宾语从句
在复合句中作宾语的从句叫宾语从句。宾语从句可以由从属连词,连接代词或连接副词引导。
宾语从句的引导词包括that, whether, if 和疑问词。其中that,whether和if在从句中不作任何成分。
E.g.
(1) I hear (that) he has passed the exam. 我听说他通过了考试。
(that可以省略,它在句子中不作任何成分)
(2) I don’t think he can pass the exam. 我认为他不会及格的。
(think后的that一般都省略不用, believe, suppose也是如此。)
(whether/if连接主句 We don’t know 和从句,它不作任何成分,但不可以省略)
(4) I know who did the good deed. 我知道谁做的这件好事。
(who 既作连接代词,又在从句中作主语)
(5) You must take back what you said.你必须收回你所说的话。
(what既作连接代词,又在从句中作谓语动词said的宾语)
(6) Our teacher asked me why I was late. 我们老师问我为什么迟到。
(why在从句中作原因状语)
(3) I wonder whether/if he passed thge eaxm.
我想知道他通过考试了没有。
宾语从句
宾语从句中的时态
(1) I don’t know where we will go for the holiday.
我不知道我们要去哪里度假。
(2) He asked where we would go for the holiday.
他问我们要去哪里度假。
(3) I always think they’re for people whose English is already quite good. 我一直以为这些俱乐部是为那些英语已经说得很好的人开办的。
(4) I always thought they were for people whose English is aleady quite good.
我原来一直以为这些俱乐部是为那些英语说得很好的人开办的
如果主句谓语动词的时态为现在时或将来时,宾语从句的谓语动词可以根据句意的需要使用任何时态
如果主句的谓语动词为过去时态,宾语从句中的谓语动词使用相应的过去时态。
如果宾语从句叙述的是真理、实际情况或经常发生的事情时,即使是主句的谓语为过去时态,从句的谓语动词仍要保留一般现在时。
宾语从句中的时态
E.g.
In the past, people didn’t know that the earth moves around the sun.
过去人们不知道地球围绕太阳转。
I didn’t know you like classical music.
我过去不知道你喜欢古典音乐。
宾语从句中的语序
(1) 陈述句变为宾语从句时,语序不变。
He is an honest man.
I said (that) he was an honest man. (从属连词that可省略)
(2)一般疑问句变为宾语从句时,语序要变为陈述句语序,用if/whether连接宾语从句。
Does he study hard
I wonder if/whether he studies hard.
(3) 特殊疑问句变为宾语从句时,语序要变为陈述句语序,用连接代词或连接副词(即保留原来的疑问词)连接宾语从句。
Which skirt do you like best
My mother asked me which skirt I liked best.

两个简单句 There was a young man. + He liked adventure.
主从复合句 There was a young man who liked adventure.

定语从句需注意的事项
关系代词和介词
(1) 介词位于关系代词的前面时
当介词位于关系代词的前面时,介词宾语只能用whom代人,which代物,而且关系代词一律不能省略。
E.g. This is the hero of whom we are proud.
这就是我们引以为荣的英雄。
(whom不能省略,不能用who代替)
Wang Ming wants to find the very pen with which I wrote
that letter.
(which在介词的后面,不能省略,更不能用that代替)
(2) 介词位于句子的末尾时,可以用that/whom/who代人和that/which代物,作介词的宾语,且往往可以省略。
E.g. This is the hero we are proud of.

(1)当关系代词在限定性定语从句中担任动词宾语时
E.g.
The people (who, whom, that) we met at the party were very friendly to us.
关系代词在从句中作动词met的宾语,可省略
(2) 当there be句型中或和先行词为way时
E.g. There is an old man (who) wants to meet you.
(即使关系代词在从句中作主语,也可省略)
I don’t like the way (that) you talk to somebody else.

Around the world
Junior high school dances
In the US, students often have a school dance to celebrate the end of junior high. There is usually a student committee which organises the dance. They decorate the school gym with balloons, lights and other things so that it looks very nice. They plan the music and organise the food. Sometimes the parents help make the food and sometimes it comes from a restaurant. The girls usually wear pretty dresses and the boys wear smart clothes. They eat, dance and sometimes have competitions. The dance is usually supervised by teachers and parents.
Module task: Making plans for your future
8. Think about your life in the future. Make notes about the following things:
● what you are planning to do in the next three years
● what you would like to do after that
● what other areas of your life you want to develop
● what sort of values you think will be important to you
Use your notes to write sentences.
Join your sentences and write a passage about your future plan.
