With the development of technology, life is made much easier when you travel around. Here are some top travel apps for you to use.
Yelp When you are in a new location and need a quick recommendation, Yelp comes in handy. It gives insights into the quality of businesses and services, from restaurants to the way in which they work, based on user reviews. The users can certainly make unfair judgements for personal reasons at times, but Yelp often at least lets you get a sense of what to expect. Zomato In China, there is a good chance you have never heard of Zomato. In some countries, however, it is more popular than Yelp, and it covers the same ground. Zomato is a remarkable crowd-sourced review website, mostly for restaurants. In some regions, you can order delivery food through Zomato, too.
Happy Cow If you are a person who doesn’t eat meat or fish, or even doesn’t use animal products such as meat, milk or eggs or if you are only looking for a healthy meal option after eating not-so-healthy meals for several days in a row, you are sure to appreciate Happy Cow. The app and web- site help you find restaurants, cafes, health food stores, and other places to get a meat-free meal. Tripadvisor You can read different reviews of hotels, restaurants and even activities, written by members of the Tripadvisor community, as well as see photos they have uploaded so you know what to expect before you arrive. Tripadvisor has relationships with various booking sites, too, which means once you finish researching hotels or restaurants, you can usually reserve them with just a few extra clicks.
21. What do Yelp and Zomato have in common
A. They provide delivery services quickly.
B. They expect users to promote their services.
C. They only recommend hotels and restaurants.
D. They base their recommendations on user reviews.
22. Which app suits the person who doesn’t eat meat
A. Yelp. B. Happy Cow. C. Tripadvisor. D. Zomato.
23. What sets Tripadvisor apart from other travel apps
A. It is offered free of charge. B. It is linked to booking platforms.
C. It recommends nearby attractions. D. It gives correct hotel rating information.

The public footpath lay barely 20 meters from where I stood, promising a walk along the river, passing fields and through woodland, well away from any road. Yet there was something in my way-the River Thames, whose water runs very fast.
I checked my map to see how to reach the path, but there was no other footpath that would lead me to the island on which it sat. It was only accessible by boat.
It was this path that came to mind when, a few weeks later, I decided to try cross-country swimming, which combines water and walking.
As I got into the river-its coolness was welcome on the warm August day-the weight of my supplies dissipated. My back was free, and I simply pulled everything I needed in a bag behind me, feeling almost weightless. I relaxed into the water, my hair flowing around my face as I slowly floated alongside dragonflies, a moorhen (黑水鸡) and her chicks-none of which seemed to even acknowledge my presence.
The whole experience went by all too quickly and in no time I was drying off and walking back to the station. Though cross-country swimming was invented to provide a challenge, I believed it had given me something much more important- the confidence to try it by myself.
So I decided to return to my inaccessible island, the footpath by the Thames. I got into the waterway and swam, exploring the island’s banks for a while. After 5 minutes of searching, the island let me in: I found my entrance point alongside a tree and pulled myself out.
Though the Thames loop wasn’t that long a walk, and the swim was not too big a challenge, it represented more than that. It gave me the chance to pioneer a new route never open to me before, the opportunity to reach a picnic spot that otherwise would have been off limits and, when it came to that footpath, the ability to access the previously inaccessible.
24. What initially prevented the author from reaching the public footpath
A. Overgrown fields. B. A thick woodland.
C. A fast-flowing river. D. A lack of road map.
25. What does the underlined word “dissipated” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Spread. B. Remained. C. Disappeared. D. Increased.
26. Which word best describes the author’s cross-country swimming experience
A. Thrilling. B. Encouraging. C. Embarrassing. D. Disappointing.
27. What does finding the footpath to the island mean to the author
A. An escape from the real world. B. A chance to get close to nature.
C. A mental and physical pressure. D. A symbol of personal achievement.

My husband made a little two-story house that mirrored our own in color and design for our Little Free Library, while I carefully selected books from our shelves. The idea struck us immediately-instead of loading boxes into the car for yet another used book sale, we could simply walk them to the roadside.
Fifteen or so years later, it’s safe to say that thousands of books, as well as the occasional DVDs, CDs and jigsaw puzzles have been shared through our little library. Located on a busy street just a few blocks from a subway station, our little library sees dozens, perhaps hundreds, of passers-by each day.
Many of those who use our library do not hesitate to share their love of this neighborhood resource. One gentleman regularly stops by to pick up books for a nearby retirement home. At other times, we have received cards and gifts, including chocolates and even a personalized sketch (素描) from a local artist.
Like the people who use our library, the books that come and go reflect the broad diversity of our city. Arabic, French and Russian books are the large part among the dominant English-language books. I have even collected favorite books of mine in languages I don’t understand, simply for the joy of adding another edition to my collection. Surprisingly, our library hasn’t solved our book storage problem-if anything, we now have more books than ever before.
I have heard some complaints that Little Free Libraries do not always serve the purpose of building community and may compete with our public libraries and independent bookstores. This has not been our experience. We continue to buy more books than we need and we are fiercely loyal users of the public system. Our Little Free Library has enhanced our love of reading and has connected us to a community of book lovers in the heart of our busy neighborhood.
28. Why did the author and her husband build the Little Free Library
A. To prepare for used book sales. B. To make friends with book lovers.
C. To deal with their unwanted books. D. To make use of community resources.
29. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. People’s care for the elderly. B. The friendship between library users.
C. People’s love for the Little Free Library. D. The exploration of the community resources.
30. What does the Little Free Library reflect about the neighborhood
A. Its cultural diversity. B. Its storage problems.
C. Readers’ preferences. D. People’s reading habits.
31. How has the Little Free Library impacted the community
A. It has strengthened neighborhood connections.
B. It has become a meeting place for local artists.
C. It has weakened public libraries to some degree.
D. It has promoted the rise of independent bookstores.

