A lecture on campus safety
Aimed at raising students' awareness of self-protection, a lecture on campus safety was delivered by Zhang Peng, a well-known education expert, in our school hall last Saturday morning.
The lecture covered various potential forms of danger that might occur on campus such as accidents, fire and earthquakes. The lecturer spent much time explaining what we should do when faced with those emergencies. At the end of the lecture, he stressed the importance of staying calm and taking quick action.
Many students believed this lecture was quite instructive and helpful, from which they learned some practical tips to protect themselves.

I am honored to be chosen as the student representative to give a speech about the upcoming sports meeting. The annual sports meeting is scheduled to be held in two weeks. Seventeen events will be included such as long-distance races, relay races, the high jump and the shot put.
It is high time that we signed up for the events we are good at and made preparations for them. We are supposed to try our best to run faster, jump higher and throw farther, displaying good sportsmanship to the full.

Volunteering is important for society. However, many teenagers don't play an active role in it.
According to our survey, students don't volunteer mainly due to four reasons. 45% of students can't spare time due to heavy study loads. Meanwhile, a quarter of the students don't regard volunteering as a platform to show their capacity fully. 20 percent don't know where to volunteer while 10 percent can't afford the expenses such as transport fees.
In my opinion, these reasons shouldn't stop us from volunteering. I suggest that schools and parents attach more significance to volunteering so that more students can turn their enthusiasm into action.

Notice
Our English club will hold a Chinese Idiom Stories in English Essay Competition.
Each entry is expected to describe one Chinese idiom story vividly in English and the entry can't go beyond 500 words. If the competition appeals to you, please email your entry to Englishclub@ by this Saturday. Based on five professional judges' decisions, the competition will have a first prize, two second prizes and five third prizes. The prize money will be shared among authors accordingly. Besides, all the winning entries will be published in the school English newspaper.

Each family has its own rules. I regard household rules as a way to improve our quality of life rather than restricting it.
In my family, the most important household rule is to be honest. We shouldn't tell lies and play tricks on others no matter what the situation is. Furthermore, I have been taught not to waste food for the simple reason that it is precious.
Household rules make a great difference to me. Not only do they help develop my character, but they also account for the unique atmosphere in my family.

Chinese cuisine is rich and diverse, varying in style and taste. It's developed into eight major regional cuisines: Shandong Cuisine, Sichuan Cuisine, Guangdong Cuisine, Jiangsu Cuisine, Fujian Cuisine, Zhejiang Cuisine, Hunan Cuisine and Anhui Cuisine. Of course, there are many other local cuisines that are famous, like Beijing Cuisine and Shanghai Cuisine. Beijing Roast Duck is my favorite food. Last Saturday morning, I heard a speech. The speech, which is on the theme of how to deal with challenges in life, was delivered by a disabled artist. When the man in a wheelchair appeared on the stage, thousands of students immediately went silent and listened attentively. The speaker told his stories in a natural and friendly way. Many students were moved to tears by the efforts he had made to become a master of traditional Chinese painting.
I felt that the speech was very inspiring and have decided to learn from the artist and fight against difficulties in life with a positive mind.
