Here are some for you to taste.Prelude, by Katherine MansfieldPrelude is one of Katherine Mansfield's longest and finest short stories. Because Prelude is a modernist short story, the emphasis is on characters rather than plots. Mansfield is using the Burnells’ house-move, and the period when they are busy settling into their new home, as a situation to observe family, women and class. He, by Katherine Anne PorterKatherine Anne Porter (1890-1980) wrote just one novel and fewer than thirty short stories, yet she is regarded as an important twentieth-century American writer, with He among her most celebrated and critically praised works. An important theme of Porter’s work is the search for meaning in a modern and increasingly materialist world.Signs and Symbols, by Vladimir NabokovIt is a short story by the Russian-American author Vladimir Nabokov (1899-1977), originally published in the New Yorker in 1948. The story centers on an elderly married Russian couple who move to the United States; their son is suffering from paranoid delusions (妄想症) and has been limited to a care center. Signs and Symbols focuses on the couple’s attempt to visit their son and its result.Down at the Dinghy, by J. D.SalingerThis short story was originally published in 1949. It involves an adult speaking to a child. It is about a young boy who runs from home and goes down to the nearby lake, where he gets into a boat and refuses to speak to his mother. The story ends with the mother bonding with her son.21.What is special about Prelude A.It’s about scientific observation. B.It’s the longest of the four.C.It involves moving to a new place. D.It focuses more on figures than plots.22.What do we know about Katherine Anne Porter and Vladimir Nabokov A.They are contemporary writers. B.Their works center on critical thinking.C.They both seek for meaning in modern life. D.Their works were published in the New Yorker.23.Who are the target readers of the text A.Science fiction fans. B.Family-based short story lovers.C.Those who plan to be writers. D.People trying to have a family.BExploring the Grand Canyon is an exciting experience at any age. For more experienced adventurers, the iconic rim (边缘)-to-rim hike provides awe-inspiring views and unforgettable memories. For one man, it also means breaking a record. At 92 years old, Alfredo Aliaga has become the oldest person to complete the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim hike. The 24-mile trek (跋涉) is no easy job. Less than 1% of Grand Canyon visitors have completed it, and even park rangers (护林员) recommend training for at least a year before attempting to accomplish it. Aliaga, an experienced hiker who has crossed the Grand Canyon multiple times, prepared for it by walking for three hours every day around his home in Berlin.Aliaga first trekked the Grand Canyon alongside his wife, with whom he shared his love for hikes and nature. After she died from ALS in 2006, he once again returned to the Grand Canyon. Since then, he has returned to the Grand Canyon so many times to remember his wife. Before his latest attempt, his son-in-law, Jurgen Buchenau, made a Facebook post to look out for trekkers to help the family keep records of this history-making hike. “We’d love to document what we hope will be an awesome achievement. Alfredo last completed a R2R last year when he was 91 and has been hiking in the canyon five times in the last four years, so he’s going to be ready for this!”On October 15, after hiking for 21 hours split over two days, Aliaga completed this massive achievement. “Alfredo did it!” Jurgen wrote on Facebook. “At 4 p.m. this afternoon, he climbed out of the canyon at the Bright Angel trailhead, super satisfied and excited to have become the oldest person on record to have crossed the canyon rim to rim at age 92.”24.Why did Aliaga decide to do the rim-to-rim hike again A.To break a record. B.To challenge himself.C.To recall his mate. D.To become a celebrity.25.What did Jurgen Buchenau do for Aliaga A.He made a plan for the hike. B.He offered medical support.C.He helped Aliaga train for the hike. D.He asked other hikers for assistance.26.How did Aliaga feel after completing the rim-to-rim hike A.Proud. B.Confident. C.Surprised. D.Calm.27.What is the best title for the text A.Exploring the Grand Canyon B.Breaking a Record at 92C.An Adventurous Woman D.The Rim-to-rim HikeCA study following nearly 30,000 older adults for more than 10 years has found six key healthy lifestyle factors can significantly reduce memory loss and those adults engaging in between four and six of the healthy lifestyle behaviors could dramatically reduce their risks of developing dementia (痴呆), even when carrying genes that increase their risks of Alzheimer’s disease.