Robots doing housework is nothing new with the latest achievements in robotics. Recently, a robot called Mobile Aloha caught the attention of many at the beginning of 2024, with short videos of it cooking at someone’s home becoming popular in January.
Developed by a team of researchers at Stanford University in the US, the robot can handle everything for a dish, whether it is cutting vegetables or cracking eggs. It also does well in various household tasks like watering plants, petting cats, cleaning the floor and doing washing. It even knows to shake the pillow (枕头) after putting on a pillowcase. An Internet user joked under one video that as long as this thing doesn’t try to kill him while he is asleep, he is in real need of it.
However, a following video posted by one of the researchers, Tony Zhao, and showing Mobile Aloha’s failures proved that the idea of having a robot servant may just be wishful thinking. In the video, Mobile Aloha randomly broke glasses and plates, crashed into cupboards and even burned a pot.
It turns out that Mobile Aloha is not a complete self-learning system that can independently deal with new environments. It relies on demonstrations by human operators in its surroundings, meaning that the robot needs to learn from human behavior before completing each task. Also, according to the team, the robot achieves a 95% success rate in removing red wine stains (污渍), 80% in pushing chairs, and a mere 40% in frying shrimp. In short, it’s far from perfect.
The behavioral problems of AI robots have been bothering scientists for decades. Although AI robots do pretty well in things requiring high-level reasoning like math, they perform worse than a one-year-old child when it comes to simple tasks demanding abilities of sense, reflexes (本能反应) and mobility, among others.
As the team observed, the interaction between the arm and the base of Mobile Aloha would get quite complex if more flexibility is required in a task. Even a slight deviation (偏差) in the base settings might lead to significant drift in the arms’ motions, resulting in failure to complete the task.
32. What can be known about Mobile Aloha according to paragraph 2
A. It sells well among housewives. B. It can help one to do housework.
C. It was developed by IT scientists. D. It is badly needed by Internet users.
33. Why is Tony Zhao’s video about Mobile Aloha mentioned
A. To prove its online popularity. B. To display its powerful functions.
C. To show it needs further improvement. D. To suggest it should work under one’s help.
34. How can Mobile Aloha best complete a new task
A. By operating independently. B. By copying humans’ behavior.
C. By learning from previous tasks. D. By turning to programmers for help.
35. Which type of task may AI robots be poor at
A. Deep learning. B. Precise calculation.
C. Logical thinking. D. Behavioral flexibility.

Several years ago, I experienced daily severe headaches that made me want to bang my head against a brick wall. I was desperate to find a cure. 36
In my hopelessness, my father suggested acupuncture (针灸), a treatment he had experienced in Hong Kong. It had successfully relieved his lower back pain when other treatments and medicines had failed. With limited exposure to traditional Chinese medicine, I decided to give acupuncture a try.
With no particular expectations, I found myself in the office of a middle-aged woman, surrounded by Chinese herbal medicines. After explaining my issue, she placed 3 fingers on my wrist to feel my heartbeat. 37 Soon, she took out the needles, which made me somewhat uneasy as such objects typically make me uncomfortable.
38 To deal with my headaches, the treatment began on the back of my hand, far from my head. As the doctor gently handled the needles, I got the feeling that something was flowing throughout my entire body.
The doctor then continued to tap and move more needles across my body. The electricity was turned on, and the doctor left the room. 39 Around the 5-minute mark, the doctor returned and adjusted the electricity level. A moment later, before I knew it, she turned off the electricity and removed the needles, marking an end to the 20-minute process. She then gave me some herbal medicine to take for 5 days.
I returned to the doctor for a total of 10 sessions, and each time the same routine was repeated and the same herbal medicine was given. The true benefits of the acupuncture treatment became clear: I remained free of headaches for 2 years. 40 If you’ve experienced similar conditions, I highly recommend trying it.
A. At last, my efforts paid off.
B. I now strongly advocate acupuncture.
C. I was then guided to a room and told to lie down.
D. Despite trying different solutions, nothing worked.
E. My initial experience with acupuncture was quite surprising.
F. Though it may seem scary, the acupuncture cured my back pain.
G. Lying still, I could sense the electricity flowing throughout my body.

