Ss listen to the music and guess some special days.Pre-reading (4’)Step 2 T asks the Ss how they celebrate their birthday and ask Ss to answer. Then T can lead in some important phrases: have a birthday party; sing the birthday song; get birthday gifts; make a wish; blow out the candles......Step 3 T asks Ss to look at the picture and guess what the girl is doing and how old the girl is. Then Ss look at the title and the picture carefully and guess what this passage is talking about. Prediction can give Ss an interesting knowledge input.While-reading (20’)Step 4 T asks students to scan the passage and match the paragraphs with their main ideas. At the same time, T gives Ss the reading tip: pay attention to the first or the last sentence of each paragraph. Then T leads Ss to find out the structure of this article.Step 5 T asks students to read passage 2 and finish the first mind-map.