“Six healthy lifestyle aspects were assessed: a healthy diet, regular physical exercise, active social contact, active cognitive (认知的) activity, never smoking, and never drinking alcohol,” the researchers explained in the new study. Participants were classified (分类) into the favorable group if they had four to six healthy lifestyle factors, into the average group for two to three factors, and into the unfavorable group for zero to one factor. The study found that people with four to six healthy habits had a much slower loss of memory than those with fewer healthy habits. People with these good habits were also much less likely to get dementia than those with one or no healthy habits. Those who had two or three good habits were 30% less likely to get dementia. The study didn’t figure out which of the six healthy habits is the best for stopping dementia or which combination is the best. However, the information did show that eating healthy seemed to help prevent memory loss the most, with brain exercise and regular physical exercise also very helpful.About 20% of the people in the study had a gene that makes Alzheimer’s disease more likely. Even so, having several good health habits helped slow down memory loss. This shows that changing how we live can really help.Even though each health habit helped in a different way, overall, the study found that people with more good health habits had much less memory loss than those with fewer good habits. This suggests that the choices we make in how we live can help protect our memory. The study adds to the evidence that we might be able to change our risk of memory loss.28.What were the groups categorized based on A.The participants’ age. B.What hobbies the participants got rid of.C.The healthy lifestyles the participants had. D.What the participants’ attitudes to factors were.29.What can we infer from paragraph 3 A.The favorable group was happier than the other two.B.More healthy lifestyles were of more benefit to health.C.Healthy habits had little impact on memory or dementia.D.People with a healthy diet wouldn’t suffer a loss of memory.30.Which plays the second greatest role in reducing memory loss A.A healthy diet. B.Active social contact.C.Active cognitive activities. D.Never drinking alcohol.31.What can be the best title for the text A.Healthy Lifestyles Slowing Memory Loss B.A Study Making A Great BreakthroughC.A Healthy Diet Being The Best Lifestyle D.Old Adults Suffering From Health ProblemsDI recently had a conversation with a friend who was feeling very upset about work. Why He thought his manager didn’t like him. He rarely heard much from his manager, and when his manager said something, it was about correcting some aspects of his work or giving him some constructive advice. Not surprisingly, given my friend’s understandably anxious view of these workplace dynamics (动态), he was afraid of his annual performance evaluation. He was worried that his boss might even tell him that he wasn’t needed anymore. Accordingly, he considered looking around for another job — not because he really wanted to, as he liked the kind of work he was doing, but because he suffered from the kind of management. The evaluation day came, and to his great surprise, rather than being harshly critical, his manager told him that he was doing a fine job and gave him a promotion. The sad truth is, this kind of phenomenon is by no means unusual in the workplace. One recent survey showed that nearly half of the employees have considered leaving a job “due to lack of recognition”. Another similar study found 46 percent of the employees left a job “because they felt unappreciated”.The good news is that, in this case, the damage was repaired before it was too late — before my friend was out the door and his company began the expensive and time-consuming process of hiring a new employee. But as the research noted above shows, workplace problems related to recognition and appreciation are as common as the office air we breathe. This conforms with my personal experience; during my decades of corporate management, I saw similar appreciation issues all the time. When a job isn’t done well, nobody deserves anything, of course. But when a job is done well, if you’re an employee, it’s entirely natural to expect at least a bit of appreciation. So if you’re a manager, it’s a good idea to show some. It’s that simple.32.What phenomenon does the author want to describe through his friend’s case A.Unclear rewards and punishments. B.Employee-management misunderstanding.C.Unfair promotion in the workplace. D.Fierce competition among new employees.33.What happened to the author’s friend in the end A.His company hired a new employee.B.He continued to work for the company.C.His company simplified the evaluation process.D.He repaired the relationship with his colleagues.34.What does the underlined phrase “conforms with” in the last paragraph mean A.Results from. B.Separates from.C.Agrees with. D.Contrasts with.35.What can be the best title for the text A.Defend employees’ rights. B.A friend’s unforgettable experience.C.Acknowledge employees’ work. D.Misunderstanding between employees.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。Michael Leviton grew up with a strict code of honesty — where truth meant not just avoiding lies. His family believed that it was important to reveal what was on your mind. If someone asked, “How are you ” the moral response was to say exactly how you were feeling and not brush the question off with a “fine” or “good.” 36 .The consequences of that kind of honesty, however, were often complicated outside the family home.In elementary school, teachers didn't know how to respond to him, Leviton recalled. They'd call him brave for not crying after a fall, but Leviton would accuse them of lying. “Usually, I found teachers would flee (迅速离开),” said Leviton. “There was no script for how to talk to a five-year-old who refuses to let them say he's brave.” 