When I was about 12, I had an enemy (敌人), a girl who liked to point out my shortcomings (缺点). Wee k by week her list grew: I was very thin, I wasn’t a good student, I talked too much, I was too proud, and so on. I tried to hear all this as long as I could. At last, I became very angry. I ran to my father with tears in my eyes.
He listened to me quietly, and then he asked, “Are the things she said true or not Janet, didn’t you ever wonder what you are really like Well, you now have that girl’s opinions. Go and make a list of everything she said and mark (标记) the points that are true. Pay no attention (注意力) to the other things she said. ”
I did as he told me. To my great surprise, I found that about half of the things were true. Some of them I couldn’t change (like being very thin), but a good number I could—and suddenly I wanted to change. For the first time I got a very clear picture of myself.
I brought the list back to Daddy. He refused to take it. “That’s just for you,” he said. “You know the truth about yourself better than anyone else. But you have to learn to listen, not just close your ears in anger and feel hurt. When something said about you is true, you’ll find it will be of help to you. Our world is full of people who think they know your responsibility. Don’t close your ears. Listen to what they think you should do or shouldn’t do. But hear the truth and do what you think is right.”

Now in hospital, we can not only see doctors , nurses and patients (病人), but also hospital helpers. Hospital helpers are new to many people. They can help people do a lot of things. For example, they can get appointments (预约) with a doctor and see the doctor with patients.
In these years, there are more and more hospital helpers in big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The number of old people is growing fast in these cities. Many of them don’t know how to get appointments with doctors online. And they often get lost in big hospitals when they go there. Also, their children may live far from them and can’t go to the hospital with them. So these old people have the need for hospital helpers. In fact, many young people also use helper service. And they’re usually more open and trusting.
With the help of experienced hospital helpers, patients can spend less time finishing medical examinations (健康检查). And thanks to hospital helpers, patients feel warm and relaxed.

I brought the list back to Daddy. He refused to take it. “That’s just for you,” he said. “You know the truth about yourself better than anyone else. But you have to learn to listen, not just close your ears in anger and feel hurt. When something said about you is true, you’ll find it will be of help to you.
