教材分析 本堂课是阅读课，标题是Birthday Food around the world，讲的是世界各地（主要是中国和英国）过生日时的饮食习惯。文章结构清晰，为“总-分-总”结构，通过学习世界各地不同的生日习俗，能够培养学生中西方跨文化的交际意识。
教学目标 By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: 1. 语言能力： Correctly understand and master new vocabulary and expressions in the context and master the key sentence patterns. 2. 文化意识： Learn the different birthday food traditions all over the world. Understand cultural differences between different nations. 3. 思维品质： Through the construction of mind maps, analysis and other activities, accurately obtain key information and improve the ability to understand the discourse, improve the logic and criticality of thinking, and realize the transfer of thinking ability. 4. 学习能力： Enhance reading comprehension skills by learning reading strategies through pre-reading prediction. Maintain an interest in learning English and consciously train your English thinking.
教学重难点 Teaching important points: Master key vocabulary and sentence patterns. Predicted parts of difficult points: 1. Learn to understand 2b and the tradition of birthday in different countries; 2. Through reading short passages, how to use the sentence patterns and sentence patterns learned in this unit to improve students' comprehensive English proficiency.

教学步骤
Lead in (3’)
Step 1 Play a guessing game. Ss listen to the music and guess some special days.
Pre-reading (4’)
Step 2 T asks the Ss how they celebrate their birthday and ask Ss to answer. Then T can lead in some important phrases: have a birthday party; sing the birthday song; get birthday gifts; make a wish; blow out the candles......
Step 3 T asks Ss to look at the picture and guess what the girl is doing and how old the girl is. Then Ss look at the title and the picture carefully and guess what this passage is talking about. Prediction can give Ss an interesting knowledge input.
While-reading (20’)
Step 4 T asks students to scan the passage and match the paragraphs with their main ideas. At the same time, T gives Ss the reading tip: pay attention to the first or the last sentence of each paragraph. Then T leads Ss to find out the structure of this article.
Step 5 T asks students to read passage 2 and finish the first mind-map. After checking the answer of the first mind-map, T tells Ss the reason why people in foreign countries eat birthday cakes on their birthday.
Step 6 T asks students to read passage 3 and finish the second mind-map.
Step 7 T gives three statements to Ss and asks them to decide whether they are true or false to check their understanding of paragraph 3.
Step 8 T plays a video to explain why Chinese people have long noodles on their birthdays. T also explains the tradition of eating eggs on birthdays.
Step 9 Work on the last paragraph. T asks Ss the writer’s opinion about birthday foods. T teaches Ss to show their gratitude to their parents on their birthdays.
Post-reading (10’)
Step 10 T asks Ss to work in groups to read another article and give a report. After discussing, T invites three Ss to give their reports.
Conclusion (1’)
Step 11 T concludes that in the same world we have different culture. Maybe the food is different, the love is the same. We should respect different culture and show our love to the people around us.
Homework (2’) For all: introduce different birthday foods to your parents. For some: find out the meaning of different foods (at least 5 different countries)
