By the end of the class, we will be able to:
Look at the following photos and try to describe what life was like in the past.
In the past,bicycles and buses were the most common modes of transportation. Cellphones, computers, and televisions were bulky(体积大的) and heavy. People used to go outside to take a cool break during the hot summer.
Here are some photos about present life.
Look and describe.
Today, people often drive cars, take buses or subway for work. Cellphones, computers, and televisions become smarter and thicker.
There are air-conditioners in the house, so people stay at home for rest in the hot summer.
Compare the life today with that in the past.
E.g.
1. In the past, people rode their bicycles in the street.
Today, people drive their cars in the street.
2. In the past, people watched the black-and-white television.
Today, people watch the color television.
With time passing by, the life has changed. Have you noticed what have changed around you You can write down what have changed according to the following aspects.

The history teacher asked Betty and Daming to write an essay about life in the past and life today. Listen to a conversation and answer the questions.

(1)肯定式: as+ adj./ adv. +as…“和……一样”。

(2)否定式: not as/so +adj./ adv. +as…结构。
E.g.

(3)当as ... as中间有名词时,用以下结构:

used to:if something used to happen, it happened regularly or all the time in the past, but does not happen now 过去常常
E.g. Tom used to exercise every day. 汤姆过去每天都锻炼。
辨析: used to do sth. be used to doing sth. 与 be used to do sth.
used to do sth. 过去经常 做某事 used to 后跟动词原形, 用于描述过去经常做的事情。
be used to doing sth. 习惯于 做某事 be used to 后要跟名词、代词、动名词, be used to 同get used to, become used to。
be used to do sth. 被用于 做某事 该结构是被动结构, 同be used for doing sth. 。

辨析: the number of 与 a number of
the number of ……的数量 “the number of+ 名词/ 代词复数”作主语时, 谓语动词用单数形式。

spare/free time 业余(空闲) 时间;闲暇

Tips:
Why don’t you do sth. ?常用来向对方提出建议,相当于“Why not do sth. ?”。
常用的肯定答语:Good idea./ Sounds great./All right./Sure.等;
否定答语:No, let’s.../Sorry, but I have to... 等。
7. Remember to speak up!
remember to do sth. 记得去做某事
辨析: remember to do sth. 与 remember doing sth.
remember to do sth. 意为“ 记得去做某事”, 指事情还未做。 E. g. Remember to invite Tom to your birthday party.
记得邀请汤姆参加你的生日聚会。
remember doing sth. 意为“ 记得做过某事”, 指事情已经做了。 E. g. I remember inviting him this morning, but he was too busy to come. 我记得今天早晨邀请过他了, 可他太忙不能来了。