37 . Leviton would accuse his teachers of unfairly targeting black kids, but those same kids, while grateful he defended them, found his bluntness (直率) awkward.38 . If a potential employer asked him about his flaws, Leviton would spare no detail. He was incapable of creating a flattering (讨人喜欢的) portrayal of himself. “I'd be like, ‘I'm trying to get my first job here. I don't know what I'm gonna be doing in five years,'” he recalled. “They would just be like, ‘Okay! All right. Next question.'”Gradually, Leviton came to realize that constantly revealing his true feelings could have negative impacts. 39 . He began to reply “fine” when people asked him how he was doing. When he got into arguments, instead of asking for an apology, he'd try to pretend it didn't happen. “I had to just shut up about certain things and be nice and positive and grateful, even if I didn't feel that way.” 40 — with just a bit of polite lying and better timing with the truth.A.Today Leviton said that his life is betterB.Other children also found him hard to be aroundC.This would happen multiple times within the same weekD.Pretending you were happy when you weren't was a kind of lieE.As an adult, Leviton's complete honesty could ruin job interviewsF.He wanted someone honest and found his way of thinking refreshingG.He sought to become a little less honest and learn to hide his feelings第三部分语言知识运用(共两节,满分30分)第一节(共215小题;每小题1分,满分15分)阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项A、B、 C和D中, 选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。A young vlogger, adept at (擅于) sharing humor and sincerity, rises to fame, tackling various topics and empowering others along the way, Meng Wenjie reports.“I never expected the video to be so 41 until I clicked on it!” This 42 is frequently shared by viewers under Lahongsang’ videos. What should I do now ” Mary grumbled (抱怨), mostly to herself.“What’s that ” Her mother asked, opening a box and lifting out several pots. “Nothing,” Mary mumbled (嘟哝). The girl had been complaining about the move, but her parents had made the decision and were then too busy to listen to her complaints. The first few days at her new school hadn’t been easy, either. She found it hard to talk to people she didn’t know, and it seemed that the students hadn’t even noticed her. Mary sighed and got back to wash dishes. On the day of the grand opening, Mary’s parents were busy the whole day, welcoming customers into the restaurant, which was brightly decorated in gold and red. Even Mary was in a good mood as she rushed around, seating guests, handing out menus, and pouring glasses of water. This was a big day for her family. At one of the tables sat a family with two daughters who were about Mary’s age. As she filled their glasses, Mary realized the twins were in her class. Mary ducked her head down. Her long hair covered her face, and she turned away from the table.A few minutes later, Mary’s mother found her in the kitchen. “Honey, what are you doing back here We need you out front with the customers.”注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。Para. 1“Mom, I don’t want to be out there!”______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Para. 2Mary put a handful of cookies into a small plate and left the kitchen.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________英语试题参考答案:一.听力1.C 2.B 3.B 4.B 5.C 6.A 7.A 8.A 9.B 10.C11.A 12.B 13.A 14.C 15.B 16.B 17.C 18.B 19.A 20.C二.阅读理解21.D 22.A 23.B 24.C 25.D 26.A 27.B 28.C 29.B 30.C31.A 32.B 33.B 34.C 35.C 36.D 37.B 38.E 39.G 40.A三.完形填空41.A 42.C 43.D 44.B 45.A 46.C 47.B 48.D 49.C 50.C 51.B 52.A 53.A 54.D 55.B四.语法填空56.carrying 57.have survived 58.It 59.minutes 60.on 61.that 62.a 63.violently 64.saved 65.what五.书面表达66.Dear John,My future friend, how are you going Recently, I’m encountering some troublesome problems. Feeling Mary was in a bad mood, her mother asked her what was wrong in a soft voice. At that moment, Mary couldn’t help pouring out her troubles, “Without a friend, I’m isolated here.” Realizing she had ignored Mary’s feelings after the move, her mother held Mary in her arms, suggesting that she make new friends by taking action first. “Go and take them some cookies and say hello!” The instant Mary heard that, her eyes shone with a mixture of excitement and expectation.Mary put a handful of cookies into a small tray and left the kitchen. Nervous as she was, she plucked up courage to approach the table where the twins sat, placing the cookies down carefully. She bravely looked at the girls directly in the eyes, “Thanks so much for coming to our restaurant!” It was not until the twins looked up that they recognized her. The twins gave her a big hug. They offered to hang out with her and introduce her around to the other guys at school. “That would be awesome!”, Mary grinned.