Activity 2: Watch a video Students are invited to watch a short video about Mei Yan and talk about what they have learned about her. Activity 3: Brainstorm Students are invited to think what they need to know in order to be the volunteers at the base. To help students review what they have learned about today’s topic—pandas. To arouse students’ interests in Chengdu Research Basa and panda keepers. To help students’ think about the things they need to learn. Students can talk about the color, weight, height and behavior about pandas. Students can understand the main content of the video. While-reading (scanning) Activity 1 Read and answer Students are led to look though the whole passage quickly and choose the kind of the text. Activity 2 Read and match Students are led to go through the passage and divide it into three parts and match the main idea of each part. While-reading (skimming) Activity 1 Read and find Students are invited to read the paragraph 1 and 2, find the activities of baby pandas and pandas keeper, and how panda keepers take care of pandas. Activity 2 Read and underline Students are led to read paragraph 3 and figure out the writing skill and the meaning of the numbers. Activity 3 Read and find Students are led to read paragraph 3 and find out the reasons why the number of pandas is getting smaller. Activity 3 Read and find Students are invited to read part 3 and find out how many groups of people are mentioned and how they protect pandas. To help students understand the type of the text. To help students understand writing skill of this part and think about the meaning beyond the numbers. To help students think about the human causes and natural causes of the problem. Students can clearly describe the activities and the work with key words. Students can correctly choose the writing skill and circle the meaning of each numbers. Students can clearly talk about the four reasons from paragraph 3.
