①Last month, we asked you to send us your ideas about grandparents. We received some
very interesting answers. Some of you describe your grandparents as friends. They are the
people you talk to when you have to talk to an adult, but you don't want to talk to your mum
or dad. They help you; they're there for you and they don't disagree with you. But there are a
few of you who have grandparents who live in different towns, or even abroad, so you don't
see them very often. Grandparents are special people and we love ours! Here's what you say.
②Linda, from China, expressed her deep love for her grandma. She considers her
grandma to be a very special person in her family. She lives a few streets away from her
grandma, so when she wants to be on her own, she usually walks to her grandma's house.
What she likes most is that her grandma never asks questions. They enjoy doing lots of
things together too, like cooking. At the moment, her grandma is teaching her to make her
favorite dish, which was passed down by her own grandmother. Although it's quite hard to
do, Linda loves sharing these moments with her grandma.
③ Andy, from the USA, loves his granddad. He believes his granddad is the best because
he can keep secrets, provide help and is really funny. They have lots of fun together and
share many common interests. Climbing is one such interest they both enjoy. Andy admires
his granddad's climbing skills, and no one would guess that he is in his sixties.
④Boris comes from the UK and faces the challenge of having grandparents who live in
another country. They visit only once every three years, which makes it difficult for Boris to
set up a strong connection with them. During his grandparents' visits, they don't really know
what to talk about. They ask about school and things like that. That's usually the first week.
By the second week though, things are a bit better and it's more natural. Boris remembers his
grandpa doing silly things, like making faces when his mum wasn't looking during their
younger days and he still does that sometimes. However, as his grandparents have grown
older, Boris wants them to live closer.
( ) 23. How does Linda describe her relationship with her grandmother
A. They see each other only on special days.
B. They live nearby and enjoy shared activities.
C. They seldom communicate with each other.
D. They are not friendly enough to each other.
( ) 24. How does Boris feel about his grandparents living in another country
A. He doesn't care as he has a busy life.
B. He feels upset as they have little to share.
C. He feels happy as they have more to share.
D. He hopes to be closer to have more to share.
( ) 25. What is the author's main purpose of writing this article
A. To encourage kids to value their grandparents more.
B. To talk about different grandparent-grandchild relationships.
C. To complain about parents compared to grandparents.
D. To argue for grandparents to live closer to their grandchildren.
( ) 26.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.
(D)
“I was attacked by a dog outside in our neighborhood!” Grandma Li told the neighbors in
a scared voice. Just as the dog was about to reach her, a young couple appeared and
prevented any harm. The owner, who was standing about 50 meters away, called the dog
back and left without saying anything. It made the neighbors uneasy, and they talked about
whether they should call the police for help. But after thinking about how the police had
dealt with similar cases in the past, they gave up.
Studies show that there are more than 80 million pet dogs in China, and about 40 million
people are attacked by dogs and cats every year. It's surprising that dogs are responsible for
half of these attacks, and 90% of the victims (受害者)are either the owners of the dogs or
their family members. This means that around 2 million people who are not part of the dog
owners' families are attacked by dogs each year.
An even more worrying problem is that the present laws don't give the police enough
power to deal with these cases effectively. When a dog attack happens, the police can only
ask the owners not to walk their dogs in public areas and tell them to pay for the medical
expenses(费用)of the victims. If the owners refuse, thevictims are told to consider taking
legal action against them. But evenif the victims win their cases, the dog owners may only
have to pay a small amount of money. For victims like Grandma Li, who didn't suffer(遭
受)bites but still went through a scary experience, the most the police can do is to tell the
dog owners to say sorry publicly.
So one possible solution is to think about making dog owners pay a lot of money if their
dogs attack someone . In some countries, the amount of money a dog owner has to pay for a
dog bite can be as high as $30,000! By increasing the amount of compensation(赔偿金),
dog owners will be more likely to keep their dogs under control when they are in pulic
spaces.
