In many cultures, shaking hands when meeting for the first time is the most common way of greeting. It’s widely accepted.
Kissing on the cheeks is a more intimate(亲密的) greeting method, usually used among familiar people, especially among friends and family. When meeting someone for the first time, kissing on the cheeks may appear too intimate or inappropriate.
