to be both functional and beautiful. Why, then, is art still so widely considered to be "the easy subject" at school, insignificant to wider society, a waste of time and effort
Art can connect culture with commercial products in a way that not many other things can; art generates money and holds significant emotional and cultural value within communities. When people attend a concert, they are paying for music, sure, maybe even hotel rooms, meals, and transport, but they also gain an incredible experience, a unique atmosphere and a memory that will go through the rest of their lives. People don't just want material things anymore, they want to experience life一the arts are a perfect crossover(交迭)between culture and commerce.
Furthermore, the arts can bring communities together, reducing loneliness and making people feel safer. Social bonds are created among individuals when they share their arts experiences through reflection and discussion, and their expression of common values through artworks in honour of events significant to a nation's experience.
The arts clearly have a pretty positive impact on physical and psychological health. It is found that people who frequent cultural places or participate in artistic events are more likely to gain good health compared to those who do not; more engagement with the arts is linked to a higher level of people's wellbeing. The Royal Society of Public Health discovered that music and art, when used in hospitals, help to improve the conditions of patients by reducing stress, anxiety and blood pressure.
Children who are involved with the arts make greater achievements in their education: those engaged with drama have greater literary ability while others taking part in musical practice exhibit greater skills in math and languages. Kids with preference for the arts have a greater chance of finding employment in the future. Participating in the arts is essential for child development; encouraging children to express themselves in constructive ways could help to form healthy emotional responses in later life.
Vital to human life, art is celebrated and used by nations across the world for various purposes. Life without art would be boring and dead still, for art is a part of what makes us human.

Although counting sheep is a common technique to aid sleep, some experts suggest engaging in mindless activities like folding laundry instead. 38 A study published in Sleep Health showed that individuals who walked more experienced better sleep.Listening to music likely improves sleep for more than one reason. Music can promote sleep directly by affecting your physiology (生理机能). 39 Besides, it can also promote sleep by becoming a healthy bedtime habit. Many people can’t fall asleep quickly because stressful and worrying thoughts keep them awake at night.
Eating habits can also affect sleep. Consuming certain foods and drinks before bedtime can improve the amount of REM sleep, which helps with memory consolidation and learning.
Snoring, while generally harmless, can be a sign of sleep apnoea, which can lead to serious health conditions such as strokes, irregular heartbeats, and high blood pressure. 40
Naps or power naps taken during the day can help us be more alert and focused. So, taking small breaks during the day to rest and recharge can boost productivity and energy levels.

My first stop was Suzhou.58(engage) myself in the local industrial atmosphere, I chose a hotel in the “industrial park”,59the coexistence(并存)of advanced manufacturing(制造业)and natural beauty was most evident, as it was located on the edge of a scenic lake, embraced by a vibrant(生机勃勃的)landscape. As I adventured into the heart of the city, the Old Town’s ancient waterways led me on an60(explore) of history, and the classical gardens offered a glimpse(窥探)into astoried past. However, 61 truly amazed me was the “energy of Suzhou” represented by its people who have enormous respect for their city’s time-honored history as well as62innovative eye on the future.
Actually, the mindset of modernization with deep respect for the past isn’t only unique to Suzhou63an indicative(标志性)factor of Nanjing.
