“On the very first day of 2024, I saw the snows of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa,” said Xu Zhuoyuan, a 17-year-old mountaineer from Hunan.
Xu climbed the tallest peak (山峰) in Africa on Jan 1. She even stood on top of Mount Qomolangma last May, making her the youngest Chinese girl to climb to the world’s highest peak from the southern slope.
Xu’s mountaineering journey began on a family trip to Xizang and Sichuan four years ago. Passing by Mount Siguniang in Sichuan, she felt drawn (吸引) to its beauty and climbed it. She fell in love with mountaineering right then and there. For the next few years, Xu did hard training.
She climbed peaks over 5,000 meters in Yunnan and Sichuan every month. She also did daily physical exercises like running, swimming and rope skipping. All that hard work got her ready for the big challenges she would face on Kilimanjaro.
Above 4000 meters on Mount Kilimanjaro, the weather is similar to a desert, with big temperature differences. During her seven-day climb, Xu faced unpredictable weather such as rain and strong winds. Staying warm and avoiding heat loss were very important. Xu had to keep an eye on the temperature and change her clothes when the temperature changed.
This climb was also a learning experience for Xu. She was climbing with Xia Boyu, the first Chinese climber to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma with a prosthetic (假肢的) leg. “Every time I felt like giving up, just seeing Xia was enough to encourage me. He was almost 74 years old, but was still pushing on although he had bloodied legs from his prosthesis,” Xu said.
Looking ahead, Xu has set great goals for herself. She plans to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents (大陆) and visit the North and South Poles by the time she’s 18.
34. What made Xu fall in love with mountaineering
A. Her father’s love for mountaineering. B. A trip to Mount Siguniang in Sichuan.
C. The first Chinese climber Xia’s story. D. Her interest in Mount Qomolangma.
35. What is the main challenge for Xu in climbing Kilimanjaro
A. The weather. B. An accident. C. Food problems. D. Thick clouds.
36. Which word can best describe Xu Zhuoyuan
A. Honest. B. Helpful. C. Brave. D. Shy.
37. What’s the best title for the passage
A. Xia Boyu Tops Mount Qomolangma B. Highest Mountains Around the World

She plans to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents (大陆) and visit the North and South Poles by the time she’s 18.”可知,全文介绍了一个勇敢的中国女孩继续攀登最高峰的故事,所以选项D. A wooly (羊毛的) coat and a head of human hair have more in common than you might think. Both include keratin fibers (角蛋白纤维) and both provide warmth. A European company, Human Material Loop, is now questioning why one is worn and the other is wasted. They want to change the clothing industry by turning human hair into a fabric (织物).
Every year, Europeans produce 72 million kilograms of human hair waste. When hair waste breaks down in a rubbish bag, it gives off greenhouse gases (气体). Many countries burn this waste, but that’s not environmentally friendly, either.
Zsofia Kollar, who started Human Material Loop, explains that using the hair fabric is not that different from using any other material. Short and broken hairs are made into fabric and colored. Human Material Loop’s first product was a sweater. It had a wool-like feel. The company has also made an outdoor coat and shown its ability to keep the wearer warm. These clothes are not for sale, though. The company’s purpose is to get the attention of clothing companies. It hopes that one day they will buy its hair fabric to make their own clothes.
Kollar understands that most people aren’t ready to wear human hair on their bodies. They may find the idea strange. But historically, Kollar points out, human hair has been used as a fabric in many cultures. In the 13th century, for example, people in what is now the southwestern United States used human hair to make socks. “There is much work to do to get people to accept hair fabric,” Kollar says. “But I can see it coming more and more into our daily lives, over time.”
38. What do a wooly coat and human hair have in common
A. They both have keratin fibers. B. They are both cheap and useful.
C. They can both keep people cool. D. They are both good for environment.
39. What does the underlined word “it” refer to in paragraph 2
A. The fabric. B. The hair waste. C. The wooly coat. D. The rubbish bag.
40. What can we learn from paragraphs 3 and 4
A. Using human hair fabric is very different from using others.
B. The sweater made of hair by Human Material Loop sells well.
C. Most people think it smart to wear human hair on their body.
D. Human hair was used as a fabric hundreds of years ago.
41. How might Kollar feel about the future of hair fabric
A. Worried. B. Bored. C. Hopeful. D. Uncertain.
【答案】38. A39. B40. D41. C

根据第四段“But historically, Kollar points out, human hair has been used as a fabric in many cultures. In the 13th century, for example, people in what is now the southwestern United States used human hair to make socks.”可知,从历史上看,人类的头发在许多文化中都被用作织物。例如,在13世纪,现在美国西南部的人们用人的头发做袜子,所以D项表述正确。故选D。
【41题】
观点态度题。根据文章最后一段“‘There is much work to do to get people to accept hair fabric’ Kollar says. ‘But I can see it coming more and more into our daily lives, over time’.”可知,Kollar对头发织物的未来充满了希望。故选C。

①The other day, I was waiting for a train—angrily. The train was late, which meant I would be late to meet a friend at the theater. Like many people, I hate being late. However, I often find myself running late. What’s the problem Michaela Thomas, a psychology (心理学) expert, says I’m a “time optimist”. “Time optimists” often wrongly predict how long something will take. As a result, they are often late for meetings or rush things at the last minute.
②“Time optimists” usually get into trouble. Their lateness makes people around them angry, and they go through a lot of stress themselves. How can they fix their ways
③Grace Pacie has written a book about “time optimists”. In the book she says, “Time optimists usually plan to be on time, not ahead of time.” So she suggests they should create a pre-event deadline (截止时间). For example, if your dancing class starts at 8 p. m., tell yourself to arrive at 7:30 p. m.. She says, “It’s important to leave time for things to go wrong. Not all the lights are going to be green.”
④But Fuschia Sirois, a psychologist, says that the problem of “time optimists” is not only about their time management, but also about their poor feeling management. Sometimes, people have too much going on with their work and family, and they often go for the easy fix—to procrastinate (拖延). Sirois suggests having a better understanding of your future self. For example, you are up against a deadline, but you are feeling tired and want to put off the task. Ask yourself, “Will I magically be energetic on the second day If I can’t really do it all tomorrow, why not start doing it today ” In fact, that future you will probably feel even more stressed about the task when it’s late.

Above 4,000 meters on Mount Kilimanjaro, the weather is similar to a desert, with big temperature differences.

A. Worried. B. Bored. C. Hopeful. D. Uncertain.

In the book, she says, “Time optimists usually plan to be on time, not ahead of time.” So she suggests they should create a pre-event deadline (截止时间).

A. show the bad traffic in Europe B. explain the reason for his lateness

A. always exactly tell how long something will take
B. often miss a train because of unexpected things
C. usually arrive a bit early to meet their friends
D. seldom wait for the last minute to get things done
44. According to the passage, which are the ways to solve the problem of lateness
a. setting a pre-event deadlineb. putting off the tasks
c. knowing better about your future selfd. planning to be on time
A. ac B. bc C. ad D. bd
45. Which of the following best shows the structure of the text
