How to yum cha in Hong Kong
For Hong Kongers, a quality restaurant could become a family haunt that’s visited for generations to come. Here are some of the best places for chowing down on these steam-basket goodies.
Forum
Founded by a legendary abalone (鲍鱼) master, this three Michelin-star restaurant serves classic Cantonese dim sum with an attention to detail that can only be described as impeccable (无瑕疵的). If you want to know what perfect dim sum tastes like, head to Forum.
Sun Hing
As the chefs begin kneading (捏) dough and wrapping buns in the middle of the night, neighbors slowly fill the seats and wait for its freshly made dumplings and stir-fried milk puffs. There is no menu or ordering sheet here. Diners choose their dim sum from the display towers located at the counter.
Golden Valley
Golden Valley offers two styles of Chinese cuisine — Cantonese and Sichuanese — on one dim sum menu. Golden Valley’s dumplings are a refreshing and sumptuous (豪华的) pocket of shrimp, mushrooms, pork and water chestnuts, while its Sichuanese dan dan noodles are flavorfully spicy.
Veggie Kingdom
Veggie Kingdom boasts a pretty impressive meatless dim sum experience that even non-vegetarians wouldn’t feel lacking. Besides “wow” and “great”, what else would you say when flying over the Earth in space Samantha Cristoforetti, the first Italian female astronaut in space, posted several lines of a famous ancient Chinese composition on Twitter to share her joy.
She first wrote in Chinese, and then attached an accurate translation of the lines in both Italian and English to help more people understand. “Looking up, I see the immensity of the cosmos; bowing my head, I look at the multitude of the world. The gaze flies, the heart expands, the joy of the senses can reach its peak, and indeed, this is true happiness,” it says. Two days before she landed on Earth, the beauty of space and Chinese literature resonated on her Twitter account. Before long, her posts went viral on Twitter with thousands of retweets, likes and replies.
The text she quoted is from the Preface to Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion,a Chinese calligraphy masterpiece by Wang Xizhi (303-361) of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420). She also attached three photos taken in space of China’s Bohai Bay and the day-night view of Beijing. “The poem and views are both magnificent as well as healing. If everyone could enjoy the same sight, a lot of pain in the world would be ‘dissipated’,” one user comments.
As the first Italian female astronaut in space, Cristoforetti carried out her first space mission on Nov 23, 2014. In 2022, she started the second mission in April and returned to Earth on Friday night after a 127-day stay in orbit.
Cristoforetti has also been active in Sino-European cooperation in the field of manned spaceflight. She was a working group member with Chinese counterparts to define and implement cooperation in the field of astronaut operations. When not traveling for work, she is an eager reader and has a great passion for languages. Speaking clear Chinese, Cristoforetti once told the media that the teams from China and Europe were working very well together in the field of astronaut training.

It’s commonly acknowledged that our lives are ruled by algorithms (算法), but have we really collectively understood how they have transformed our culture and personality
In Filterworld: How algorithms flattened culture, Kyle Chayka argues convincingly that the rise of algorithm-driven feeds, used everywhere online from Instagram to Spotify, has led to a more uniform culture. Our tastes and desires increasingly don’t belong to us, but to algorithms that are designed to keep people engaged at all costs. If the collection of our tastes truly shapes our entire personality, then this loss is more psychologically damaging than it first appears. Aimlessly scrolling (滚屏) through Netflix or TikTok may seem harmless, but over days, months or years, we lose touch with what we like and enjoy.
Taste-making algorithms are inescapable. Chayka shows this by working through all corners of life: what we wear(TikTok), where we eat(Google Maps), music we listen to(Spotify), even who we date or marry(Tinder). This universe of algorithm-driven decisions has society-wide implications: “It extends to influence our physical spaces, our cities, and the routes we move through…flattening them in turn.” No one gets out of the Filterworld untouched.
If you’re lucky enough not to need any sort of algorithm-based system for your work, then you have the option to step back from algorithms for a while. But if your friend suggests a film recommended on X/Twitter or you feel the need to buy those shoes suddenly everyone has started wearing after social media advertisements, what are you to do It all feels fruitless.
This Filterworld may be inescapable, but there is hope. You can start by engaging more with the media you do choose to consume. This could mean reading up about a film you watched or paying artists you like directly. Even the thoughtful act of recommending an album (专辑) to a friend is more rewarding than a random TikTok feed. As Chayka says, resistance to algorithms “requires an act of willpower, a choice to move through the world in a different way.”
18. What is Kyle Chayka’s opinion on algorithms
A. They improve our tastes. B. They make our culture more alike.
C. They help to identify our personality. D. They contribute to psychological problems.
19. What does the underlined part in paragraph 3 refer to
A. The society with advanced technology. B. The world without social media platforms.
C. The network of algorithm-driven decisions. D. The community free from algorithmic influence.
20. Which of the following is a way to resist the impact of algorithms
A. Limiting the use of social media platforms. B. Making choices based on friends’ suggestions.
C. Getting more involved with the selected media. D. Disconnecting from social media advertisements.
21. What is the best title for the text
A. Algorithms: Cultural Takeover B. The Secret of Algorithms
C. Social Media: Cultural Messenger D. The Rise of Digital Platforms

