Do you have the experience of taking music lessons against your wishes Perhaps you have complained about it because you thought it took you much playtime. The Canadian study showed that after one year of musical training, children did better on a memory test than those who didn't take music lessons.
The researchers made the children aged between 4 and 6 into two groups-one group of children took music lessons outside school, and the other didn’t take any musical training. In one year, they took four tests in different times. The results showed brain development changes at least every four months.
The children taking music lessons not only did better in musical listening but also made faster progress in other ways, such as reading, writing, math and IQ.

When Oliver, 12, and Lily Grueser, 10, realized their school lessons would be moving online, they had a big decision to make: What part of their home would they let their classmates see over a webcam (网络摄像头) “Lily and I didn’t want people to see much of our house,” Oliver says. Finally, they decided to share a guest bedroom, where other students wouldn’t know if they’d made their beds.
As closed classrooms have given way to online lessons, many other students have to make the same decision like Oliver and Lily. For Leighann Hercules, the idea of 30 classmates seeing inside her home every day was not fun at first. She says, “I was kind of nervous.” To make herself more comfortable, she chose to set up her workstation in the corner of her bedroom so that only a small part of her room could be seen. “It’s also strange to randomly (随机地) see something and someone you never knew before,” she adds.
That includes teachers. Federico Lesmes, 15, has taken a ton of video lessons over the last few months. He says, “I have seen my teachers in pajamas (睡衣), sports clothes or strange T-shirts. That was an experience.”
After months of online lessons, all the students are feeling less nervous and more excited about what they’ve learned about their classmates. For Oliver, he has found out that he has more in common with other students than he realized. Lily has discovered that a lot of people have a larger family than she knew. And Leighann is getting to know more about her classmates’ sense of style (时尚感) since they no longer have to wear the uniforms. “You’re learning new things about people,” Federico says. “We’ve got a little closer.”
( )28.What did Oliver, Lily and Leighann have in common

D.made him realize the importance of family
( )30.To know how the students feel about taking online lessons now, you can read _______.
A.Paragraph 1 B.Paragraph 2
C.Paragraph 3 D.Paragraph 4
( )31. The writer develops the passage by _______.
A.listing numbers B.comparing facts
C.giving examples D.introducing study results

Do you know what you'd like to be when you grow up It takes most people many years to find this out. For the young artist Alexandra Nechita, it never really seemed to be a question. From the day she began drawing at the age of two, she was an artist.
Alexandra Nechita was born in Romania in 1985 and moved to California when she was still a baby. As a little child, she loved coloring in her coloring books. Her parents hoped she could spend more time playing with other children, so they took away her coloring books. Alexandra began drawing her own pictures and coloring them in.
By the time Alexandra was seven years old, she had begun painting with oil paints. When Alexandr took a local art class, her teacher was amazed the young artist’s unusual style of painting. Alexandra’s work was similar in some ways to the paintings by famous artists like Picasso. These artists did not use a realistic(现实主义的) style of painting. They allowed their imaginations to play an important part in their work. The interesting thing was that little Alexandra had never seen the work of these artists. People called her “Little Picasso”. This was a great honor, but Alexandra’s style of painting was all her own.
Alexandra’s first public show was held at Los Angeles public library when she was only eight years old. People were amazed at how young Alexandra was, but mostly they loved her imaginative (有想象力的) artwork. It did not take long for Alexandra and her work to become famous. She appeared on television programs and in newspapers and magazines all over the world. The sale of a single piece can earn the young artist thousands of dollars. But that is not why Alexandra creates artwork. She just cannot imagine doing anything else that would bring her such joy and satisfaction.
Today, Alexandra is a full-time artist. She also works to help support the arts in schools. Alexandra is a strong believer in the power of art as a tool of communication and a bridge to building peace throughout the world.

Some Changes in My Life
How time flies! It has been two years since I entered the middle school. I find that there have been two main changes in my life during the past two years.
First of all, I have become better at dealing with others. It used to be difficult for me to make new friends. Then I found out the reasons. Now, I have a lot of friends. Besides, I have become much more confident. In the past, I was worried that I couldn't do well in my lessons. However, with the help of my teachers and classmates, now I do well in all the subjects.
I like these changes. They have made my life better than before.