听力原文Text1:M: Do you still have that book I lent you, Mary W: It’s just here Mark. I’m still partway through reading it. Normally I read science fiction or love stories but this is fascinating!M: I’m glad you like it. I’m not a fan of horror fiction but I thought it was great.Text2:M: Oh, I always have difficulty in getting along with the employees.W: Just have a talk with them and treat them as good friends as we do. Make sure you don’t always remember you are the boss!Text3:M: How smart of you to book the tickets beforehand! Otherwise you’ll just have to wait for hours.W: But I just got a call from my sister and I have to cancel the movie tonight.Text4:M: I’m thinking of going to the gym this weekend, Mum.W: Shouldn’t you focus more on your schoolwork while I’m busy on the farm M: Well, you’re right.Text5:M: Have you seen my mobile phone, Mom I left it on the top of the fridge last night.W: I think it’s on the table by the front door.M: That’s yours, Mom.W: Oh… Well. Look! Yours is in my handbag! Sorry, I thought it was mine.Text6:M: What’s going on around here Why is everyone changing offices W: Well, there are a lot of changes in our factory this week. For one thing, Marta and Jim are leaving.M: Where are they going Did they get a higher position W: Marta’s going to the office in Atlanta. She is going to be in charge of the whole southern market.M: That sounds like a good position to her and she will have a higher salary. What about Jim W: He’s going to manage the plant in California.M: What about you Are you going to rise to a higher position W: Not yet, but I’m hoping I will.Text7:W: We care about quality here, not just about doing enough work to get by. When you work at Trader Joe’s, you’re more than an employee. You’re like family!M: In my family, we usually argue over things like whose turn it is to take out the trash. We also complain a lot when there’s no dessert. Is working here like that W: OK... Let me give you a better idea. Working here is like being in a family in some ways. You know how children get punished when they don’t clean their rooms, or when they go out with friends before they finish their homework M: Yes, I can relate to that.W: Well, that’s more like how it is to work at Trader Joe’s. The employees are the children ... and I’m the mother.M: Are you the only parent at this store I think I’d rather be adopted by someone else...Text8:W: Did you hear about the car accident on Summer Road this morning M: Yes, I did. I heard a report that said both of the drivers were taken to the hospital, and one needed surgery.W: Do you know the cause of the accident Was one of them speeding M: I don’t think so. Neither of the drivers were driving very fast. It was foggy this morning, so no one could see very far.W: Really That’s hard to believe. When I got up, it was sunny outside.M: When did you get up W: At 10:00 am.M: Why did you get up so late Did you go to bed late the night before W: Actually I went to sleep at 9:00 pm the night before. But something woke me up at 2:00 am and I didn’t fall asleep until two hours later.Text9:M: That was a really interesting article the tutor recommended about Ellen Ochoa for our science coursework, wasn’t it W: It certainly was. I used to dream of going into space when I was a kid. I found it particularly interesting to read about a spacewoman. There aren’t too many of those around.M: You’re right! I’m sure they are as able as men to deal with all the challenges of the job. Ellen was special. She overcame all the difficulties with her determination to do what she’d wanted to do ever since she was small.W: Absolutely. That’s why I admire her. The article also shows the requirements for becoming an astronaut. It’s not surprising that they want people who are good at sport and have corresponding flight experience. But I’ve never imagined that you need to have a graduate degree.M: Yes. To achieve our dream, we must try our best to be qualified enough. Anyway, living in space must be interesting.W: Yes. Imagine walking in space and having to work inside and outside the capsule when you’re weightless! That’s extraordinary. I think the most interesting thing would be having to get used to the living habits there and deal with all the unexpected problems that arise.Text10:I have been to many different types of weddings, and they are all memorable in their own way. But I can’t remember a better one than the wedding I attended in Northern Italy last summer. First of all, a little background: the wedding was for a good friend of mine I met in university in England. After graduation, we spent some time in France, where he met his lovely girl that he was going to marry. Two years later, I was riding up the narrow streets that led to his hometown in the mountains. The first difference I noticed was there was no traditional bachelor party. Instead, the family had a big dinner every day the week before the wedding. They made everything themselves, even on the wedding day. This is unlike American weddings, where it is typical to hire a company to do it. On the day of the wedding, there were two other non-American traditions I liked. One: there were no long, boring speeches! And two: the cutting of the bridegroom’s tie. I know it sounds like a joke, but it’s true! The family cuts the tie into little pieces, and then people bid on them to raise money for the happy couple! It was a lot of fun. It’s also fun to learn other people’s cultures and see them celebrate together. So, what is the most romantic wedding you have attended like 展开更多...... 收起↑ 资源列表 2024年春期高2023级高一期中考试英语试题.docx 2024年春期高2023级高一期中考试英语试题答案.docx 听力.mp3