Schumpeter is only an amateur stargazer(天文爱好者). His equipment is no fancier than a pair of eyes and a place in the countryside, away from London’s light pollution. That is enough to make out Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn-and, occasionally, the International Space Station crossing the sky. In the past few years a new spectacle has appeared in the form of the Starlink satellites. Launched by SpaceX, they look like nothing else in the heavens, floating like a train of white dots in tight formation.
SpaceX is a remarkable firm founded to further Mr Musk’s dream of colonizing Mars. Its rockets cost half as much as its rivals’ do, thanks in part to their ability to land their first stages for reuse rather than dumping them in the sea in line with standard industry practice.
SpaceX’s rocket business alone does not justify this rich valuation. The market for launches is small and stagnant (不景气的). This is where Starlink comes in. Those satellites are the lead of a planned constellation1(发射计划)of over1, 000, designed to beam (传输)the Internet to every corner of the globe.
Satellite broadband is not a new idea. But existing options are expensive and slow. Starlink’s cheap, mass-produced, low-flying satellites would, SpaceX claims, offer a service comparable to earthly broadband at competitive prices.
Starlink’s chief competitor is OneWeb, with 74 satellites in orbit and hundreds more planned. It, too, went bust in March, after failing to persuade SonMasayoshi, a Japanese billionaire, to invest more cash. But it has new sponsors. On July 3rd Boris Johnson, Britain’s prime minister, announced that his government had stumped up S500m for a 45% stake in OneWeb, and a golden share giving it control over its future. Bharti Global, an Indian telecoms firm, also put in S500m.
OneWeb may need more cash if it is to complete its constellation. British taxpayers may never see a financial return on their investment. But if OneWeb keeps Mr Musk on his toes even for a little while, their loss may turn out to be global consumers’ gain. Stranger things have happened in space.
22. What is the function of Paragraph 1
A. To show respect for amateur stargazers.
B. To draw readers’ attention to light pollution.
C. To introduce the topic of Starlink satellites.
D. To give an example of observing stars.
23. What is the reason for the emergence of Starlink
A. The rocket launch market is small and depressed.
B. SpaceX’s rockets can be recycled in the first stage of launch.
C. The rocket cost of SpaceX is only half that of its competitors.
D. Starlink can provide services comparable to earthly broadband at competitive prices.
24. How did OneWeb maintain its economy
A. It built 74 in-orbit satellites and planned hundreds of them.
B. It persuaded SonMasayoshi to invest more money.
C. Boris Johnson’s government and an Indian company invested a total of S1 billion.
D. The continuous competition between OneWeb and SpaceX brought it benefits.
25. From the last paragraph, we can infer that
A. OneWeb’s financial losses may turn out to be global consumers’ gain
B. the battle between OneWeb and SpaceX may benefit global consumers
C. Mr Musk may step on global consumers’ toes when he achieves success
D. OneWeb no longer needs financial support from British taxpayers

It’s commonly acknowledged that our lives are ruled by algorithms (算法) but have we really collectively understood how they have transformed our culture and personality

D The continuous competition between OneWeb and SpaceX brought it benefits.
【答案】22. C 23. A 24. C 25. B

【23题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段的“The market for launches is small and stagnant (不景气的). This is where Starlink comes in. (发射市场规模小且停滞不前。这就是Starlink出现的原因)”可知,Starlink的出现是因为火箭发射市场小且不景气。故选A。
【24题详解】
细节理解题。根据倒数第二段的“But it has new sponsors. On July 3rd Boris Johnson, Britain’s prime minister, announced that his government had stumped up S500m for a 45% stake in OneWeb, and a golden share giving it control over its future. Bharti Global, an Indian telecoms firm, also put in S500m.(但它有了新的赞助商。7月3日,英国首相Boris Johnson宣布,他的政府已出资5亿英镑收购OneWeb 45%的股份,以及一份黄金股,使其能够控制该公司的未来。印度电信公司Bharti Global也投入了5亿卢比)”可知,OneWeb通过Boris Johnson政府和印度电信公司投入的10美元来维持它的经济。故选C。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“OneWeb may need more cash if it is to complete its constellation. British taxpayers may never see a financial return on their investment. But if OneWeb keeps Mr Musk on his toes even for a little while, their loss may turn out to be global consumers’ gain. (OneWeb若要完成其星座,可能需要更多资金。英国纳税人的投资可能永远不会有经济回报。但如果OneWeb让马斯克先生保持警惕,哪怕是一段时间,他们的损失可能会变成全球消费者的收益)”推知,OneWeb和SpaceX之间的竞争会让全球的消费者收益。故选B。

【答案】Good morning, everyone. I’m Li Hua, chairman of the Student Union. It is an honor to welcome you to our school as we celebrate the Space Day of China. I’m here to introduce Liu Yang, a Chinese female astronaut to you.
Born in Henan Province on October 6, 1978, Liu Yang is an outstanding woman dedicated to space exploration. In 2012, she became the first Chinese female astronaut to go to space. Two years later, she was admitted to Tsinghua University, where she obtained a doctor’s degree in law. In 2022, the space heroine lifted off again on the Shenzhou-14 Spaceship, undertaking new missions to construct a space station. Busy as she is, she is a lifelong learner who develops excellent skills in speeches and cooking.
Liu Yang has always impressed me with her perseverance and passion. Despite physical challenges as a woman, she overcame hardships in training with resilience and determination. She is a role model inspiring me to pursue my dream and make contribution to our country.
I hope my introduction will be helpful to you and look forward to exchanging ideas with you. Thank you!