Every year on March 14, students around the world put down their textbooks and pick up slices of pie to celebrate a unique and delicious holiday-Pi(π) Day.
Thinking of the first 3 digits (数位) of pi(3.14), you can quickly work out 56 March 14 was chosen as the date for Pi Day. In 2019, UNESCO set the day as the International Day of Mathematics to celebrate the beauty of math and stress the essential role it plays in all aspects of our lives.
Pi Day was first celebrated in the US in 1988 at San Francisco’s Exploratorium, a museum of science and technology which 57 (encourage) visitors to be hands-on. During the first celebration, Exploratorium’s employees marched around one of the circular 58 (space) of the museum because pi is the rate of a circle’s circumference (周长) to its diameter.
As a celebration of the mathematical constant pi, Pi Day in China is to honor Zu Chongzhi (429-500 AD), a Chinese mathematician who calculated pi as being 59 3.1415926 and 3.1415927, a record in accuracy 60 was not surpassed for over 800 years.
Pi Day is celebrated in 61 (variety) ways across the world. In the US, schools usually hold activities related to pie, such as pie-eating contests or 62 (simple) throwing pies toward each other. “In Germany, the celebration of Pi Day takes on a cultural twist,” said a 15-year-old German girl. Schools inspire students 63 (express) their artistic side through pi-related art displays. These range from pi-inspired paintings to mathematical sculptures, training creativity within the field of mathematics. She even built a 3-dimensional cityscape with Lego for Pi Day, 64 (use) different colored blocks to represent each digit of pi.
So, this year’s Pi Day was no different. Pies 65 (eat) up and numbers rolled as students across the globe came together yet again to honor the charm of pi and math as a whole.

On a sunny early spring morning, Anna, together with her grandchildren Julie, Fred and Erik, was playing happily in the backyard. While playing, Anna said to the kids, “I am going to plant something in the garden. Who would like to help me ”
“What are you going to plant, Grandma ” asked Julie. “I like charming, bright-colored roses.”
“But I like lively, big, yellow sunflowers!” said Fred.
“Well, I’m going to plant some vegetables so that we can have fresh vegetables to eat when they are ready,” said Anna.
“How long does that take ” asked Erik. He liked vegetables sometimes, especially tomatoes.
“It will take several months before anything is ready to eat,” answered Anna. The kids were surprised.
“Several months Why would you do all that work and then have to wait so long ” asked Julie. “Why not just go to the store and buy them ”
“Patience, my sweeties! Don’t you know food always tastes best when you grow it yourself ” replied Anna. “And if all of you come to help, it won’t be too much work.”
“I’ll help you, Grandma,” offered Erik. He put down the basketball and went to look at the gardening tools Anna had laid out. “What should we do first ” Fred and Julie came over to have a look, too.
Firstly, Anna taught Erik how to use a trowel (小铲子) to dig rows of small holes for the seeds. Next, she showed Julie how to pour the seeds into each hole carefully. And then it was Fred’s job to cover up the holes with soil little by little. Finally, Julie wrote the vegetable names on sticks that Erik pushed into the ground. “This way we can remember which vegetable seeds we have planted,” said Anna.
After planting everything, the kids took turns in filling up the watering pot so that Anna could make the soil nice and wet for the seeds to start to grow.
“From now on, we just water them a little each day, and with some time and sunshine, we’ll have some delicious things to eat in the summer,” said Anna.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Every time the kids came to visit, they would dash into the garden as fast as possible. Eventually, Anna said, “It was about time for the first harvest.”

第一节作答示例:
Dear Leta,
Knowing you’re coming to China for a trip, I’d like to give you a warm welcome.
There’re many famous places of interest in China, among which the Palace Museum is most worth visiting. Located in the center of Beijing, it’s the classic example of Chinese palace architecture of the Ming and Qing dynasties. I strongly recommend you have a look at the entire palace area surrounded by tall walls, the great halls and the red and yellow colors representing royal power. It’s really the best place to learn about Chinese culture and history.
Hope you’ll like it!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节作答示例:
Every time the kids came to visit, they would dash into the garden as fast as possible. No doubt that they were eager to see how well the vegetables were growing. Then they took turns to water them. With Anna’s help, they learned how to remove weeds if necessary. With time going by, the plants were growing taller and stronger. Finally, when the kids noticed the vegetables flowering and producing fruits, their eyes were shining like diamonds. Not until then did they realize that Grandma was right – all they needed was patience.
Eventually, Anna said, “It was about time for the first harvest.” Hearing that, the kids all jumped into the air and cheers filled the whole garden. With baskets ready, they gathered some of the carrots, cabbages and tomatoes, which were turned into a delicious vegetable salad after an hour’s busy work. When Anna asked who would like to try the salad, the kids all responded excitedly, “Me!” Tasting the salad, they thought nothing could be more delicious, because it was they who grew these vegetables. They all learned that many hands make light work and patience really pays off.
