(1)get the main idea of each part through fast reading (scanning);
(2)understand the life, facts, problems and protection of pandas through detailing reading (skimming);
(3)raise their awareness of protecting pandas though the volunteering program.

While-reading (scanning) Activity 1 Read and answer Students are led to look though the whole passage quickly and choose the kind of the text. Activity 2 Read and match Students are led to go through the passage and divide it into three parts and match the main idea of each part. While-reading (skimming) Activity 1 Read and find Students are invited to read the paragraph 1 and 2, find the activities of baby pandas and pandas keeper, and how panda keepers take care of pandas. Activity 2 Read and underline Students are led to read paragraph 3 and figure out the writing skill and the meaning of the numbers. Activity 3 Read and find Students are led to read paragraph 3 and find out the reasons why the number of pandas is getting smaller. Activity 3 Read and find Students are invited to read part 3 and find out how many groups of people are mentioned and how they protect pandas. To help students understand the type of the text. To lead students to understand the main ides of each part. To lead students to understand the daily life of pandas and work of panda keepers at the base. To help students understand writing skill of this part and think about the meaning beyond the numbers. To help students think about the human causes and natural causes of the problem. Pandas are no longer endangered animals!
Thanks to efforts by the education program, the government and scientists and others. Now there are 2537 pandas all over the world. And there are 673 pandas living in zoos or reseach centers in China and in other countries. What’s more, over 1800 pandas live in the wild.