( ) 27. Why does the writer use the story of Grandma Li at the beginning of the story
A. To introduce the characters. B. To interest the readers.
C. To show the background. D. To tell the latest news.
( ) 28. Why is it difficult for the police to deal with the dog attacks
A. Because they don't have enough cars. B. Because they need more officers.
C. Because they don't have the right laws. D. Because they have too many cases.
( )29.What's the writer's opinion towards the idea of increasing the compensation amount
A. Confused. B. Doubtful. C. Negative. D. Supportive.
( )30. Which of the following is the right structure of the article
A. Story-Facts-Problem-Possible Solution. B. Story-Numbers-Rules-Answer.
C. Background-Story-Rule-Solution. D. Story-Facts-Opinions-Solution.

①Last month, we asked you to send us your ideas about grandparents. We received some very interesting answers. Some of you describe your grandparents as friends. They are the people you talk to when you have to talk to an adult, but you don't want to talk to your mum or dad. They help you; they're there for you and they don't disagree with you. But there are a few of you who have grandparents who live in different towns, or even abroad, so you don't see them very often. Grandparents are special people and we love ours! Here's what you say.
②Linda, from China, expressed her deep love for her grandma. She considers her grandma to be a very special person in her family. She lives a few streets away from her grandma, so when she wants to be on her own, she usually walks to her grandma's house. What she likes most is that her grandma never asks questions. They enjoy doing lots of things together too, like cooking. At the moment, her grandma is teaching her to make her favorite dish, which was passed down by her own grandmother. Although it's quite hard to do, Linda loves sharing these moments with her grandma.
③ Andy, from the USA, loves his granddad. He believes his granddad is the best because he can keep secrets, provide help and is really funny. They have lots of fun together and share many common interests. Climbing is one such interest they both enjoy. Andy admires his granddad's climbing skills, and no one would guess that he is in his sixties.
④Boris comes from the UK and faces the challenge of having grandparents who live in another country. They visit only once every three years, which makes it difficult for Boris to set up a strong connection with them. During his grandparents' visits, they don't really know what to talk about. They ask about school and things like that. That's usually the first week. By the second week though, things are a bit better and it's more natural. Boris remembers his grandpa doing silly things, like making faces when his mum wasn't looking during their younger days and he still does that sometimes. However, as his grandparents have grown older, Boris wants them to live closer.
A. B. C. D.
(D)
“I was attacked by a dog outside in our neighborhood!” Grandma Li told the neighbors in a scared voice. Just as the dog was about to reach her, a young couple appeared and prevented any harm. The owner, who was standing about 50 meters away, called the dog back and left without saying anything. It made the neighbors uneasy, and they talked about whether they should call the police for help. But after thinking about how the police had dealt with similar cases in the past, they gave up.
Studies show that there are more than 80 million pet dogs in China, and about 40 million people are attacked by dogs and cats every year. It's surprising that dogs are responsible for half of these attacks, and 90% of the victims (受害者)are either the owners of the dogs or their family members. This means that around 2 million people who are not part of the dog owners' families are attacked by dogs each year.
An even more worrying problem is that the present laws don't give the police enough power to deal with these cases effectively. When a dog attack happens, the police can only ask the owners not to walk their dogs in public areas and tell them to pay for the medical expenses(费用)of the victims. If the owners refuse, thevictims are told to consider taking legal action against them. But evenif the victims win their cases, the dog owners may only have to pay a small amount of money. For victims like Grandma Li, who didn't suffer(遭受)bites but still went through a scary experience, the most the police can do is to tell the dog owners to say sorry publicly.
So one possible solution is to think about making dog owners pay a lot of money if their dogs attack someone . In some countries, the amount of money a dog owner has to pay for a dog bite can be as high as $30,000! By increasing the amount of compensation(赔偿金),dog owners will be more likely to keep their dogs under control when they are in pulic spaces.
( ) 27. Why does the writer use the story of Grandma Li at the beginning of the story
A. To introduce the characters. B. To interest the readers.
C. To show the background. D. To tell the latest news.
( ) 28. Why is it difficult for the police to deal with the dog attacks
A. Because they don't have enough cars. B. Because they need more officers.
C. Because they don't have the right laws. D. Because they have too many cases.
( )29.What's the writer's opinion towards the idea of increasing the compensation amount
A. Confused. B. Doubtful. C. Negative. D. Supportive.
( )30. Which of the following is the right structure of the article
A. Story-Facts-Problem-Possible Solution. B. Story-Numbers-Rules-Answer.
C. Background-Story-Rule-Solution. D. Story-Facts-Opinions-Solution.
